Pond Chat / Japanese Garden at Cal State Long Beach

So I decided to visit the Japanese Garden at Cal State Long Beach and took some pictures. Right now none of the water lilies in the pond were blooming and most of the large koi fishes have been auctioned off.

I just moved to a new apartment and there is no room to put any of my pond plants and I was thinking of growing them in a tank and using a metal halide lamp. Has anyone ever used these types of lamps?

Sooo I was wondering what everyone's preference is. I keep changing mine. I use to love tropicals but since I've had Mayla, I've changed my mind.

The Mayla that I bought from Shanna finally bloomed and it was SOOO worth the wait!


pond is still under construction! i got all these rocks from my neighbor! LOL well most of them


planning to add more plants and rocks


here is the rhonda kay i got from Kat. hopefully the other waterlilies will bloom. the other lilies in the picture that are blooming are texas dawn and a purple lily that I bought off ebay. the texas dawn looks 10 times better in person.

Hi I was wondering where everyone buys their pond plants from??? Maybe we could do a vender feedback in this forum?? JUST AN IDEA!

Texas Water Lilies - I bought plants from this site twice and I've never had a problem with them. The first time I bought plants they sent me nice sized lilies and all of them ended up blooming that season except maybe the red flare. This season I bought lotuses and they gave me an extra tuber. I was really excited about that!

Utopia Aquatic - This season I bought 2 water lilies from Lorenzo and I was REALLY happy with them. The foxfire was a blooming size!

Pond Chat / First Lotus Bud!

Hey Everyone!

I just got my first lotus bud. This is my first year growing lotus. I grew them indoors and transplanted them outside and Mrs. Perry D Slocum died and all I have left are Perry's Giant Sunburst. I thought the leaves of the plant would have to go up first before I get any buds. What a surprise!!!







Here is the unknown purple water lily that I have. It's doing pretty well

Someone on ebay sold this plant to me as a blue siam something? I forgot the name that they gave it. It ended up purple and didn't look anything like the picture. :'( Can anyone give me the name of this tropical?

The snails are tearing my water lettuce apart faster than they are reproducing!!! :'( Does anyone know a quick way to get rid of them without harming my fishes? Thanks!!

I've seen some pictures of fake alligators in ponds and was wondering if they keep away the herons from eating the fishes?

Anyone know? I'm tired of keeping that ugly net over my pond.
