Chit Chat / A terrible thing!
« on: November 12, 2012, 10:23:32 PM »
So, I know I haven't been on here forever (mostly after Scott passed away, missed our chats), just wanted all to know that I may probably wont be doing any ponding for a long time. My boyfriend/ fiancé of 13 years passed away Sat. Nov. 3. Very tragic. I will be moving back up north from Alabama to Minnesota, really not ready for the cold weather and will miss my home, but I can't live there anymore (too many memories and and not enough close family) on the good side (I have to look at it that way) I will be living with my oldest daughter and her husband and my 1st grand baby due around Thanksgiving ( I will miss birth :() I am in MN right now and heading home Wednesday to take care of things. I was out of state when he passed away for youngest daughters wedding, and couldn't travel last week!

Just wanted everyone to know that I love ponding and it will be so hard, leaving my ponds and all my plants behind!

God bless u all and I can't wait for winter to be over!  Hopefully I will feel like starting over!

Tonya

Really miss talking to Joy (Tinkster, Sue, Vickie and all the others, having a terrible time thinking right now!)

Chit Chat / how much i love my children...
« on: July 14, 2011, 09:01:41 PM »
I think this about sums it up!

"My promise to my child: I am not your friend. I am your parent. I will stalk you, flip out on you, lecture you, drive you insane, be your worst nightmare & hunt you down like a bloodhound when needed because I LOVE YOU! When you understand that, I will know you are a responsible adult. You will NEVER find someone who loves, prays, cares and worries about you more than I do!"

Terrestrial Gardening / need some advice?
« on: February 03, 2011, 10:24:50 AM »
Ok, I bought some of those packaged plants from Lowe's and Big Lot's a couple weeks ago, bleeding hearts, lily of the valley, hostas, lady ferns & columbines.  They have all started sprouting, growing leaves, etc.  I think it's still to early to get them planted, what should I do with them in the meantime, don't know how long they will last in the plastic bags I bought them in.  I normally would'nt buy so early, but got Spring fever!  Anyone?

Chit Chat / Got this in my email today...

I laughed so hard, I cried!

Thought I would share it.

IT CAN BE HARD KEEPING A STRAIGHT FACE AS A COURT REPORTER
These are from a book called Disorder in the American Courts, and are things people actually said in court, word for word, taken down and now published by court reporters that had the torment of staying calm while these exchanges were actually taking place.

ATTORNEY: What was the first thing your husband said to you that morning?
WITNESS:     He said , 'Where am I, Cathy?'
ATTORNEY:  And why did that upset you?
WITNESS:     My name is Susan!
____________________________________________

ATTORNEY:  What gear were you in at the moment of the impact?
WITNESS:     Gucci sweats and Reeboks.
____________________________________________

ATTORNEY:  Are you sexually active?
WITNESS:     No, I just lie there.
____________________________________________

ATTORNEY: This myasthenia gravis, does it affect your memory at all?
WITNESS:     Yes.
ATTORNEY:  And in what ways does it affect your memory?
WITNESS:     I forget.
ATTORNEY:  You forget?  Can you give us an example of something you forgot?
___________________________________________

ATTORNEY:  Do you know if your daughter has ever been involved in voodoo?
WITNESS:     We both do.
ATTORNEY:  Voodoo?
WITNESS:     We do..
ATTORNEY:  You do?
WITNESS:     Yes, voodoo.
____________________________________________

ATTORNEY:  Now doctor, isn't it true that when a person dies in his sleep, he doesn't know about it until the next morning?
WITNESS:  Did you actually pass the bar exam?
____________________________________

ATTORNEY:  The youngest son, the 20-year-old, how old is he?
WITNESS:      He's 20, much like your IQ.
___________________________________________

ATTORNEY:  Were you present when your picture was taken?
WITNESS:     Are you shitting me?
_________________________________________

ATTORNEY:  So the date of conception (of the baby) was August 8th?
WITNESS:     Yes.
ATTORNEY:  And what were you doing at that time?
WITNESS:     Getting laid.
____________________________________________

ATTORNEY:  She had three children, right?
WITNESS:     Yes.
ATTORNEY:  How many were boys?
WITNESS:   None.
ATTORNEY:   Were there any girls?
WITNESS:      Your Honor, I think I need a different attorney. Can I get a new attorney?
____________________________________________

ATTORNEY:  How was your first marriage terminated?
WITNESS:     By death.
ATTORNEY:  And by whose death was it terminated?
WITNESS:     Take a guess.
____________________________________________

ATTORNEY:  Can you describe the individual?
WITNESS:     He was about medium height and had a beard.
ATTORNEY:  Was this a male or a female?
WITNESS:     Unless the Circus was in town I'm going with male.
_____________________________________

ATTORNEY:  Is your appearance here this morning pursuant to a deposition notice which I sent to your attorney?
WITNESS:  No, this is how I dress when I go to work.
______________________________________

ATTORNEY:  Doctor, how many of your autopsies have you performed on dead people?
WITNESS:     All of them ... The live ones put up too much of a fight.
_________________________________________

ATTORNEY:  ALL your responses MUST be oral, OK? What school did you go to?
WITNESS:     Oral ...
_________________________________________

ATTORNEY:  Do you recall the time that you examined the body?
WITNESS:     The autopsy started around 8:30 PM.
ATTORNEY:  And Mr. Denton was dead at the time?
WITNESS:     If not, he was by the time I finished.
____________________________________________

ATTORNEY:  Are you qualified to give a urine sample?
WITNESS:     Are you qualified to ask that question?
______________________________________

And last:

ATTORNEY:  Doctor, before you performed the autopsy, did you check for a pulse?
WITNESS:     No.
ATTORNEY:  Did you check for blood pressure?
WITNESS:     No.
ATTORNEY:  Did you check for breathing?
WITNESS:     No.
ATTORNEY:  So, then it is possible that the patient was alive when you began the autopsy?
WITNESS:     No.
ATTORNEY:  How can you be so sure, Doctor?
WITNESS:     Because his brain was sitting on my desk in a jar.
ATTORNEY:  I see, but could the patient have still been alive, nevertheless?
WITNESS:     Yes, it is possible that he could have been alive and practicing law.

Chit Chat / Please pray for my sister and our family...
« on: March 06, 2010, 08:53:18 PM »
Got a call shortly after 12pm today from my mother that my baby sister (44 years old) was on her way to the hospital.

Her daughter couldn't get her to wake up this morning to babysit her granddaughter.  Her significant other(SO) that she lives with couldn't get her to respond either.  He called 911 and an ambulance came and took her to the hospital.  She is about 35 minutes or so from the nearest hospital.

A couple hours later, I got a call that she was in a coma.  Within the next hour, I got another call, they did a CAT Scan and she had had an anuerism(??spelling).

I've been on the phone most of the day with family, and the last call I received was around 7:30 pm from her oldest daughter.  The doctor talked to her and Tami's SO and went over the cat scan with them.  He said her brain is so bad that they cannot tell the difference between the left side and right side of her lobes, and her brain is starting to fold over.  She does not respond to anything, and her pupils are so dialated and do not respond to light or anything.  They are going to run a test on her in the morning to see if her brain is functioning at all.  The outlook isn't good!  She is on lifesupport!  They said if her brain has any function, they will wait to see what happens, would take a miracle, and if it's not, the family needs to decide when to take her off lifesupport.

I am not going to give up hope, but please pray for her.

I will be on my way to Florence tomorrow if I can get the money, or Monday at the latest!

Thank you all!

Chit Chat / FSC Cigarettes - Am I the only one...
« on: February 26, 2010, 07:52:09 PM »
that hasn't heard about it until today, and sure enough, looked at my pack and there right above the barcode "FSC" - Fire Saftey Cigarettes!   What a joke!

Hope this is ok here, but I just heard about these today and did some searching on the internet and you wouldn't believe all the things I found.  Tons of symptoms making people sick, etc.  Got me thinking of how crappy I have been feeling lately for no reason, soar throat, headaches constantly, stomache aches, etc.  Not to mention the fact that a while back I realized that the cigarettes have been tasting really really bad, worse then usual odor, burning very poorly, etc., but I didn't know why until now.

If you're not a smoker then this won't matter to you, but for those of us that choose the bad habit, I think will be concerned.  I found a site to sign a petition, which I did right away!

If interested here is the site:

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/repeal-fire-safe-cigarette-laws

From what I gathered, it is in the paper that holds the tobacco, if you look close, or get wet, you will see little rings around the paper.  And then the glue is made from carpet glue!  Guess until they change the law, I will be rolling my own again (as long as the papers I buy aren't made with the FSC!

Spoke with Phillip Morris tonight and was told that it has been in effect since 2004 in NY and several states have been following and that AL's law passed in Nov. 09', seems that's when I started feeling sickly!

They were married on May 8th this year at Kiffmeyer Park, St. Augusta, MN.

My daughter Heather was the maid of honor, and I walked Kristie down the aisle...

It was so great!

They played a slideshow at the reception at the hotel, they sent me a dvd.  I would like to share that with you all too, but I don't know how to download it onto my computer, If anyone could help me do that it would be great!!!

Chit Chat / Any car guys/gals out there?
« on: June 11, 2009, 08:58:04 PM »
I had trouble a while back with my Ford Ranger's Transmission Shift Cable (wouldn't start unless I put the shifter in neutral).  Took it to a mechanic and he said it was stretched, he very kindly, and for free tightened it for me and it has been working well.  I know I should have came up with the money to fix it, but never did.  Now, the last couple days it's been acting up again.  I finally got a doctor appointment at the free clinic tonight and when I went to leave at 5pm, I couldn't get it in any gear.  Finally got it started and put in reverse, backed out of driveway and went to put it in drive and no way....wouldn't go into any gear but neutral or reverse! Keep in mind, this is my only vehicle and I live six miles out of town.  I called several auto stores in town and they can't one.  I tried searching Ford's websit and can't seem to find the part.  Maybe I'm overstressing over nothing, but my fiance is leaving out of Mobile on Tuesday for almost seven weeks (and I  will be here by myself)  I need a vehicle to get my mail at the post office   and just for general things I need.  Not to mention getting him to the airport.  (He is going to San Mateo, CA to the Help Clinic to learn or get better from his RSD pain that he got from his work injury in Jan. 06 and still hasn't been able to return to work.)

Forgot to mention that we found a bult? on the floor board of the truck, looks like it came from the steering column or dash, with grease on it.

I'm just wondering, how much will the part cost and where can I get it (the Ford dealer is usually pretty expensive, but I need it fixed ASAP!

Sorry for the long wind, guess I'm mostly just venting...I'm so frustrated right now!

Thanks to all that read this...I'm sorry!

Hi all,

I got some Lotus tubers from Tinkster and posted some pic's of it in chat.  She suggested I post them here, so here goes.

The first pic is of the barrel, manure, rocks and osmocote I used.  20 gallon barrel, composted cow manure, pea gravel and 14-14-14 flower and veg. osmocote.

Forgot to take a pic of the osmocote at the bottom of the barrel before I added the dirt, but it's there.  The pot measured ruffly 24 inches at the top.  So I added around 1 cup osmocote.

Next is the barrel with the dirt and and tubers on top.

Also a pic of the tubers before planted.  (Of course, the growing tip in the pic that was broke off I did not plant.)

Then pic with the rocks added and last with water in the barrel (also took one couple days later.  Was careful not to cover the tips as one of the tubers had a very short growing tip coming up (the middle tuber).  Approximately 1 to 1 1/2 inches of pea gravel.
And then added a couple inches of water (used pond water out of a preformed that has about 6 fish and a couple water lilies.)

Hope this helps and I hope these instructions are as clear as mud, as I'm not used to posting how too's.

Sorry, limited to four pic's, so I couldn't add the pic's of the water added, but I think you all can imagine that.

Thanks,

Chit Chat / 2010 Census Takers???
« on: March 21, 2009, 10:25:19 PM »
Hi all,

I am starting my 5 day training for the 2010 Census Taker job on Friday the 27th.  I was just wondering if any of you have ever done it before, or know anyone that has.  I guess I will be what they call an enumerator, where you drive around and update/verify addresses and knock on doors (will find out more Friday).  The pay is pretty good, $12.50 hr, 55 cents per mile, get paid weekly on Wednesday's, and is only supposed to last for 12 weeks.  I've never done anything like this before, have not worked at all in the last two years, before that was a secretary at an insurance office for 14 years in SD.  I'm kind of worried about all the properties around here in Southern Alabama (only lived here about 2 1/2 years) that have private property or no tresspassing signs (don't want to get shot going onto someones property.  I'm excited and nervous all at the same time.  It will be pretty good money, which I can really use right now.  But at the same time, I don't want to endanger my life or have to drive to all areas of the country that I'm not familiar with.  Am I being paranoid or just nervous about the job?  Anyone?

Thanks,

Tonya

Chit Chat / my trip to Minnesota got moved up, Gustov...
« on: August 29, 2008, 10:06:14 PM »
Hi all,

I have been awaiting my trip to Minneapolis, MN on Wed., the 3rd of Sept., to see my two DD's (I haven't seen them in almost two years).

Leaving from Mobile, AL (got a post on Delta's website today, travel may be impacted due to Gustov).  Got on the phone with the travel agent in MN and am know leaving out on Sunday, the 31st.

Will get to see my oldest DD (I'm going to here place) three extra days.  She had a hard time containing herself at work today (she works at credit union and is attending college (graduates in Dec. 08, - getting married in May, 09) she is so excited to see her mommy (LOL).  Her co-workers told her to settle down or she would have a heart attack!

I have one suitcase (to be put in baggage) full of an afghan?? for one of my daughters (the other one is still in the works), 5 winter scarves that I crotched for my DD's and a few of their friends and some clothes and stuff for them.  It will be empty on my way home.

I have one carry on bag - stuffed to the brim, and of course my purse jammed as full as I can get it!

Even though it doesn't look at the moment like Gustov is heading directly our way, I had to do something to see my girls.   I am also going to have friends take me to Mobile and keep my truck at their place further away for protection (hopefully)..

Wish us luck here in AL as I am wishing all luck in LA and TX, or where ever this hurricane may make land!!!  I want to come back to my fiance, my rental house, and an airport (never been through a hurricane before, as I am from South Dakota).

Sorry for the long boring story, felt like talking tonight, am anxious and nervous, don't travel much (not to mention by my lonely - how old am I, LOL!!!)

Chit Chat / taco pizza, anyone??
« on: August 14, 2008, 07:33:59 PM »
Looking for a recipe for taco pizza to make at home.  I've searched recipes.com and cooks.com, but didn't really find any that sounded all that good - and lots of variations on wether to use pizza sauce, salsa, tomato sauce, or no sauce.  Anyone on here ever made it, and if so, how?

My two favorite foods are tacos and pizza, and I love the taco pizza at pizza hut and godfather's but usually get pepperoni or the works - would really like to try my own at home.

Thanks all!

Terrestrial Gardening / great plant find at walmart today...
« on: May 04, 2008, 05:32:37 PM »
I was in Walmart today to pick up some potting soil and some large pots to repot some of my palm trees and other plants.

One of the garden center gals was throwing all kinds of plants in a cart.  I asked her what they were doing with them and she said throwing out.  (They were wilting and drying up.)  I asked her if I could have them or how much they wanted for them.  She checked and came back and said $10 for the whole cart.  I thought cool!

Our best friends were in there at the same time and were looking for plants for their yard too, so I told them I'll split them with you if you like.  So we each paid $5.

We got 7 hydrangea's (Merrits Supreme), one Begonia (Dragon Wing), one rose bush (can't remember the name - but a red one, like friends were buying already), 4 hanging baskets (assorted), 2 Ipomea (Sweet Caroline) and a few others.

We took them to friends house and split them up.  I brought mine home and transplanted all except the hanging plants.

I think I got a good deal, but really shouldn't be buying plants right now as we are going to be moving by months end and more to drag.  But, I just can't help myself when it comes to plants, and I thought it was a great deal!

What do you all think?

Pond Chat / Dutch Iris (Iris Hollandica) can I put in watergarden?
« on: May 03, 2008, 07:42:50 PM »
Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone knows if I can plant this type of Iris in a watergarden tub, with shallow water over the pot?

I've tried searching and some sites say keep moist, while others say just damp.

I would like to dig them up and move to one of my containers in more sun if I can.

Thanks all,
