Your UV sterilizer will reduce the nutrients in the pond.

Waterlilies should be potted in dirt and fertilized regularly.

You can grow parrot's feather, forget me nots, various rushes, equiseteum, marsh marigold, water celery in the rocks. I do. However, I don't have a UV and I don't clean out my pond.  {:-P;;  :o
Do you have a bottom drain?

How close to the water surface are they?  Water temps?  If you get them too hot they don't survive but if you've got them too far under the water surface they sometimes don't do much.

Right under the water in the shallows ... the water will feel warm when the sun is out. Cools of some at night.

I went ahead & gave the others some fertilizer.

Should I?

Pond Chat / vivip question
« on: July 16, 2009, 05:05:47 PM »
I get a vivip it has little pads & a few little roots. I put them in a pot & they just sit there & don't do anything. They don't die but they don't get bigger either.

How do you get them to grow?

Should I try floating them in bags longer?

I don't know if they're hollow but they are round, not flat.

The place was closed for some odd reason today ... they were supposed to be open according to their sign. So have to try tomorrow.

Anyone have this? Is it hardy in zone 7?

A local nursery had some ... she wasn't sure what it was called but thought it was tropical. I came home & did a search, finally found it but got differing information on it. Some said zone 6, some said zone 8. *Shrugs*

Thinking about getting some.

O0 This vine just does not quit. SOOOO pretty this year. I am going to try to get some seeds from it to share.

Wow, that's the best looking clematis (?) I've seen.

Thanks.

I did a search.

This one stinks, I noticed when I rubbed the leaves my hands smelled so now I fear it may be chinese sumac/stink tree.
Don't know where it would have come from but I guess it's got to go.

How do you get it out of string algae?

Mine either does nothing or gets tangled with string algae, LOL.

I'm sure this is a weed but I'm curious what it is. It just popped up.
The leaves are not serrated. Upon doing a search, it looked similar to elderberry except for the serrations.

Sorry about the pics, it was dusk & too dark without the flash but too bright with it. If needed, I can get better pics tomorrow.

Can you find a redeared sunfish?

Someone on koiphen mentioned it to someone else having snail problems .... said they're also called shellcrackers.
Apparently they like snails.

Terrestrial Gardening / Re: What does your Jade plant look like?

This was taken Aug. last year.

Not sure how old it is. I think he had it when I met him, that was 9 yrs ago ... of course it was pretty small back then.
If/when a piece breaks off he sticks it right back in the dirt. There's also a few babies in pots by themselves around that were stuck in different pots when they broke off. There were also babies in other plants from where the leaves would fall into their pots & start.

It's one of his favorite plants.

I've seen a couple people mention kitty litter for algae scum .... but doesn't that leave a layer of clay mud on the bottom that will need to be cleaned out?

148
He has a big green one that goes out in spring & in in fall.

149
I'm gonna have to keep my eye out for this .... hubby likes jade.

I saw someone on koiphen (I hope I can say that ) I think that had one catch on fire & burn part of his deck as well as the liner.
