My signature is usually Deborah and the Gang...recently the make up of my gang changed. Here are the new members.

Sage...Spanky or Shadow or Sam..Sofia...their favorite nap spot while I'm trying to work on the puter.  The  male gray & white is a real lover and hungry all the time..I'm having trouble sticking with a name.  S names was a thing with my late husband, so I'm trying to carry it on.

Blessings and health, Deborah

Terrestrial Gardening / Bitter Carrots
« on: July 03, 2010, 08:52:14 AM »
Ok...so I've never grown carrots before.  They are beautiful and well formed...BUT too bitter to eat?  One friend said I should be sugar in the bed????  I don't think so...I think it's the heat not the soil.  Tell me what you know!!  Thanks

Pond Chat / Above ground pond???
« on: June 19, 2010, 10:12:45 AM »
Ok...so I've been here maybe 2 weeks!!!  I KNOW that I saw a photo stream about building an above ground display pond from landscape timbers.  Not Seans with the 2X's.  I've search-n-searched...can someone point me in the right direction or give me the link.

My BFF has decided she just wants to grow some plants...those I've given her...timber form, liner and pump to move the water.  No fish.  Her DH mentioned buying a preform...I say no...go with timbers and liner.  Our local store sells EPDM 25 mil for about .45/sqft.

Thanks, Deborah    Shawnee, OK

Pond Chat / Snake
« on: June 03, 2010, 06:47:18 AM »
I'm really a garden nut that got into water gardening because  @O@ more plants!!  Do have a 100 gal poly stock tank that I keep goldfish in...have had this setup 8 years.  Last year was the first year I notice my snake problem.  Killed 4, one that had 3 fish in his gut!!!  Well a rather large beautiful brown snake has started visiting most evenings.  My fish population has gone from 13 or 14 to 5 o(.  I've tried Snake Away with no luck.  The snake is not a viper so I hate to kill it...probably a rat snake or chicken snake.  Any ideas?????

Has anyone had luck with:
Sulphur?
Cinnamon?
Moth balls?
One farm supply that was out of snake away offer those suggestions.

I had a beautiful giant papyrus that I've over wintered several years.  This year after I put it outside, it declined and died.  I would like another...purchase or trade.  I have large and small umbrella grass and another unidentified grass that does very well here & is hardy.  A local pond shop had this plant several years ago, it was unmarked but I bought it anyway because it reminded me of a medium cattail.  Just found this site, my local water gardening society has disbanded so I was looking for an online group...   @O@ Happy to have found you.
