This is the time of the year that snapping turtles are on the move. I guess they are "looking for love". We found one in the parking lot at work,on the asphalt, and a long ways from any water source. Down south they can get enormous, several hundred pounds even. Would not want to wake up and find that in my pond

As soon as I have the money I'm getting one.
I have only heard good things about them.
They use much less power than A/C

I know what you're going through. We have had to put 3 basset hounds down in the last 10 years.
All of them were "rescue" dogs that the original owners didn't want anymore for various reasons.
I'm tearing up just trying to type this.
I am sorry for your loss

I f you are referring the budgies? They probably would be fine. I have no experience to base that on but when I was visiting friends in Florida, There is a substantial population of wild ones that were escapees from either the pet trade or private owners. My two-cents worth

a regular barrel will work, but there needs to be some holes in it for aeration. The bacteria need air too or they will die and it will stink

We got the Panasonic TZ3 LUMIX. Recommended to us by a camera "nut" friend.
It is simple to use We are very happy with it.
If I remember it was in the 200 dollar range

This is off subject but has anyone tried grilled beets? They are absolutely wonderful. Just rub some olive oil on them and put them on the grill, keep turning them until they are tender with a fork. Start them without skinning them and when their done, the skin falls off under running cold water in the sink ........to die for

We love gnomes too. o(:-) We have "Sedgewick" who lives in a rock by our pond. We've had him for over 10 years. When we got him we were told that he would bring good gardening luck. Two days later our trumpet vine bloomed for the first time since we planted it 3 years earlier

I have to admit that I thought they were cool
but the harvest was not what they expected
If you aren't looking for a huge harvest then they probably will be fine

Don't waste your time or money. They work but not great, less than spectacular harvest. Our friends did one and won't do it again. It's a novelty. They grew tomatoes in it and were disappointed in the results

Pond Chat / planting help for marginals
« on: April 30, 2009, 01:40:06 PM »
I need help with my marginals. I've planted my lotus and lilies by following the directions here on the forum. They all seem to be doing well. Now I have some others that need to be potted up and put in the pond. Do I use the same manure/osmocote combination that works for lilies and lotus? Is there a different soil I should use? Same kind of pots (no holes)? What about fertilizer? osmocote again? I have iris and taro, dwarf cattails and parrots feather. Any help is appreciated

Chit Chat / Re: I didnt sleep well at the sleep clinic...
« on: April 28, 2009, 08:39:04 AM »
I did the study too. Didn't sleep a wink all nite at the clinic. When the nurse came in in the morning for a 5AM wake up she said I did very well. I told her I was awake all night. They sent a huge report to my Doc (200 pages). He read it and said there was no evidence of Apnea. I still don't sleep well and now take prescription meds to sleep virtually every night and don't like it one bit ,but at least I'm sleeping
