Yes the well is just decorative for now and my wish is it will grow plants in the next year.  I did think I would get a few pics of other peoples wells.  I just know they are out there.

perplexed, I did think when I first looked him over that one of his eyes did not look right but later thought it did not look that much different than the other one.... but maybe you are right....

Rick.. I don't really think it would be the cold.  I am in Louisiana.  We have had one real cold spell where it was down to 29 degrees.  These frogs have been in this pond for 3 years and seemed to weather the winters in the past ok.

Pond Chat / Why is frogs dying in my pond?? Pic
« on: November 29, 2008, 03:42:06 PM »
In less than 2 weeks I have found 2 frogs in the pond dead.  The first one I saw laying on the bottom of the pond on his back dead.  I scooped him up with a net.  He had a small hole in his side with goop squeezed out of it.  I thought it very strange as it is the first frog I have had come up dead in the pond.  Thought maybe some thing bit him.  Today I found another frog dead in the pond. He was floating under a lily pad, but I could see his back legs sticking out from under the pad.  Netted him out but there does not seemed to be any thing wrong with him. No hole. He does appear a little fat but that is the way I like my frogs to be.  Check out the pic and tell me what you think.  I have a number of different kinds of frogs in my pond in the past 3 years but I have never had one die in the pond like this.

And I think I remember you saying you are only keeping hardies in these ponds over the winter.  The temps here in North Louisiana are to be 33 degree for the next 2 nights.  I can not believe this is happening this early in the year.  Thank you for the suggestion of running a pump to move the water around.  Good idea

Do you cover your lily ponds in the winter?? If so, do you do that when the temp get at a certain level?  I am thinking of putting a pond heater in mine and covering it with clear plasic but I am not sure when to do this

Ok, Joyce, I hear what you are saying, but I swear, I pulled up some of the same plant stalks that had been red and transpanted them in the front yard.  I could see if there were some blue and some red but it is all blue flowers. I am just totally stunned.   :-\  I am going to try and wait it out to next year and see what it all looks like then. If I still only have the blue I will have to get more of the bee balm as I have been successful in getting it out of the back yard, which was the plan.  Thanks for the infor tho. I can believe the plants that are blooming in the front are the blue mist flower.  A friend of mine that I gave some of the bee blam to is very ok with the blue flowers.  I am just not as happy with them.

I had some bee balm in a flower bed in the back yard and it became invaisive.  I transplanted some of it in a flower bed at the front of the house with less space to become less invaisive. Then I removed that in the back yard intirely. Well, in the back yard the flowers were the red ones in the first pic.  The ones I transpanted into the front bed are the second pic, which is an intirely different flower shape and color. Is there a way to get the flower to return to the red flower???

Yes, LeeAnne, I was also very pleased with my purchases from them.  My plan is to plant land plants in the fall this year so I will have more time in the spring to work with the pond and liles, hopefully.

Here in Shreveport, Louisiana Gustav went east of us instead of the projected west of us.  The result was just a good drizzing rain for a couple of days.  The people to the east of us received the floods we were expecting.  But I am saving the sandbags I thought I was going to need then for this next storm coming in.

Hey, wish I had a DIY guy to help with projects like that. I just love that kind of stuff... saw a number of things I would like to build or borrow from you ... like a shed for the wood, a potting shed, a lotus pond... humm, so little time ... so much to do.... lol
