Chit Chat / Re: Restaurant food reviews....
« on: March 06, 2012, 08:18:39 AM »
I actually saw an episode of "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" where he went to a Mexican restaurant that was located inside of a gas station. The place was packed all the time and the locals raved about how good the food was!!  8-)~ He said it was pretty good too!! Very authentic!!

I'm betting that if everyone sat in those chairs along that rail the Susie Mac would do a Costa Concordia.......

Too funny, Mikey!! Lol   :D  ;D

We saw a 5 1/2 foot cat last night in a restaurant!! Does that count?! We went out to eat for Valentine's Day and there was this guy (actually that was up for debate between me and my hubby! LOL) dressed in a black shirt, black pants, black boots, a long black duster coat, black cat ears and a black tail!!  ::)  lol  {:-P;;

I googled it too!!  {:-P;; I still had to look for quite a while after that to find it!!  ::) But now that I have found it, it's very obvious every time I look at the picture!!  :D

OK, it's time to hear from "the Mom"!!! She's been doing really good with her driving. She has been very careful to watch her speed and obey the laws.   {-)  Like she said, she doesn't want to get her license taken away so soon after getting it. She just got her parking permit for school so tomorrow will be her first day to drive to and from school.

Now, let's address all of those "I did" stories...do we NEED to give her so many ideas?! LOL  ::)

The thing that gets me is there is an exotic animal place in Zanesville called "The Wilds". They were on site helping with the search. If the guy knew he was done with his own life why didn't he at least spare the animals' lives and call either The Wilds or The Columbus Zoo and ask them if they would take them. Maybe they would, maybe they wouldn't, who knows? But if they didn't I'm sure they would have helped him find a home for them. Especially given the fact he had 18 endangered Bengal tigers.

Sara,
I am so sorry for your loss. My daughter (RAM) talked to Scott on the chat alot. She really thought alot of him and was very sad to hear of his sudden loss. He got her to have an interest in ponding. He would question her about ponds and pond plants. He would "quiz" her on chat. If she didn't know the answer she would google for the answer! I don't know if he knew she was doing that or not! But he got her interested in ponding! I'm sure he would be pleased to know that.

I'm not a big football fan but I thought it might be fun to take poll to see if there are more Packers or Steelers fans on the forum.

Thanks for posting the link, Karen! O0 Isn't it amazing?! She has one of the most beautiful voices to come along in recent years. And to think we have American Idol to thank for that amazing talent!!! I have a feeling she would have eventually made it big with or without Idol.

I have a new favorite version of "Oh Holy Night" - I heard Carrie Underwood yesterday and it brought me to tears. It is absolutely amazing!! The DJ said when God sent Carrie to this earth He said I will send you to earth for the sole purpose of recording this song!!! It's THAT good!!!!!

I don't think I've heard it. John Berry does a nice version of it. He was just here doing his annual Christmas concert. I tell myself every year I will go and every year I don't for some reason or another!

My Mom's is "Oh Holy Night". She is battling Alzheimer's right now and I just feel like I should post that for her. She has always loved that song. Doesn't matter who sings it as long as they sing it well.

« on: November 15, 2010, 09:15:23 AM »
Thanks for the replies, guys!! I know my girls feel that way most of the time, Greg, but I know there are days they probably don't! They are 15 and 11 so they are in those rocky teen and pre-teen years!!! We all remember what an emotional time that was!!!!

I like what you said too, Jerry!! I may have to use that!!!

Both of my girls were adopted, one was 2 days old and the other 4 days old. They are biological half sisters. They are so fortunate to be together!! Their birthmother placed the oldest one with us and then when she was pregnant again 4 years later called the agency and requested to place with us again. She was our "surprise" child!!!!

When I told my daughter November was National Adoption Awareness Month she said "I didn't know we had a month" so I thought it was best to spread the word!!!!

Chit Chat / November is National Adoption Awareness Month
« on: November 12, 2010, 09:09:04 AM »
November is “National Adoption Awareness Month” so I thought I would pass along a couple of my favorite adoption poems to honor that. They are near and dear to my heart especially the first one. I hope you enjoy them and can read them without crying – because I can’t!!!!

The Gift of You

I didn't give you the gift of life
but in my heart I know
the love I feel is as deep & real
as if it had been so.

For us to have each other
is like a dream come true.
No, I didn't give you the gift of life
Life gave me the gift of you.

The Answer (to an adopted child) aka The Adoption Creed

Not flesh of my flesh
Nor bone of my bone,
But still miraculously
My own.
Never forget
For a single minute:
You didn't grow under my heart
But in it.

I will, Esther. This is the one I always use. It's a little late for Christmas, though!!!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix

1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 c all purpose flour
1/4 c sugar
1/4 c brown sugar
1 c chocolate chips
1/2 c brown sugar
1/4 c sugar
1 c all purpose flour

Layer the ingredients in the order given into a wide-mouth 1 quart canning jar. Pack each layer in place before adding the next ingredient.

Attach a gift tag with the mixing and baking directions as follows:

Chocolate Chip Cookies

Makes 3 to 4 dozen cookies

1 jar Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix
3/4 c butter or margarine, softened
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1/2 tsp vanilla

Preheat the oven to 375 F. In a large bowl, cream the butter, eggs and vanilla. Add the Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix and stir until the mixture is well blended. Drop by rounded tablespoonsfulls onto greased cookie sheet. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. Transfer to wire racks to cool.

I always cut a piece of fabric about the size of a salad plate. I use it as a pattern. Then I put it under the ring and on top of the little metal piece. Then screw the metal ring on to hold the fabric in place. I print the recipe out on card stock with a nice font in red & green with a clip art of holly or a snowman or something matching the fabric. I hole punch a hole in the card, slip a ribbon through it and then tie it around the jar at the metal ring holding the recipe in place. Makes a very pretty gift and the teachers that I have given it to have all said it's very tasty. Either it's a good recipe or they're just all being polite!!!

I've done cookie in a jar recipes for my kids' teacher gifts for the last several years. I always gave it with a dish towel or hot pad. This is probably the last year, though. This is my youngest daughter's last year of elementary school.  :'(  It's on to middle school next year. I'm sad to see her move on to the next grade level but I'm glad for one thing, no more cookie in a jar!!!  @O@

Something tells me if I locked my hubby in the trunk of the car for 15 minutes he'd be pretty ticked when I let him out!!! No, I guess I wouldn't be letting him out. He knows enough about cars he'd be out before the 15 minutes were up and he'd be pretty steamed!!! But I hope the dog would be happy to see me, even if she is a Daddy's girl!!!

ram, you are more likely to be able to eat cups than to be able to turn into a werewolf?! Or explode in the sun?! You CAN make them of sugar!!!! Maybe that will be our weekend project?!!!!!  @O@

4 days 11 hours 21 minutes here. But to be fair part of that belongs to ram. She used to "assume my identity" when she didn't have one of her own to play the games.

I was telling ram that I heard one of the actors interviewed on the radio. He said the second and third movies were filmed almost back to back. The reason - vampires aren't supposed to age!!!  ::)

You see, ram and I go round and round about this series. I try to apply logic to it and she gets SO mad at me!!!! Just the other day she threw my favorite movie of all time into the mix - "Like Willie Wonka is SO logical!!!!" It was SO funny!!!! I LOVE to get her going!!!!!

Oh, and about Willie Wonka  -IT COULD HAPPEN!!!!  lol  @O@  :D
