he was back today . green heron was in big pond and kingfisher went flying from big pond during our lunch [and possibly his also] .guess our little place is really ''for the birds'' .

blue heron has been here last two days . just ran it off as it was ogling our comets . there was also a green heron that flew . gonna be a long summer . actually , i've seen the heron in the ditch along road while iv'e been biking in winter when there was ice on any water that wasn't moving . i'd think it would starve .

''kz'' i just remarked about that in another post then found this . our moisture this year up here by toledo is 7 or 8 inches over normal . fields to wet to work in and if something has been planted it's going to rot . i'll hope for better for you folks . .peace

lived here 7 years with just the big pond and only saw two frogs . put in the little pond two years ago and immediately had couple of frogs . last year we had at least three frogs . this year when ice left i netted three dead frogs and there was another that had a fish hanging from its mouth and it died after about a week . i recycled them all to big pond where they soon disappeared . very shortly there were three more one of which was a leopard frog . haven't seen leopard in a couple weeks but hope to if it warms up again . ANYWAY reason i began this is i have never heard a frog or toad since we've lived here which disappoints me [i think] . . . .peace ....... by the way , spring took forever to begin and when it did a couple weeks back the plants grew amazingly fast . now it's in the 50's and raining most days for last two weeks . we are more fortunate than most of the country [ no floods or fires ] but farmers are hurting because of it being so wet . . . .peace ,again [can't have to much peace]

had a 63 [?] plymouth with a 383 and hurst 4 speed . bought it from a friend when he got married and sold it back a couple months latter when he got divorced.........we were both happy with the out come .

i was just drying some dishes and looking out the window when the kingfisher arrived . suddenly i realized it was watching our little pond with the comets in it rather that the big pond . i hated to do it but i scared it away . i thought last week that we were missing maybe a half dozen fish and now i see that i may be correct . a couple years ago i saw it with a bluegill that had to weigh more that the bird did . it sat in the tree with it for a while and then flew to other side of big pond . i couldn't believe it could fly with that size fish and there is no way it could have eaten it . cool bird but i expect it will dine here regularly now that it has ,apparently , started . there are about 12 ponds in this development and about a twenty acre lake behind houses across the road , i don't know why it couldn't have chosen one of them . at least the blue heron has just been flying past and not stopping although i would welcome it if it were going to eat chipmunks like it did last year . . .peace

i'm back!! by the way , we have savio pond equipment which has pump in bucket that acts as filter . i saved an old furnace filter i'm going to wrap around the pump intake this year to keep it from filling with''junk'' . i put that filter in the skimmer basket this afternoon and stirred up pond and was impressed with the amount of ''junk'' that it collected . had to rinse it out about every ten minutes . just thought this might stir someones imagination to bigger and better ideas .. .. ..peace........''her'' husband

checked the salinity , ph, ammonia , etc. in pond yesterday . salt level was half what i wanted . i am stumped by where the salt is going as this is a common occurrence in our pond . no i haven't added water. we were wondering if one could use rock salt or salt sold in stores for making ice cream rather than going to pond store and getting ''pond salt'' . i feel that is a ''yes'' but would like comments from you folks that are much more knowledgeable than i . thanks once again for your help . . .peace

sorry , should have mentioned this about the ice question . the big pond [roughly 100x500 ] is completely iced over with no open water at all . only open water is little pond [10x 24 app.] and that is where ducks were .

last of ice is gone this morning and i had to go out in rain just now to chase ducks away . most of ice was gone couple days ago and the sunlight is making the water go green , i assume from algae growth . i wondered if barley extract that helps in summer would help now . your thoughts on this are welcome and wanted . thanks ....peace

some MAY remember [from my post] that when our pond was first ice free last year it was rusty brown in color and visibility into water was zero . it did clear up nicely after running filter for a couple days . this year when it was partially ice free yesterday it was pretty much crystal clear and fish could be seen swimming about apparently very comfortable . i was really pleased to see it so much better this year . hope yours also looks as good when water is ice free . . .peace

i received a ''la crosse technology ws-1510u-it'' weather station for christmas in 2009 . it was to complicated for me to deal with so it has been sitting in box in basement . i'd like to sell it and thought i'd give you folks first chance . it was $160 new and i'd like $120 shipped to contiguous 48 states . google the phrase in parenthesis if you'd like to know more about it [and don't ask me i am lost with it] . i don't know if this is acceptable on this forum , if not delete it and chastise me . . . .peace
