Wonderful, Jerry!  Oh how I wish my BOP would bloom here for me!

122
VERY nice!  My yellow one, Charles Grimaldi, just gave me a beautiful burst of blooms, but I wasn't able to enjoy it, as I was driving back and forth to mom's rehab daily the past 2 1/2 weeks. There are just a few blooms left.  Some buds, but since we had frost last night, I don't think they'll get a chance to open and shine!  Does yours have that heavenly perfume scent?

I hope your neighbor loves this gift!

Looks good, Jerry!

I just took a few cuttings of some wandering jews at the rehab place where my mom was for the last 2 weeks.  I'm hoping they grow for me indoors - I've not had a lot of luck with that plant for some reason.

I had a dwarf papyrus in my pond last summer (2009) for the first time and tried to overwinter it by sinking it into the pond.  It did not make it through my zone 6 winter, even though we had a heater in the pond.

However... I took 2 cuttings before sinking it, which rooted very easily, and kept it in a pot of wet soil inside.  One cutting survived and produced a very large new plant for me this past summer once I put it back out in the pond.  I intend to do the same thing this year, in hopes that I will be able to continue to have this plant without having to purchase new ones.  The key is to keep the cutting moist at all times while in the pot indoors.

It's all gorgeous! 8-)~

My pond is also beginning to shut down.  Lilies aren't growing as much, though I do still have a few flowers left.  With today and tonight's very heavy rains, the variegated HUGE ornamental grasses on the sides are totally splayed down from the middle and looking oh-so-sad...

WOW Annette!  When we visit him perhaps we can get together! O0

My friend, Lori, visited our pond for the first time the other day and took this picture with her cell phone -
 I think it's a nice action shot!

I just got a laptop for my birthday 2 days ago, and it has a camera and microphone so I am so excited that I'll be able to both use gmail calling and Skype.  My son was telling me about gmail calling just yesterday - I'm so glad about it, as he is moving cross country to California!

Thanks Annette!

My method was to cut out ALL junk food - I was a pretty good junkie!  Plus I've cut out lots of fattening sauces and condiments - those calories really add up as well!  I'm not good at following planned diets, so this works well for me.  It's all about eating healthier, and I am thrilled that some of my old clothes fit so much better now.  Still have a way to go, but it's doable, though slow these days.

With all the stress I have going on - not only my mom, but my son (27) is moving from here in NY (our house) to California next Saturday.  This move was just initiated 2 weeks ago, so it's been a lot to deal with suddenly.  And then there's my very bright college aged daughter who isn't doing what she should be at school... well it's been very hard for me to stay on task with losing weight, because I am a stress eater, but I have been pretty good so far.  Just up and down a lb. or two.

Thanks for noticing though! :)

Edit: OH WOW - I just noticed that you live in OC - he is moving to Irvine!!!  Have any tips or good places for him to go?!?
If it's easier, would you send me a message with any places you could recommend?  Thanks!

Thanks so much everyone for all your kind words and well wishes.  Gardening and this pond really are my salvation during the nice weather months, and I get "lost" out there each nice weather day, when I can.  Knitting is my indoor salvation, and is always with me when I am on the go.

Mom went to see the cardio-thorasic surgeon last week who did Bill Clintons's quadruple bypass surgery, Barbara Walters valve replacement recently, and also surgery on Mayor Koch of NYC.  Amazingly, my sister got mom an appointment with him rather quickly.  He is an extremely nice, patient, and thorough man!   He is supposed to get back to us, to tell us if she is a candidate for the clinical trial surgery where they replace valves doing it by catheterization rather than open heart surgery.  She would not survive the latter unfortunately...

All that said... the ^%$#&#* HERON was at our pond yesterday morning!!! {nono}  >:(  My husband saw it fly past the familyroom window while he was watching tv in there and ran out on the deck to chase it off!  I've been looking for the heron for a few weeks now, as this is the exact time of year that I started seeing it the past 2 years.  When the weather improves, and I have the time, I will go out there and try stringing fish line across the surface, but that will mean that I won't be able to go into the pond after that to clean out dead lily pads, etc.  #$^#@%& HERON!!! >:(-

It's not been an easy summer for me - my mom was hospitalized twice in July, and I've been driving the 45 miles to my parents' house at least 2-3 times a week to take her to doctor's appointments every week since then. :-\  My salvation during this time has been my pond and my gardens. O0  On my rare days off from this schedule, I am out there cleaning things up or just regrouping by watching the fish.  o(  They have become so friendly, they let me PET THEM! o(:-)  Who ever knew that fish are petable?!?  It cracks me up! ;D

Here are some pictures that I took this past weekend.

The center fish here was a baby from this spring.

This froggie lives in my lizard's tail plant and just sat there for a long time while I was cutting the plant back.  The plant had been growing so nicely all summer and then all of a sudden, all of the leaves turned yellow and starting dying off. Thankfully, now that it's a bit cooler out the leaves are starting to grow back.

Thanks Junie!

Annette - thanks for sharing your pictures.  Your fish make mine look so very small still, and here we thought they were growing nicely - can't wait til they are the size of yours!  Though I did see the heron flying high overhead about a week ago.  It's the time of year when he starts coming in for a landing and a bite to eat! {nono} >:(- :o

Annette - what kinds of black markings did your fish develope?  I thought they lose black the older they get?

Well we noticed that the fish with the blue, white, and orange stripes no longer has orange on the bottom?!?  There are only a few tiny spots left.  Is this normal?  All of my other reddish/orange fish are still the same colors as when I got them.

He seems very healthy in spite of losing this color, and is still young.

We've been having the same problem here for a few weeks this summer.  The water got nice and clear earlier in the summer, but with the extremely hot temperatures all summer long we have solid pea soup once again!  My husband cleans the filters almost every day, and he even bought 2 new UV bulbs thinking that might be the problem.  A very expensive attempt to fix the problem that only helped for 2 days before it got all dense looking again.

I will be looking for answers here as well.

Thanks for identifyling my new koi, Thornygardener!

I am not familiar with dragon scales?  Are those the things I was questioning as to whether they were bubbles or bumps?

Thanks Annette!  We can clearly see the blue in our pond right now, though the guy at the pond store said as they get older, the blue tends to fade a bit.  The owner had told me a while ago that it's not really blue pigment, but black.  It just looks blue on some of them for some reason - don't know what that reason is, but the ones we chose are pretty blue!

Thanks Katfish!

I must admit that we don't have patience for QTing - we just keep our fingers crossed that all will be well.

As for yellow, I did get 2 baby yellow koi at a box store in late April.  One disappeared into that black hole I mentioned never to be seen again, but the other has been growing by leaps and bounds.  My husband is so funny - every time he sees the yellow koi he laughs and calls him the "submarine"! ;D  So now of course, this fish is named "The Yellow Submarine"!  I just hope that by naming him, we haven't given him certain death, as the myth goes... :-\
