Pond Chat / New pics
« on: May 07, 2008, 08:41:58 PM »
I lost my memory card to my camera, so I haven't taken any pictures in quite awhile.  Here I am showing my son the ropes.  Another of my butterfly koi, an attraction, and a couple of roses.  I don't have the best of luck with roses, but I keep on keeping on with them.

Aquatic and Terrestrial Plant Exchange / Wanted: Topical Water Lilies
« on: April 10, 2008, 06:09:34 PM »
I don't have any and would love to start.  If anyone could help me out in this department, I would appreciate it greatly.  I don't mind the color, just any will do.  I'm willing to pay, clean your house, or even walk your dog  :D.  Let me know.  Thanks.

Pond Chat / 55 gallon filter
« on: April 02, 2008, 07:13:50 PM »
Anyone have a link or some help in constructing a 55 gallon drum filter?  I searched here and all I found were skippies.  Any help will be appreciated.

Pond Chat / My bad and good news
« on: March 26, 2008, 09:13:25 PM »
Bad:  My pump went out with less than 1 year of use.  I was soooo upset.  I guess it's about that time that our water is getting into the warmer temps and pumps are working a little harder.

Good:  I bought a few items from a garage sale.  Including a pump, filter, and an airator.  Boy did they come in handy.  I went to the place where I purchased the pump (Lowes).  Without a receipt, they honored my word and exchanged the pump for store credit (they didn't have the model I needed).  I was surprised they would do such a thing.  Oh, I didn't mention that I rolled out of bed at 8:30 p.m. to do this.  I couldn't sleep knowing my koi were in danger.  I'm a little nuts, I guess.

I know the pump is not the greatest, but that store's service works for me.  It is my first pump.  I didn't investigate the importance of a durable pump.  The pump is a PP1300 made by Pond Treasures.  It is a 1400 gph submersible pump.  I paid $107 for it.  I'm pretty sure it won't last another year, but I know I can return it if something goes wrong.  It also comes with a 5 year factory warranty.  I can now sleep.

Pond Chat / I have no patience
« on: March 19, 2008, 07:57:58 PM »
I really don't.  How do you all wait sooo long for everything to take course in this ponding business?  I can't wait till my algae disapears, I can't wait till my lilies bloom, I can't wait till my lotus bloom, I can't wait till my son moves out.....wait a minute, that's not part of ponding.  It's hard.  I'm soooo anxious.

Pond Chat / Anyone use Super Thrive for water gardening?
« on: March 03, 2008, 02:29:54 PM »
I use it in my garden and for my trees.  I was wondering, could you soak tubers with it and would be a difference in bloooms?  I just purchased a tuber from Lawanna, but I'm in no place to experiment with a lotus tuber.  Does anyone use this method?

Pond Chat / A new home for a new lotus
« on: February 23, 2008, 02:21:33 PM »
I spent the day digging up a new home for a bare root lotus I purchased from charlotteda.  Here's what it looks like.  I researched prior to the digging and made sure it met with lotus requirements.  I plan on using time releasing fertilizer and topsoil.  Any other recommendations?  Here are a few pics of the kids.  Nevermind the string algae (argh).

Pond Chat / Any ideas?
« on: October 14, 2007, 02:58:36 PM »
I need some help concealing this eye sore of a filter.  I can wait till the potato vines to overlap, but I think it will be a little too much.  I appreciate any input I can get.
