Wonderful job on your pond...your plants and fish look super healthy.   o(

The yellow native lily looks like one that grew and bloomed in Mirror Lake, the lake we lived on in Brown Mills, NJ.

Apparently minor faults criss cross the US.  Just west of me they were having small quakes like crazy about a month ago.  One evening I came home and found 2 items that had been on hanging shelves broken on the floor...not sure what happened.  Sort of scary/weird....one item was a cup/saucer from my Grandmother Kay...so sorry it was broken.

Pond Chat / Re: Tadpoles....lots of them!
« on: June 04, 2010, 03:31:02 PM »
Jillian...I encountered the same situation and hated to see them so hungry so I googled.  Tadpoles will eat slices of banana or zucchini, so now I feed a little every few days.  The banana should be just ripe, not green or mushy.  Mine will polish off a slice about as thick as read glasses 1/16" in a day and it's funny to watch'em.  Of course depending on the population I sometimes put in 2-3 slices.  Don't over feed...rotten banana isn't good for water quality.  {nono}

Here are videos on youtube about feeding tadpoles....looks like they will eat almost anything.

Oh Lynne...I started a week ago caring for 3 abandoned kittens.  They are so young, they have no knowledge about where to potty and very little about grooming.  I'm hoping it will work out...I've grown so attached to them.

Well I don't know if it was just full from the night before or the fact I cut it's tail off with a shovel while trying to send it into the snakey-hereafter  ::) or the smell of kitty poo but it did not visit last night.  Since it doesn't have a tail, if I see it I'll know it's the guilty one and send it on into the hereafter.

I agree...snakes have their place in the food chain...but my  o( change their position...hoe or shovel they are gone.

I have several snakes around that I see almost weekly...but with the tail missing, I'll know the guilty party.  {-).

Thanks for all your help...I'm handy but the snake trap...I don't think I can go there.  Leave it alone or kill it.  That's really the options now.

Lawanne...I'll get some mothballs when I go into town.

Blessings,  Deborah...Shawnee, OK

It's just me....no help.  I do have some bird netting, I'll give that a shot.  For tonight I put the bedding that the  3 abandoned kittens have been sleeping and "other stuff" one...Maybe that will stink enough to send it along. :o  Rather wicked!!!!

The plants growing in the one half whiskey barrel filter I have....have turned into a squirrel salad bar...luckily everything grows so fast it's not really noticeable.  Thank goodness they have not developed a taste for lilies or lotus!  8)

I'm really a garden nut that got into water gardening because  @O@ more plants!!  Do have a 100 gal poly stock tank that I keep goldfish in...have had this setup 8 years.  Last year was the first year I notice my snake problem.  Killed 4, one that had 3 fish in his gut!!!  Well a rather large beautiful brown snake has started visiting most evenings.  My fish population has gone from 13 or 14 to 5 o(.  I've tried Snake Away with no luck.  The snake is not a viper so I hate to kill it...probably a rat snake or chicken snake.  Any ideas?????

Has anyone had luck with:
Sulphur?
Cinnamon?
Moth balls?
One farm supply that was out of snake away offer those suggestions.

I too would like some of the bacopa and bladderwort.  I have:

variegated canna (http://www.dutchbulbs.com/store/cannas/60319?link=collection-product)
cutting of Valley Sunshine Brug (http://www.valleygrow.com/product.sc?productId=35&categoryId=11)
snowflake my leaves don't have the dark edge...bought it at local pond shop, going by their label, not sure what color probably white, it's growing but not blooms yet(http://www.pondkoi.com/plant_pop/TBP-064.htm)

Would like to trade if possible.  I have lots of garden plants as well...shasta daisy, diff colors of greggii salvia, snowball bush, torch lily, sweet summer phlox, variegated solomons seal, and strawberry begonia.  I can sent pics if you are interested.

My sister and niece live between Gilmer and Gladewater, my parents live in Huxley.

Oh Björn, it breaks my heart that you lost most of your fish.  We had a hard winter over here too.  I love your pictures and videos...your music is amazing.  The beautiful tree...in front of your home with red blooms is very usual.  Your "new" deeper pond is lovely too, one can tell from the color it is much deeper. o(

Great ponds and outside living area...think I'd just pull a bed out there and call it home  o(  You can wait on plants if you'd like, but it's not too hot to mail now and they help with your water quality.
