GREAT*** Hybrid Lou.
If and when you name it and propagate it I would like to be the 1st in line to buy one.
Any chance it is a vip to speed up the process???
Once again... beautiful.
Tim

hello Tim, no its not a vip, that would be nice.

i am going to try to get it to have offspring. will keep everyone posted.

Most of my new hybrids for this year were lunch for some deer.
Some I had inside the greenhouse and those are saved.

Here is one that is rather nice. i counted 41 petals. the pads are mottled maroon on green. plant is big, pads are about 13 inches long and the bloom is about 5 - 6 inches wide. this is a first day bloom.

Hi Cliff or Joan :)

gold fish will live a long time. i bought 2 adult goldies over ten years ago and at that time the fish person told me that they were over 10 years old. that makes my goldie over 20 years old. they were bright orange when i brought them home in 1996,  one turned a pure white and the other is a ragged looking orange and white. I lost the female (white) last year to an unknown problem, and the male is still with me. he is around 20 inches long and very fat.

Hi Everyone,

thanks for your compassion. its fun living in the country. i just went out to the pond to take some photos and i found 3 dead fish with their heads missing. could be a raccoon or weasel. time to dust off the old Remington :)

Now i have transferred that song to your heads so i can clear mine.

Sorry I have not been posting any photos this year. I have had a battle with Mother Nature.

First of all its been very cold for June, the coldest on record. last night it went down to 42 F.

then I have been attacked by all sorts of creatures, big and small. before i had a chance to put my waterblaster up, I had a deer attack and they destroyed most of this years new hybrids and some of my old established plants.

Then a few weeks back, a small black bear made its way into my larger pond looking for something and wrecked most of the plants. they will come back, but it will take time.

Then there are the neighbors from the big city and their dogs. They feel that its a God given right for dogs to run loose in the country, gonna get a cattle prod, not for the dogs, for the neighbors from hell.

Nevertheless, here is one of my favorite plants, Its called Aquarius, I believe created by Patrick Nutt. Its a stunning plant.

I will try to post more, maybe one of me attacking the neighbors :)

Hey Lou:

I agree it's a war, i.e. just when you think you've one they attack with a vegence!  My copper trellis and netting seems to work on the major ponds and some containers.  However, they occassionally pull the net off the containers and get a lily or 2.

I'm tempted to pay my neighbors kids to shoot them with their paint balls...at least I would know which deer is eating all of my flowers! @O@

thats a clever idea, what then??

Thanks everyone!

Louis, I feel your pain, the hardies are blooming 3-4 weeks later than usual so I suspect you are in a similar boat.  I hoped in this weekend and it was just starting to warm up.  My Perry's Fire Opal, Mayla and atopurpta are all showing cold with their damaged leaves from the cold nights we have had!

Here is a new lily for me called Dallas.  Not sure if I like or not yet.

Gary

hi gary,
thats a very nice plant. looks a lot like colorado. i was in the pond today and the three hardies that i have, texas dawn, perry slocum and colorado and doing good with buds coming up.  water is still around 70

I live on a lake, and my pond is about 50 feet from the lake, visualize that. every so often i have to draw down my pond to catch alien fish that somehow get into my goldfish/waterlily ponds. i assume some eggs come in via the water that i use to top off my ponds. i pulled a 9 inch small mouth bass out of the pond last summer when i noticed that a lot of small fish were missing.

alien fish in a gold fish pond is a disaster, imho.

first of all i must say that the photos are outstanding. its difficult to photograph white and get good details in the whites.
and secondly, the flowers are super.
nice job.

Pond Chat / Re: I have a hard time taking pics of white flowers
« on: May 11, 2007, 06:39:59 PM »
The two most difficult colors to photograph are blue and white. digital cameras will always inject some red into blue plants. to get the most accurate blue, you must use your graphic program to eliminate the red.

as for the white, most difficult. you must underexpose by at least 1 + 1/2 stops. white fools the cameras exposure meter and automatically sets the camera to over expose. if you use a polarizer to eliminate the water glare, it must be a circular polarizer for a digital camera.

now on the camera settings, use manual if you are familiar with it or set the camera to aperture priority. set the aperture as high as it can go and still give you a fast enough shutter speed as to not cause blur. a f-stop of f-11 or greater will give you most depth of field and hence a sharper image

have i confused you?

hi Louis:

Terrific photos, some of the pictures of Clinton make me believe he is sincere and honest and of course he did not have sex!!  Aretha's and Willie's photos are excellent.  I especially like the black & white contrast.  However, some of BB King photos are really grand!!!

Thanks for sharing...are these going into mags?

Gary

hi gary,
some have gone into magazines but they are mostly for the theaters portfolio and of course my web site.
its truly a blast to meet and photograph these icons.

and clinton was the nicest, most polite person that i have met in a long time. he was dripping with charm.

thanks for the comment.

hi lorraine,
i do have more and will post them from time to time. i dont want to change the subject matter of the forum.

thanks,

Really cool photo Louis!  Now do you have any more photos of BB King!!!!

Gary

Hi Gary, strange you should ask. i found a compact flash in my camera bag from the time last year I photographed Mr. King. I have about 30 more un published photos that i am working on.

here is a link to my palace web site where you can see more of BB and also some of the other performers that i have had the privilege to meet and photograph.

let me know what you think of the photos.

Hi Everyone, thanks for all the nice words. Photoshop is my graphic program of choice, but all i did in Photoshop was to resize and crop, it was as you see it. most of my processing takes place in a program called Capture One, where i actually "develop" the raw image

thanks,

I am glad the forum is getting back in order, thank you Sean for staying and thank you Jerry for your patience.

I was commissioned by the church congregation to take an unusual photo of their newly restored church. the church was built in the middle 1770's. its a beauty. it just went through a total restoration. the steeple was in danger of falling.
I hope you like it.

Peace.

Hi Lou,

It is beautiful. I like the color!

You said, "as soon as the sun came out the temps went to the high 90's." Is that the air temperature or water temperature?

Thanks,

hello dave, the air temps went to the high 90's and the water is steady at 90 degrees F. the lilies love that.
