It's wonderful that you share your eye for beauty with everyone. I can't tell you how much your posts inspire me with ideas for my own gardens!

Wakin, Shubunkins and Goldfish... / My Accidental Wakin...
« on: May 31, 2007, 03:57:29 PM »
In another post I mentioned I had been looking unsuccessfully for Wakins, but then found one by accident in a tank with Sarasota Comets at the local Petsmart.
He isn't very big, only about 3", so I put him in my 30 gallon tank in the basement, rather than chance putting him in the pond.  I have a funny habit of always examining the "death sentence tank" (feeder fish) at the pet store, and saving any adorables I find in there. The 30 gallon tank in the basement is where I keep these little guys.   ;)

Anyways, here he is!  Isn't he adorable?  ;)

I still haven't been able to find Wakins anywhere in my area. Did you order your originals from somewhere? I am thinking of ordering them online, but I'd prefer to have a first hand reference from someone who has already purchased from somewhere. Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

Cow Poo- that must be what my Hosta's have been lacking.  ;D

Seriously though, your Hostas look fabulously healthy; I really love the "Blue Mouse Ears" in your pic. I wonder if all varieties of Hostas are hardy for all zones? I haven't seen those here in Michigan, but I'll be looking now.

Thank you for the warm welcome! Yes, they are poppies. They come up every year, and have been for at least the last 30 years (I have lived on or around this block since I was six). I tried sowing seeds in and around them for various other color poppies a couple years in a row, but they never grew. :-\ Too bad they only last a couple days then they're gone. Ahh well, nice while they last. :)
The old grey kittie is one of the barn cats that adopted us some years ago. He's kind of become part of the scenery around here. We've grown rather fond of him over the years.
I think the small pond in front is a 90 gallon (can't remember, put in 5 years ago), and the side pond I think is 240 gallons? I put that one in last year. Ponds seem to be like a growing addiction for me; I keep wanting a bigger and better one!  ;)

I just joined yesterday, and I have been browsing with awe at everyone's beautiful ponds and gardens/flowers.  o(:-)
I only have two small (tiny- compared to most here, he he) ponds, but they are my passion. But, having near three acres, I hope to finally start excavating this summer for a REAL pond!!  @O@
I am enjoying reading all the helpful info in the posts. So far, I have learned I am quite the novice and I have a lot to learn about water quality, etc., etc.  :-\

I'm going to try and figure out how to posts some pics...... hmmmmm..

Wakin, Shubunkins and Goldfish... / Re: raising wakin goldfish
« on: May 25, 2007, 03:11:59 PM »
I had been looking for Wakins, with no success, but then found one quite by accident in a tank with Sarasota Comets at the local Petsmart. :o
His size and color (predominetly white, with red cap) was near the same as his tank-mate comets, so I'm guessing he was sent along by accident? He's not very big, only about 3", so I put him in my 30 gallon tank, rather than chance putting him in the pond with the big boys. I have not ever seen them for sale here in this part of Michigan (south/east), so I was quite excited to bring him home for only 5.99.  :D
If anyone knows where I can find him some reasonably priced friends, I'd appreciate the info!
