Tattoo of a water lily.. Hmmmm.. Nah, my commitment issues would probably prohibit it...  ;)

I really like the Pink Flamingo- very unusual!  Even though I've fallen hard for the blue lillies, pink technically IS my favorite color.

Pond Chat / Re: Help! Nasty, slimy pea soup lily pond water

Okay, okay... I will not add anymore algae remover. :redface: Patience has never been a strong point for me.
Both of my ponds have beautiful, clear water, so the pool was irritating me pretty bad. The fish were for skeeters (which can get bad here), but I only saw one (a rosie) today in that mess. I'm not sure if I can catch him, but I'll try. I do have some skeeter tabs, so I'll just drop one of those in there. I put some floating plants from the other ponds in, and added plenty of oxygenators when I set it up. Also put in a small solar powered fountain which circulates for about 5 hours a day. I think I still have some of the powder-type beneficial bacteria left, I will go look for it.

Thanks for the insight, I will try to be more patient!  :angel:

I've considered buying a turtle (or two or ten).

 :teehee:

(A gal after my own heart- When you want something, why not just get two. Or ten. Etc.  {:-P;; )

I hope the new resident decides to stick around!

Ha Ha, that's why I have so much, huh? I love it though- it smells so sweet and does so well in the shade. I thank you for your offer to share your hostas.  :) See if anyone has hosta trades for you first; I wouldn't want to be greedy.  ;D If you get no traders, I'd be glad to send you postage, plus a bit for handling.

Amanda

I don't have hostas to trade, but I noticed on your site you were looking for white flowered perennials, especially good smelling ones. I have lots of very hardy Lily of The Valley for trade. I'm interested in any hostas at all, or any perennials really. I have a list of other hardy items listed here: http://www.americanponders.com/forum/index.php?topic=3193.0

I'm in the frozen tundra (Michigan) so I would imagine most of this would be hardy for you too.

Let me know if you see anything you would like to trade for.  :)

Amanda

PS. I read your member page on Garden Web, and we've alot in common!  O0 We also live in an old farm house (constantly renovating- ugh), love fishing and our doggies, and my day job is also in the healthcare industry.

Pond Chat / Help! Nasty, slimy pea soup lily pond water
« on: June 22, 2007, 03:00:27 PM »
 :cry: I did (I think) everything I was supposed too with my kiddie pool lily pond. I put it together maybe a week or so ago (?), and I just can't keep the algae at bay. (I put in the oxygenator plants and a few feeder fish, and planted the lillies as Timgod suggested.) I even resorted to a chemical algae remover a few days ago, but it's as slimy as ever. Today I finally couldn't take it anymore and stuck the hose in there to flush it out. It looks a little better, and I added more algae remover. Any suggestions to helping keep the water clearer would be GREATLY appreciated......

Terrestrial Gardening / Re: Anyone ever purchase from Hirts?
« on: June 21, 2007, 04:02:48 PM »
Ugh, I don't like those asian beetles either. They come in droves every now and then. I remember when I first started seeing them about 5 or 6 years ago; I picked one up and said "look at the pretty orange ladybug!". Then it bit me.  >:(- How UN-ladylike!

Hirt's had the mantis eggs too! I almost ordered an egg pod but hubby said they give him the creeps. lol
In hindsight, I'm thinking maybe I should have.....  {:-P;;

My ladybugs arrived safe and sound yesterday (1500 for $9.99).
I released them last night; this morning I checked to find them happily muching away on the nasty amphids all around the house.  @O@

I received the Black Prince and Blue Beauty yesterday and they look great!  o(:-) Thanks Kat!

The way the colors in the leaves are described, is it possible it's in the Sedum family verses Crassula? I have a Sedum that has very pretty pinkish purple hues in the leaves.

This site has over a thousand pics of different varietys- I had no time to look through before work today....  :o

This flower looks like the ones my strange plant has in the fall, but it's not the right color- makes me think mine just might be a Sedum variety too though. http://www.sedumphotos.net/v/sedum-ghij/Sedum+hidakense+rubellum.jpg.html

I'm so, so sorry. I know there is nothing that can be said or done that will lessen the pain. Just know prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.

Bonnie, would it up the postage any if you tucked a tiny bit in with my lillies?  {:-P;;

Terrestrial Gardening / Re: Peony Seeding?
« on: June 19, 2007, 04:36:32 AM »
Yes- seed pods. I don't know what to do with them either. I have several large areas of Peonys, but they have never spread from the seeds left on them (to my knowledge, and the plants are 35+ years old). They seem to slowly spread out away from the roots.

Def do best in full sun here in zone 5.

Well then, none of that helped you at all, huh?  ;D

Also my yellow water iris needs dividing, and I found some purple lilac seedlings too.  :)

Anybody? Nobody? I really need to thin those lily of the Vally!  :P
