Ooooh ... I love that lily.

I used the colored lenses from my old pond lights (which don't work & are no longer around) & it kinda worked ..... LOL.

Pretty cool.

154
I love those trees. Trying to get one myself.

Had a seedling that was doing great.

to send me a vivip pad (leaf) or two from a purple like Lindsey woods or Dir George Moore?

I'd like to try my hand at growing a vivip.

Thanks.

I must be blind ... I don't see a snake.
my hubby seems to think its an optical illusion...He thinks its just part of the plant  :-\...He can't figure out how such a small snake could get into a 42" high pool....I say where there is a will there is a way....
Lawanna

Oh ... it does look like one but I thought that was part of the plant as well.

Am I right in understanding that the difference in cattail & mini cattail is the width of the leaves (& catkins , of course) .... & that dwarf cattail is shorter?

It was small, maybe 1- 1 & a half inches, tan, spotted & made a buzzing sound.

Couldn't get a pic ... it was dark so couldn't do flashlight, camera & move rock slightly by myself .... I tried, he hid. LOL

Pretty cool, though.

I'm no expert .... far from it actually ... but since it's a hardy (right?) I, personally, would cut the (dead?) middle out & replant the two 'arms'.
Have 2 water lilies.

That's just what I would do ... it may be the wrong thing, I don't know.

The tag was lost ... so not sure.

So, I should give them a little fertilizer, maybe?

I got a tropical last year that did great.

Well, apparently I did something wrong as I lost it ... it died. Guess it didn't make it through winter.

I did get a couple vivip babies off it that survived (if you can call it that) .... they're still tiny & not growing but look alive.
They have tiny little leaves, How can I get them to grow?

They're in small pots in water outside ... I think they even have teeny tiny little tubers .... do they need to be fertilized? Should I maybe try the floating in a baggie thing? Or is it just a lost cause?

Pond Chat / Re: old bath tub - new water garden?
« on: June 11, 2009, 07:24:17 PM »
We did this.
We found an old claw foot tub, got the type of faucet that went with them & put it in upside down ... hooked a pump to it & had the water shoot out it. It worked great.

We had lilies, some other plants raised on bricks & goldfish.

This year we took the pump out & just have some lilies, floaters (azolla & duckweed), a betta, couple minnows & some rescued tadpoles.
Two of the lilies actually did their first bloom today.
Working out pretty good.

This was early on getting it set up ... we used a box filter.

More frogs...this is a Vulcan frog doing the mind meld thing... you are under my power, resistance is futile, you will be assimilated.

I'm glad someone liked that pic. It's actually of my sister's white's tree frogs, Bud and Gorgy. Cute caption for it. I was surprised anyone liked it well enough to post it. The one on the right is Gorgy, the other, Bud. My sister also keeps some gorgeous redeyes.
Kay

Those are real frogs?

I thought it was a statue thing. LOL

I went out to pond today & there was a little red eared slider in it.

Anyone have one of these show up and stay?

I hope it stays for a while at least. It's so cute.

Beautiful ... How come you only run the waterfall nights & weekends?

Yes Missa it is.  I collected the seeds from Greenbottom wildlife management area on the Ohio river in WV.
I have about a pint of them. I also have about a half pint of what I think from looking at it is nelumbo nucifera seed from a swamp in proctorville Ohio. Beautiful pink.  They are super easy to sprout and grow, just file the outer coat, put them in water and there they go.
I could send you some, I just don't know when I'll be in town to mail them off. PM. me your address and i'll send them off as soon as I can.
Have you ever seen the proctorville lotus Tinkster?  Right after you go across the cable suspended bridge from east Huntington to Proctorville  If you take the exit and turn rt. at the first road you come to that goes down river under the bridge you were just on and look on the rt. as soon as you go under the bridge.  There's very little or no open water just a swampy area where they grow a few hundred feet from the road.
You know way more than I do about lotus.  Eventually I will grow some.
I want to try crossing the two I have. See what comes out of it.

Awesome, thanks.

I see some in a town about 20 minutes from here, we pass em all the time ... I just can't get to them.  Especially now that they've been cutting down trees & stuff in the ditches near where they are.
