Pond Chat / ? on dividing water lilies
« on: September 17, 2007, 07:43:38 PM »
I was in the pond this weekend pinching off pads and ferterlizing the water lilies.  Was looking at what lilies that needed to be dividing.  I think it will be easier to divide this fall instead of in the spring.  Would you divide a lily when it is still blooming or wait. And, I think I have read you need to wait until the lily is at least a year old before dividing.  I have a number of lilies that I received late last year but it appears most of them just need to be repotted.  This will be my first time to divide lilies.  I hope to do a number of them this weekend when I have some help.

This may be the first time for this lily to bloom.. every thing as been slow to bloom... I have been watching the bud for more than a day...the bud was fuller and rounder than the other buds... and this morning it was opened fully before 8:00 AM... none of the other blooms were open yet .. I thought this information might help with the ID ..

Pond Chat / Plans for next year
« on: September 06, 2007, 08:12:49 PM »
Yes, the pond is never complete.  I wondered what are your plans for next year.  I am planning to rearrange the pond plants.  I moved a number of the land plants and I am very happy with that.  I plan to put the hibist in the water behind the larger waterfall maybe with a banana tree.  I want the dam beween the upper and lower pond to have plants on it but short plants so maybe I can see the water lilies from the house.  Hope to have the kiddie pond working before the year is over. Depending on how well that works will determine what new lilies I will try out here.  I was very happy with the potatoe vine on the smaller pond but in the long run I would like to have some thing that would be evergreen there one day.

Pond Chat / Pond heater ??
« on: September 03, 2007, 07:28:49 PM »
Any one here use a heater in the pond or a kiddie pond to help over winter trops??  As I am in Louisiana I don't know if I need it but I want to do all that I can to have my water lilies survive the winter.  I would like to have them over winter outside too.  Is that to much to ask??

Pond Chat / Kiddie pool ?? for Kat
« on: August 03, 2007, 07:42:02 PM »
I just got back from Rite Aid which is not where I normally shop, but was looking for an odd item and they had kiddie pools on sale 25 % off .. bought one 15" high and 6' wide .. I am so excited.  I had thought I would not really look into buying one and getting it set up until Spring.  Now the question I have been afraid to ask.  I have bought a number of trop this year.  As I live in Louisiana would it be better to try to over winter these in the kiddie pool or in the pond.  Here is a list of the ones I am worried about:  I have a number of trop that do over winter in the pond.

Bob Trickett  Key Largo RHONDA KAY  Lavender Lace

Pink Pearl  Barbara Barnett   Gypsy

I now have 7 miami rose lilies still for sale

Myra

I have between 10 to 15 small miami rose lilies to sell $5 each plant with tubers plus postage.... they have lots of pads but not buds ... pads are from 1" to 2" and some 3" to 5"... even tho this is a trop I have had sucess over wintering these in the pond .... remember I live in North Louisiana ... I have also over wintered these inside .... would like to do paypal with these

Myra

Look further down for more pics.  I have to say these are the worst pics I think I have ever done. You can not really see the pads on the smaller ones here. On the plants that I did not get out of the water, the pads of the MR are the bigger ones. I would be glad to retake the pics. I have more plants than I took the pics of but these were the ones that I could get to without getting into the pond.

The one with the bloom is Tim's if he still wants it.  Tim that plant has another bud on it.

I had bought a number of small lilies last year but a lot of the markers in the pots were not readable... thought, well, I will just have to wait for them to bloom .... I know what lilies I purchased ... I am hoping this lily is lavender lace .. what do you think ???    :P

« on: June 30, 2007, 07:14:54 PM »
Can any one suggest a place I can order these.  Last year I was buying these at a plant nursey that sold water plants but this year they are saying they are waiting for their order to be shipped.  I am going by there tomorrow to see if they are in stock.  My lilies have been blooming ok but some have stopped blooming.  I think they need a little help.

Pond Chat / Any one plant a lily upside down??
« on: June 30, 2007, 07:09:23 PM »
I was in the pond today pruning the lily pads and looking at what needed to be divided and I found a lily that had a number of pads growing downward.  There were a few pads at the top of the water.  Very strange looking.  Think I should replant this lily??
