Hi Louis:
I had never seen Peter Slocum before. Can you tell me more about its habit...I like it, but I'm getting so many of these sunset lilies I'm wondering if its worthwhile and how much it really differs from Perry's Orange Sunset (real orangy to Georgia Peach.
Gary
you know what Miss Piggy says:
"Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder. Of, course occasionally the Beholder may need a punch in the mouth..."
Hey Lou:
it looks like a cold Tropical lily. If your weather is like mine the tropicals are still too cold to get going. I would give it some more time. then again it is pretty horrid and if it is that temperature sensitive who needs it as another hybrid. I've notice the hardies show this type of behavior more than tropicals.
Gary
Maybe too much inbreeding???Did you try to hybridize a lily with its sibling???

Sorry this one didn't work, Louis.
Do ALL the blooms open under water?
That's really interesting. Any idea what the parents were?
Looks like you got a hybrid from non- proven parents?
I think it's cool. It's a mutant!
You've created The Monster of the blue Lagoon.....
Wow Lou, sounds like this one has you puzzled. All the blooms are looking this way and do they open the normal length of time that they should?
Louis,
Beautiful photos as usual! I love Newport watching the afternoon J boat races or if your lucky seeing the old America's Cup sails going out into the bay. There is a terrific bar/restaurant/notel right at the point that is fun to just have drinks and watch the races (Can't remember the name now...I guess this AAARP can formally say a senior moment).

Me, too, Louis! I did many trips during the wild 'n wooly '80's, and still go when I can. They've toned it down these days, trying for more of a family market. But certain cruises / ships are still known for certain types of ... fun
There is a fantastic book about the hurricaine that sunk the Fantome. The Ship and the Storm. Don't know the author, but it's really gripping, and quite well researched - from weather conditions, to the decisions made by Windjammer, to the shipmates and their families. Really eerie to read it, knowing some of those who died were the same guys who grasped your hand while you went from launch to ship.
You can find it used, probably, or even new.
Oh, those are beautiful.
I've be on a bunch of Windjammer Barefoot Cruises, which are on large sailing ships... I want to say 200'-300'. There are only about 100 passengers, so you get to know everyone, and it's all VERY informal. Because the ships are small, you visit smaller ports and see things the large ocean liners miss. Really recommendable! They do the Caribbean.
awesome shots (as usual) Lou!!
the one with the crew standing on the sails is really exceptional!!
do you get any say in your assignments? like at least getting to volunteer for ones that you know would interest you more than others?
Louis, I agree with everyone else, that is sure a beautiful lily! I wonder how you count the number of petals? I'd never be able to keep track unless I pulled them bloom apart.emm
Louis: I never heard of the trick about lighting the glue to heat it up. Good stuff. I haven't patched but I did put in a seam where my waterfall is. I cleaned the rubber with gasoline (be careful) and used EPDM seaming tape on both sides. That was ten years ago and if it's leaking it's pretty minor.
Very nice Lou,]
I have a couple I hope to see first blooms from in a week or so that should show some very good characteristics as well.
Cheers,
Sean
Beautiful lily. Is one of it's parents Rasberry sorbet by any chance? I still love that lily too.
