Found this doing a search for frogs teeth:

 Actually, yes!
Most frogs do in fact have teeth of a sort.
They have a ridge of very small cone teeth around the upper edge of the jaw. These are called Maxillary Teeth.
Frogs often also have what are called Vomerine Teeth on the roof of their mouth.
They don't have anything that could be called teeth on their lower jaw, so they usually swallow their food whole. The so-called "teeth" are mainly used to hold the prey and keep it in place till they can get a good grip on it and squash their eyeballs down to swallow their meal.
Toads, however, do NOT have any teeth.

Frog Teeth

Yes, frogs do have teeth. They are small, cone-shaped and are found on the upper jaw. Frogs also have teeth on the roof of their mouths. The teeth hold prey before the frog swallows it whole.

Hi Louis:

I had never seen Peter Slocum before.  Can you tell me more about its habit...I like it, but I'm getting so many of these sunset lilies I'm wondering if its worthwhile and how much it really differs from Perry's Orange Sunset (real orangy to Georgia Peach.

Gary

Hi Gary,
I purchased this lily from Perry's Watergardens a few years ago. I don't normally like hardy lilies, but when i saw this one, I made an exception. For the first two years it hardly bloomed, then this year it seemed to come into its own. It has a large spread, this one about 8 feet. its in a pond of its own and that pond is partially shaded. when it was in the main pond with lots of sun, it did not do so well.

Right now it is averaging 2 blooms at a time. i have to fertilize it so it might have more.

I only have three hardies, texas dawn, colorado and perry.

its a nice plant and the blooms seem to not open as wide as other plants.

No, I have not been drinking, although now I might have a stiff one.

hi all, i posted this subject a few weeks back when i found three of my nice fish with their heads missing. I searched the pond and could not find anything. This morning i found a beauty of a shubunkin with his back half missing. The fish was still alive and was trying to swim and hide., I netted him out and without really looking at him, put him in the freezer.

Tonight I went out with a very powerful flash lantern and searched the bottom of the pond looking for a turtle and could not see anything like that. But peeking out from under a pad was the biggest bullfrog that I have ever seen.

I quickly grabbed a net and a bucket to hold him when i caught him. I came up from behind him and nabbed him.

I tried to get him out of the net into the bucket but he was struggling too much. I managed to grab him and  lifted him up to put him in the bucket when he bit me. Scared the devil out of me. When I had him in my hand, I got a good look at him. this is not a fish or frog story, he was well over 2 pounds and had to be well over a foot in length.

I have never seen one that big. He extended from my hand to my elbow. Now, is it possible that this frog is bitting of the heads and tails of my fish. I know they will swallow anything or anyone they can get in their mouths. but bite it off ?????

what do you think.  i will try again tomorrow night, he is spooked now.

Hey Lou:

it looks like a cold Tropical lily.  If your weather is like mine the tropicals are still too cold to get going.  I would give it some more time.  then again it is pretty horrid and if it is that temperature sensitive who needs it as another hybrid.  I've notice the hardies show this type of behavior more than tropicals.

Gary

hi gary,
actually its very warm here. the pond that its in has water thats a steady 80 - 85

Maybe too much inbreeding???   {:-P;;  Did you try to hybridize a lily with its sibling???  {nono}

Sorry this one didn't work, Louis.   :(

hi sande, i had to chuckle at your icons.

actually it was a cross between two well established plants - golden west and moonbeam

Do ALL the blooms open under water?

That's really interesting. Any idea what the parents were?

Looks like you got a hybrid from non- proven parents?

I think it's cool. It's a mutant!

hi karen, yes all the blooms open up underwater and then surface. they actually never change shape.

You've created The Monster of the blue Lagoon..... ;)

Wow Lou, sounds like this one has you puzzled.   All the blooms are looking this way and do they open the normal length of time that they should?

hi bonnie, it behaves like any other tropical. only it does not open and close the bloom, it stays this way. and actually it opens under water.

This is one of this years new hybrids. I have no idea what happened to it. If anyone can explain, please do. all blooms look the same. and actually it always has multiple stunted blooms on at one time.

plant is healthy, no snails or other critters. just ugly. even though, i don't have the heart to heave it to the mulch pile.

The white balance on the camera was not set properly, its best to set your white balance on a white card to eliminate false colors.

Louis,

Beautiful photos as usual!   I love Newport watching the afternoon J boat races or if your lucky seeing the old America's Cup sails going out into the bay.  There is a terrific bar/restaurant/notel right at the point that is fun to just have drinks and watch the races (Can't remember the name now...I guess this AAARP can formally say a senior moment).

Gary

Senior moment  8-)~

Me, too, Louis!  I did many trips during the wild 'n wooly '80's, and still go when I can.  They've toned it down these days, trying for more of a family market.  But certain cruises / ships are still known for certain types of ... fun  :D

There is a fantastic book about the hurricaine that sunk the Fantome.  The Ship and the Storm.  Don't know the author, but it's really gripping, and quite well researched - from weather conditions, to the decisions made by Windjammer, to the shipmates and their families.  Really eerie to read it, knowing some of those who died were the same guys who grasped your hand while you went from launch to ship.

You can find it used, probably, or even new.

julles, i have that book and when i started it, could not put it down.

Oh, those are beautiful.

I've be on a bunch of Windjammer Barefoot Cruises, which are on large sailing ships... I want to say 200'-300'.  There are only about 100 passengers, so you get to know everyone, and it's all VERY informal.  Because the ships are small, you visit smaller ports and see things the large ocean liners miss.  Really recommendable!  They do the Caribbean.

hello julles,

i too, did the windjammer cruises. during the 80's. i was on most all of their ships, including the Fantome that sank in 1998

Louis, I agree with everyone else, that is sure a beautiful lily!  I wonder how you count the number of petals?  I'd never be able to keep track unless I pulled them bloom apart.   :o  emm

hi emm,

thats a good question.

what i do is select the pen tool in my graphic program and make a dot on each petal and count as i go.

i then delete the dots,

Louis: I never heard of the trick about lighting the glue to heat it up.  Good stuff.  I haven't patched but I did put in a seam where my waterfall is.  I cleaned the rubber with gasoline (be careful) and used EPDM seaming tape on both sides.  That was ten years ago and if it's leaking it's pretty minor.

Mikey, that old trick goes back to the 1920's.

the kit also has a small grater, like a cheese grater. you use this to roughen up the liner or tube.

patching will work.
the method i use is the old fashioned tire tube patch.

get good quality tube patch kit, clean the hole with alcohol until its spotless. put a liberal amount of patch cement.
then take a lit match and ignite the glue and let it burn for about 15 seconds and then blow out the fire. the glue is real hot at this point. then do the patch. will not ever leak in that spot again.

Beautiful lily. Is one of it's parents Rasberry sorbet by any chance? I still love that lily too.

Maryvonne

hi maryvonne,

yes raspberry sorbet was the pod parent. the donor was a multi pink from last year. this one picks up some of the raspberry colors.
