Great idea Tom; to use the cinderblocks as a final filter. This is the method used in many 3rd world countries to filter non-potable water for drinking; using porous stone pots. I love it! Simple & effective! I have read that bog filters are the most effective filters for very large ponds too.  It is Natures Way! I will definitely file this idea for future use. Thank you so much for sharing your ideas. James.

"It's in gravel with no soil in the top of the skippy.  It gets alot of water/air movement as there is an air stone a foot or more below it. "

All this ponding & water gardening plumbing is new to me so this may seem a simple Q to you. So, how did you put gravel in the top of a skippy filter? How deep is the gravel? Do you have pics? Have you ever heard of anyone using scrubbies instead of the pads in the skippy?

Thank you. James
