LeeAnne- That's nice of your hubby.  I'm not a cat person either.  I wasn't sure about the dog, but the opportunity was there.

Thanks everyone.  He's a great dog.  A little smelly, but great.  Actually, very smelly.

1982 Grand Prix Brougham.  I bought it for $700 from my cousin.  Worst investment ever.  Windows wouldn't roll up.  It would always overheat.  Chicks didn't dig it.  :'(

He's 1 1/2 years old and well trained.  I like it that way.  Then again, I've never had a puppy.

This is great.  You really go all out in everything you do.  That's nuts.  Not bad looking friends.

His name is Chesty "Willie" Puller.  He is my first dog. @O@  As a kid, my mother would not allow dogs.  To this day she hates them.  I don't know why, but she does.  Well, since the Marine Corps, I've wanted an english bulldog.  Here we are.  He's a handsome lil guy.

I have so much to learn from you.  Well done (as always).  I understand about brothers not accustomed to hard labor.  It's like pulling teeth asking my brother to help with anything.

Thanks everyone.

Camper Man:  I used a different filter for two reasons.  1. I didn't like it visible. 2 I was cleaning that filter 2 or 3 times a week.  This filter requires a back flush.  I don't mind that.

Marla:  It is 3 ft deep with shelves 1 1/2 deep.  9ft long and 8ft wide.  It was previously 18in deep.  The koi love the extra space.  I can't wait to fill those shelves with lilies this spring.

I'm a big fan of waterfalls and your waterfall is fantastic.  Your pond looks like something out of a magazine.  Good job.   O0

I notice your from Arizona, how often do you have to add water to your pond?

Every week.  I'd like to install a leveler.

Pond Chat / It's getting warm
« on: January 09, 2009, 06:14:52 PM »
We have a warm front here in my neck of the woods (Buckeye, AZ).  I'm thinking about placing my lilies in the new pond.  I know as soon as I do, BAM, cold front.  It has been in the high 60's to low 70's.  What do you think?  Is it a risk?  I'm scared. :-\  ;D

I like your honesty, reddad.  We need more of that on this planet.

I remember this post from awhile ago and I too would like to make my own.  I too would be sketchy attaching it to the liner.  I thought about a type of rubber gasket around the opening and sandwiching with liner with another gasket.  Link the gasket together with clamps.  Instead of a rectangular opening, a large cylinder pvc.  How wide is your opening?

I was searching DIY skimmers and I like this set up.  Reddad, do you have picture of your skimmer in your pond?  Did you attach it to the liner?

So do you have them in or out of your pond?  I'm interested in elephant ears.

I agree with Joyce.  Cichlids are very territorial.  I had a couple and they died once the weather dropped.  My koi would stay away from them.

I kick pond booty!!!  lol  I like the sound of that.  It really is missing the plants around it.  Thanks.

I feel you on the digging part.  I just dumped about a ton of dirt and cement.  If I could suggest something, it would be to make shelves for plants.  You could stop digging and go wider with the 4x4s.  When spring comes around lots of people will be selling plants for a great price.  Trust me on this.  Water lilies are addictive.  Thanks for sharing and welcome.

Thanks everyone.

Day 4

Finished.  I filled the pond and connected everything.  Turned on the pump and LEAKS everywhere.  So I got busy finding them and took care of them.  The waterfall was leaking from different areas.  So I mixed more mortar and filled the cracks.  I also adjusted the liner under the waterfall, just in case there is a leak it can be guided towards the pond.  I have to say, the pressure filter isn’t what I thought it would be.  I’ll give it try though.  I drained the pond and refilled it adding beneficial bacteria, chlorine remover, and pond salt.  My koi are in there now and they are enjoying the extra space.  All is needed is plants around (dirt areas) and in the pond.  I think I’ll wait till spring.  Also, the lights need to go in.  Here’s the product.

P.S
Don't hire any 2 year olds for help.  All they do is dance and horse around.

Today was day 3.  I’m feeling the effect of the hard labor.  Everything is level.  The bottom of the pond was lined with some linoleum I had left over.  I don’t think any rocks will poke through that.  I lined the pond and began work on the waterfall.  Everything was going well, until I began filling the gaps.  I used foam and mortar.  I personally like using mortar, so I tried both.  I tried everything possible not to get the foam stuff on myself, but I magically did.  Tomorrow I will cap everything and dress it up.  I also have to find a home for all that dirt.  The waterfall looks a little rough right now, but it will look better tomorrow.  There is rain in the forecast and I hope we don’t get any of that.
