Pond Chat / Re: Lily Pics from today
« on: July 27, 2008, 05:01:37 PM »
I'm so behind on pond upkeep....help!!!

I hear you on that one.. I have been so busy with others stuff around the house I let two waterfalls get over grown with plants to the point one of them started draining water under the liner.... I have thrown out 30 large bags of over grown plants, this line keeps ringing in my hear.... If I plant it, it will grow!!!!   This is my third year with the pond.. learned a lot of lessons...   8-)~   ALL your lilies look great...    o(:-)  I think that is all that counts   8)

Here are pics of the plants I bought.  There are about 30 plants.  The only regret I have is not buying more plants from this company.   8-)~

I also received a shipment today of plants that I ordered from them from this sale.  Bonnie, I am so thrilled that I got in on this sale and like everyone said the plants look wonderful and the packing is great.  Both the plants and the packing is very superior to the others I have received for land plants.  I will post a pic later.  Thanks again, Bonnie.

Ok, lets say cleaning out the plant does fix the problem.  What can I do about the excess water that is under the liner.  Looking at it in the light there is a lot of water there.  Will it just soak into the ground.  But with the amount of water there it would appear to take along time.   :(

Ok, in the light of day and with a clearer mind, I think I might know what the problem is.  Early this year I place a pot with some hibiscus planted in it at the back of the large water fall.  Now the hibiscus have done well and there were some other plants in twine in the roots of the hibiscus that have grown out through the rocks around and over the water fall.  I believe these plants have redirected the water and at times the water flow has been slower for different reasons, (lack of pond person cleaning out excess plants) {nono} and the water has dribble back under the spout of the water fall where the liner meets with that spout.  I plan to clean all of this out today.  There is not any hole in the liner as the pond is still holding water.

Pond Chat / Water under the liner HELP
« on: July 15, 2008, 10:00:09 PM »
Just before 11:00 tonight I heard a noise outside and went to investigate.  I heard the pump struggling and the lower pond  appearred to low for water to get into the pump house.  I got the water hose and started water flowing into the pump house.  I have a large outside light pole so I turned that on to see what was really going on.

I had notice the past couple of days the lower pond's water level going down faster than it should and the water level in the upper pond was high.  I thought as the water was being pumped to the upper pond a bit of the water was overflowing and or being redirected over one side of the upper pond as this had happen before.

Tonight after I turned on the outside light it appeared that the liner was closer to the top of the water in the upper pond than was normal.  I poked it and the liner is floating but toward the middle of the pond the liner was deeper.  I went around to the other side of this pond and again the liner close to the side was floating close to the top of the water.  I thought all I can do at this time of the night is cut the water and the pump off till tomorrow.

I called a friend of mine to see when he could come and help me find the problem.  When I called him I told him there was water under the liner and I could not see well to figure out the problem as it was dark.  He ask if there were eletric wires under the pond and I said no.  He was thinking the problem was the eletric in the house was off and I was in the house in the dark.

When he understood the problem was the pond, he began to say it was to late to talk about work that would need to be done tomorrow, in a nice way. Reporting he was willing to come now if it was the house.  I did explain to him how tramatic this is for me. He was understanding and we made a plan for him to come tomorrow to hlep fix it.

Now how could the water get under the liner.  This pond is three and a half years old at least.  We did discuss a number of differ causes.  This has not been my best pond year even before this happened.    :'(

My fish look like that but some of them have the split tails.  Could they be sarassa?  Humm, I am not so sure in thinking about them as they are not quite that red.  Maybe?

Wow, Tim, I see lots of lilies I need.  As I live in Louisiana, I alway feel like the lilies I buy from you and Kat and there is another one I can not think of as my brain is asleep, will do well in my area. Can you give us a list of the name of the lilies in the kiddie pools?

Wakin, Shubunkins and Goldfish... / Re: Vanished!
« on: May 17, 2008, 05:44:33 AM »
That truly is a rare gem of a fish. I know you are heartbroken. But I have had koi just disappear  never to be found. It is very uncomfortable.  I have put a total of 5 koi in my pond.  I currently have 2 koi and a bunch of goldfish. The koi that remain are ugly really.  It is alway the pretty ones that have disappear.  I am planning on adding some fancier goldfish but I am resisting buying koi at any price.
