So how many times did she jump up and hook her claws in the window?

If the cat has been in the house for three weeks, they've had time to get used to the fact that it's there.  They might get to be friends quickly, but unless they are kittens it's not likely.  If the new one is a kitten and the other two are adults, the new kitten a little more likely to win them over and become friends with them.

A lot of it depends on the cats and their personalities.  We had 3 cats . . . two were great friends and the third didn't bother the first two and they didn't bother her.  Then one died of old age and one disappeared and we had one cat left.  She's rather shy and quiet.  When we got a new cat, he was bouncy and full of personality (and mischief - he's in the ceiling right now!).  The two of them have been together for 2 years and still don't really like each other.  The younger one likes to chase the older one around and scare her and the older one hates the younger one.

The dog loves them both but is smart enough to stay away from the older one.

Doesn't have to be purdy if it does the job. . . . but it's not as bad as some I've seen.  Sure wish I had a greenhouse . . . or a place to put one.

The pond looks really great!  I love that you still have the swans . . . . they belong there!  But I don't see much impatiens and I'm sure you always had a LOT of that!

I don't think that they'll survive in your pond, so it would be kinder to drain it and force them to fine a better winter home.

Thanks everyone . . . I'm trying hard to keep a level head thru this and it's not easy.  I didn't post this for sympathy, just to let everyone who was so supportive when this first broke know what's up.

Chit Chat / Saw Dad today . . . .
« on: October 14, 2006, 05:10:14 PM »
He actually looked pretty good.  He was up and about and in a pretty agreeable mood.  He's getting very skinny cuz the tumor is causing him to feel full all the time so he doesn't eat much.  Talked to one of the cancer docs last week - won't give you my opinion of him.  Going to talk to a new one on Monday to see if he has anything helpful to offer.  Dad's accepted what's going on and doesn't seem too keen on doing much to fight it at this point, and that's his decision to make.  I'll only push him if someone has something that will make him more comfortable.  Mom's still pretty ticked off about the whole situation . . . . want's him to fight more, wants him to stay with her, doesn't want to move, etc.  I can't blame her for feeling that way either.

It was a gorgeous day up in the mountains - crisp and cool, but sunny and smelled like autumn.  The girls spent an hour lost in a corn maze and had a great time.  We bought a peck of apples and a terra cotta pumpkin.

Yes, if you have sunny windows.  Some of these are recommended as houseplants and the ones that I have rooted are more shade tolerant than the ones that are tougher to root.

Oh Man, wouldn't that be cool tho!?  I'm lucky if I can get two hummers to hang out in my backyard, but they do come.  I have lots of flowers that they love, even if I have them growing in less than ideal conditions!

Well, I need either his email or his real address.  I started some passiflora cuttings for him and they need to go in the mail soon if they are going to go.  I'm afraid I'll kill them over the winter if I keep them.

We got down into the low 50's last night and supposed to get down in the 40's tonight.  Winter stinks - especially when it comes this early!

Pond Chat / Re: Shubunkins changing colors
« on: October 14, 2006, 03:40:13 PM »
Um, they usually go from colorful to less colorful to white . . .  I have a shubunkin that was gorgeous until it turned into a sarassa.  Funny but only the black faded off the fish.  I figure it took two or three years for that to happen, I have plenty of time for it to lose it's red and go completely white . . . like the other shub that was in that pond!

But I have hundreds of shub babies in the lily pond that need to be moved  to the big pond for the winter.  Maybe some of them will be pretty.

Finally!!!  Something on this thread worth reading!!!  And I agree that we need a kick for that tea . . . .

(Not that the excellent explanations and descriptions weren't worth reading, but the argumentative posts of somebody weren't worth the time they took to scroll past!)

Pond Chat / Re: Cold Hardy Palms
« on: October 13, 2006, 05:31:15 PM »
Think I'll just bring them indoors till they are a bit bigger then plant them in Florida.  I found a link where it said they are common in Houston and can take freezing weather, but haven't seen anyone use them here, so not sure.  Since I have a bunch, maybe I'll try one or two . . . .

Pond Chat / Re: The pondlet

Well now, that's a definite possibility.  I haven't seen the catbirds at the pondlet, but we have them.  I haven't seen the bluejays there either, but we have them too.  I have seen the cardinals and the tufted titmice there and several other birds.  The cats drink from there, but they've never messed with the fish.  (Billy did catch and de-tail a northern flicker, but I took it away from him and let it go . . . lost a lotta feathers, but I think it was ok).

Too bad too, the beta made it all summer.

Next year, I may get some hardware cloth and put it across the top and let the plants grow thru it.  That way the fish will be safe . . . .

Great link, but it didn't cover my sago palms.  I've read that they are hardy enough to take a freeze, but I've never seen any in Atlanta, so I don't know if they are hardy here.  I have a buncha seedlings, so I was wondering . . . .

did very well this summer, but the beta seems to be gone . . . .  :'(  DD#1 is not too happy about that.  She is determined to get a much bigger ceramic pot for next year because then "that stupid raccoon can't get my fish!"

(Don't know if the raccoon got the beta or not . . . it was there and happy just a couple of weeks ago.  It may have died of old age . . . . we've had it for at least 3 or 4 years now.  The one we got at the same time as we got it died last spring - of old age.)
