rode the bike this morning which makes 150 months in a row that i've rode on the first day of the month . that's in nw ohio not tampa so occasionally the weather is not ideal for biking . when i came home i found a frog sitting next to a lily blossom and took his picture . i also turned 71 today . i have the getting old thing down well i just can't seem to get the growing up thing down . that may be a blessing ....peace

Pond Chat / Re: Question for those with savio skimmerfilters
« on: May 31, 2010, 11:19:58 AM »
daily and sometimes twice a day . i find small particles get past filter and plug pump which needs to be removed and cleaned at least weekly . if i were in the market for pond equipment i'd have to do more research before buying one as i don't know if there may be a better option .

just read you replies[thanks] . i have a ''savio'' skimmer/filter plus a savio waterfall that contains a filter and a savio pump . also use an ''oase'' vacuum [i think jerry's recommendation or maybe ''jules'' , actually i don't remember ] . 4 water lillies , 1/2 dozen boggy type plants and at last count 11 comets ,down from 16 last month due to predators . thanks again and bare with me as i have a horrible disposition . oops ! forgot the 2 or 3 frogs which appear to have moved in again . also pond is just over 2500 gallons .

in searching the computer for a solution [no pun intended] to solve my problem i came across to many to make a wise decision , i did ,however , find a good idea . i went out and got a glass jar [uh, are plastic jars ''jars''?] of pond water and found it to be crystal clear . pond is still growing algae like it was a professional enterprise .

swore i'd never post on here again but here i am . now that days are sunnier and hotter our water is getting green and yucky . i won't tolerate this again this year and would welcome suggestions . my second thought is to throw in 5 gallons of bleach . my first thought is to put about 5 pounds of c4 in pond and ignite it [ and maybe 50 pounds in house so waterfall would be more visible from the street] . .thanks .......peace

i've heard of brown water in ornamental ponds but it's the first time i've seen it . it was brown and now it looks like someone poured a 55 gallon drum of rust in it . it has some problems but ammonia , nitrite , and nitrate are zero , ph is 8.8 , salinity is .02 % and temp is 58 [ yesterday 46 ] . filtration isn't on yet but with temp rising and fixing a minor cosmetic problem in next couple days it should be by first of week . the fish don't seem to be bothered by it ,the want to be fed , but it bothers me a LOT . leaning toward filling it in and planting a garden ......peace

Pond Chat / pondovac3 trial run
« on: March 25, 2010, 07:16:44 AM »
pondovac has been setting in basement since last fall . i tried it yesterday for first time . initially it would suck and then stop [kept running] and being familiar with point wells i thought there was an air leak . i hadn't turned fitting for intake hose into the vacuum tightly enough . i think if you have a problem that would be a good thing to check . after that it worked fine , maybe to well . we have pea gravel in the shallow part where we set plants and it sucked up quite a bit of it . any suggestions to stop that would be appreciated . i'm going to have to look more closely at inside of vac as i can't figure how debris is getting through the sponge filters . i think it must bypass them because i was getting leaves ejected from discharge hose . . .incidentally , local pond store is selling them for $250 and i paid more from webbs which had lowest price at that time. . . .peace
