I looked at the programmable machines a few years ago as a gift for my wife. What type of machine do you use? Is it an industrial model or consumer? Is it one that you are able to program in your own designs from pictures, Photoshop etc...

Hi Craig, I too would like some seed, especially from immutabilis. When you cross into it, does it seed like a species lily in that most seed is the same color or do you normally get color variety when you cross into it... ie pink, blue and or purple. As to the quiz... I have a question for you...do you use any vegetable dye to darken and cool the water like William Phillips does or not.

I read the latest post. In reading I noticed how it looked without the pics so I deleted the originals and have reloaded the ones used to show size.

Pond Chat / Help on Lily ID

I purchsed a lily some time back. It had a tag on it as the Queen of Siam....I suspect that as incorrect....Can anyone positively identify this lily. I think based on research on the Victoria-Adventure it might be a Key Largo. It looks just like the pic by LouAnn Norman.
It is highly viviparous. Grows medium to large. Free flowering.
Here are the links on Victoria so you might look and tell me what you think. I would really like to know for sure the name of this plant...
Where was the Truly named program 2 years ago when I needed it?

Thanks,
Tim
P.S. One of the photos of the Queen is by Lou so hopefully he will see this and can help.

You know you are just like my wife......you cost me money... ;)
My anniversary is in a few weeks and I spent the last three hours booking a trip to Oahu.
After checking all of the other areas I might like to visit it came back to HI...partly because of prices everywhere else and partly because it has been 6 years since we've been there. I may just have to look into seed collecting at Waimea... O0

It's pink...the color is fine. I just had to shrink it down so much to show the full size of the plant in question.
See the pics below. They were taken when it was a little overcast. Sometimes the Texas sun is a bit intense and washes out color...

Jennie in MT & matherfish

What are your thoughts on the plant sizes I showed in the pix? If we were trading, would you be satisfied? All of the plants shown have bloomed for at least a month? Would that be ok...good...great...

VIP starts.
What is expected in a trade for VIPs.
Should it be fuzzy?
Should it have a leaf?
Should it be starting roots?

Once again I would appreciate feedback from all those who trade.
Thanks,
Tim

What does a person believe to be a fair trade???
Is it a starter plant?
Is it a plant that has started to bloom?
Is it one that has bloomed for a few months?
Is is a full grown out plant like you purchase at a retail shop?
I have purchased plants from several members recently but have not yet received them so I do not know the proper trading etiquette.
I am posting a few small pix on what I would send as a trade. I grow my extra plants out in cups ala Sean.
Please, I would like good feedback from all who are traders in our community.

I just sent you a PayPal payment. I look forward to my newest prizes. Please note fragile, Plants, leave in shade etc... I have had problems in the past when UPS & USPS leave on concrete porch in 90+ degrees for extended time. I ended up with cooked lilies.

I got the following from here...
http://www.steves-digicams.com/2001_reviews/nikon995.html

Your camera can take the following sizes... I put the Megapixel equivalent out to the right
FULL (2,048 x 1,536)           3.145728   Megapixels
UXGA (1,600 x 1,200)          1.920000   Megapixels
SXGA (1,280 x 960)             1.228800    Megapixels
XGA (1,024 x 768)                .786432   3/4 Megapixels
VGA (640 x 480)                   .307200   1/3 Megapixels
3:2 (2,048 x 1,360)             2.785280   Megapixels

Quality - Select image quality by pressing or press and hold and rotate command dial to change the image size.

If you are using a 32 Mb card and you are taking 3.2 Megapixels you can basically take 10 shots before your card is full. If you take
them at SXGA 1.3 Megapixels then you can take 26.
Like I said before... you can always crop and get rid of extraneous photo data but you can't fake pixels that well so go for the best you can in each shot. With that being said though, if you are just taking snapshots to send to the web then just try to match the size you would like your recepients to view on their monitors...1280*960...1024*768....640*480...etc.etc.

If you have bought a digital camera you don't actually set the resolution... like picking a shutter speed. Most cameras have a variety of settings to save space on memory cards. Look at you camera guide to see the sizes available... Pick one, multiply the pixel sizes to get a resolution... ie...my 20D's highest is 3504*2336 = 8185344. Thats basically 8.1 Megapixels.
Let me know if you got any more questions.

Howstuffworks.com gives the following information.

Resolution
The amount of detail that the camera can capture is called the resolution, and it is measured in pixels. The more pixels a camera has, the more detail it can capture and the larger pictures can be without becoming blurry or "grainy."

Some typical resolutions include:

1600x1200 - With almost 2 million total pixels, this is "high resolution." You can print a 4x5 inch print taken at this resolution with the same quality that you would get from a photo lab.
2240x1680 - Found on 4 megapixel cameras -- the current standard -- this allows even larger printed photos, with good quality for prints up to 16x20 inches.
4064x2704 - A top-of-the-line digital camera with 11.1 megapixels takes pictures at this resolution. At this setting, you can create 13.5x9 inch prints with no loss of picture quality.

How Many Pixels?
You may have noticed that the number of pixels and the maximum resolution don't quite compute. For example, a 2.1-megapixel camera can produce images with a resolution of 1600x1200, or 1,920,000 pixels. But "2.1 megapixel" means there should be at least 2,100,000 pixels.
This isn't an error from rounding off or binary mathematical trickery. There is a real discrepancy between these numbers because the CCD has to include circuitry for the ADC to measure the charge. This circuitry is dyed black so that it doesn't absorb light and distort the image.

The most you can afford comfortably is your best bet. You can always shrink a bigger pic or crop it but scaling up never works without photoshop and algorithm filter software. And then it is still "iffy." Most people who want a point and shoot experience get a 4 megapixel camera. My family members are fine with that. I use a Canon Rebel and a Canon 20D for more control over my shots.

What lilies do you have starts of? I just throw all of my vip pads into a pool for growth and tubering over winter. I will have to look but I'm sure I have Panama out there in the mix. I also have a number of blooming plants if you are interested in a purchase.

Hi matherfish,
If I have any luck I will certainly give you a heads up. Vanilla Sky is not at the top of my list. I really want Foxfire and Ostara the most. I really appreciate the look of the lilies with petals instead of stamen. Unfortunately even if I get those they are not vivips so it is the old school method of propagation. Being a Texan it is not late in my season... I will still have blooming plants for at least two more months. Our lilies have really just spread out to their fullest. O0

Aquatic and Terrestrial Plant Exchange / Craig Presnell lilies
« on: September 14, 2006, 08:45:28 AM »
I have been looking for some time for some of Craig's lilies.... Foxfire, Ostara, Vanilla SKy, Allene, Tanglewood Blue. The ultimate find would be if anyone has Serendepity. To my knowledge he has not released that one to anyone yet. Being from Texas I still have a lot of bloom time left but have been unable to find a source for any of theses great items. I am very adept at propagation so A vivip, a start or even a plant that I could purchase are all possibilities. Thanks in advance for any possible help or information in tracking these ellusive items.

Good evening Kat,
I found your website earlier this evening. I have been on an exhaustive search for Presnell lilies. I am curious if you have any more of this deal available and even more importantly do you have any of Craig's lilies available or know of anyone who might.
