Pond Chat / Lotus in Smaller Pond
« on: October 20, 2011, 11:37:58 AM »
Good Afternoon All!

Just wondering if any of you have photos of Lotus in a smaller/medium sized pond?  I want to get one next spring and have read descriptions of smaller varieties but can't find any photos in a smaller pond.  I would love to see your photos!  o(:-)

Pond Chat / Bringing Pond Plants Indoors
« on: October 17, 2011, 06:51:27 AM »
This is my first winter with the pond and we cleaned and netted it yesterday.  I dropped my lilies to the bottom and kept the iris in the pond but pulled everything else out. I have clover, palm, bell flower and taro.
What is the best way to keep these plants alive? I keep reading different things and a coworker with a pond said to wrap in plastic? Do I need to cut these back? Thanks!

Pond Chat / Cleaning Your Pond
« on: October 14, 2011, 04:44:56 PM »
How often do you clean your pond?  My pond has a skimmer and I clean the filter and use the net maybe 1-2 times a week and clean the waterfall every other week.  What else should I be doing?  I had a company come out and drain it and professionally clean it a few weeks ago and I honestly don't see myself doing that job...as it was two of them and they were here for hours!  I do have string algae which covers the bottom of the pond...the water is clear though.  I use barley and no other chemicals and I've never tested the PH or anything like and my fish have been healthy all summer.  I'm pretty much clueless about this and want to make sure I'm doing what I'm supposed to be.

Pond Chat / View from My Kitchen Window
« on: October 14, 2011, 10:50:50 AM »
This is the view from my kitchen window.  I love that I can enjoy the pond while cooking!   o(:-)
We still have a ton of work to do in the yard and the dirt area in front of the pond has just been seeded so I'm super excited for next spring to see how the yard looks!  I still have a lot of work to do on the garden that goes around most of the pond but we're getting there.

Pond Chat / bumping old threads
« on: October 14, 2011, 06:16:12 AM »
Good Morning all-
I received an email from another member I guess after I bumped an old thread yesterday. This was a rude email and I'm probably going to cancel my membership here. I didn't realize that my personal email address could be seen and this email contained curse words and so forth and about me embarrassing myself etc. So is bumping of older threads frowned upon here? I think its a great way for newer members to see some awesome photos from the past.

Pond Chat / Pond Progress

Here's a photo of the waterfall when we moved in:

and here's a garden I started on the side of the pond...it goes all the way around now and I just transplanted a japanese maple by the waterfall...I'll take more photos tonight:

My first water lily bloom...not sure what it's called but it's such a pretty bright pink  @O@...I only had maybe 3 blooms total this summer though:

This is after a cleaning and the waterfall was re-stacked:

It was so clean and clear but now it has some good algae growth:

Pond Chat / Hi all!
« on: October 11, 2011, 08:01:28 AM »
Hi everyone!  I'm new here and this is my first post.  I inherited a pond when my husband and I bought our home last year.  At first it was an annoyance and was more trouble than it was worth but I've come to really love it.  Our house needed a ton of work as well as the yard.  Now that it's all coming together my pond has become one of my hobbies.  I've added a some plants this year (pink lily, white lily, palm, bell flower, iris, water hydrangea, water clover and the submerged which I can't remember the name.  I bought 3 comets and two bunkys and after we lost a few I now have 1 comet, 2 bunkys and 3 babies one of which already turned orange and the other two are still black.  I also just had it cleaned and had the waterfall rebuilt to cascade a little.  It's a smaller pond about 7'x9'.  I need to figure out how to post photos as I have a few saved on my work comp.

Jen
