The site looks as great as I would expect, and the photos are exquisite!

I love the theater pictures. It is very cool to be able to look around like that.

I'll let you know of any new intros they have. 8)

joyce, this is the place i buy from, they are a bit pricey but they have outstanding stock.

hello sheila, thanks for the info on the hibiscus treatment.  i will try that this spring when i get new plants. i have animals in the house, so treatment other than water spray is not an option.

I just visited your site and I agree with everyone.  Very good job there!  I'd like to know how you did the home page pic.  Is that a java program to get the 'water' effect?

thank you so much for your comment. the home page is a java applet. it has a tendency to slow the page down a bit, but i like it a lot.

Lovely website and fabulous photos!

I have found a product that controls the white flies quite well on hibiscus if you ever want to give them another try. It is a granular systemic that you just put on the soil and it's good for a year. Works on just about every sucking insect EXCEPT spider mites.

hello sheila, i fought the white flies with every method i could find, lady bugs, praying mantis, alcohol on a swab. i just gave up. they sucked the life out of the magnificent plants.

i am going to try some more this spring and i will try your product, will you give me info on it. thanks.

Just beautiful Louis, of course your photos are always wonderful, I could look at them all day.  I would love to see more added to the New York City group.  I am inspired by the barn photos.  We have an old barn on our property that is falling down and in really sad shape.  We have lived here 15 years and I have never taken a picture of it, just always thought it was in deplorable shape and needed to be taken down.  As soon as all of this ice and snow melts, I am going to take some pics and see if I can find some beauty in it.  Thanks!
Karen

hi karen, these new york photos were taken shortly after 9/11. its difficult to go places with the helo to get some good shots. most time i have a passenger with me and they don't appreciate me flying and hanging out the window at the same time.

Louis,

There is no better photographer in the country than you.  You ROCK!

Your website is also one of the best designed and executed I have encountered in 10 years of surfing the web.  Good job!

BTW, Nice use of the lake applet!

hello john,

thanks for the nice words.

Pond Chat / Re: What Lilies Are On Your Wish List This Spring ?
« on: February 17, 2007, 06:14:34 AM »
I would like to have one of everything. i have a 1000 acre pond at my door step and would like to fill it from shore to shore with lilies. :)

i, have in the past put some spare tropicals in tubs a few feet from shore and they never did good because of the rough water caused by the boaters. i did have one of the local DEP guys get so excited when he saw a blue lily, thinking it was a hardy.

I would really like some of the winch lilies when they come available.

I have some new hybrids this year that look promising. some with solid maroon pads which look striking. we'll see what happens.

Hi Lou,

I love John's N. 'Brooklyn Blue', was he ever able to propagate it? I asked him quite some time ago to grow one out for me if he had a chance. I don't know if he remembers.

Cheers,
Sean

hi sean, i really like John's Brooklyn blue. i got mine 2 years ago and he had a decent supply of them. i can check for you when i go down this spring.

Its a big plant with lots of large blooms. blooms stay open from 1000 till late in the afternoon.

I agree that the laura frasse photo is not correct. blues are the most difficult lilies to photograph. i know i have some nice photos of Laura somewhere, but could not find them. here are some nice blues, in order:
Blink by John Meeks , Brooklyn Blue, by John Meeks, Pamela and William McLane..

Best luck with the hybrids Lou O0

I just started a new batch of seed here under my computer yesterday and had a few that I started a few weeks ago. I am seeing underwater rosettes for the ones I started a few weeks ago and should have germination from the new batch in a few days.

Cheers,
Sean

i really like doing this. it fun to see what developes. i just checked on the seedlings and they are happy as clams.

Spring seems to be here on the Wet Coast, all my plants are growing and trees are breaking bud. The clematis is budding and the daylilies are growing.
I have also noticed my waterlilies are beginning to send pads to the surface.

Cheers,
Sean

hi again sean, we are in the midst of a huge ice storm. spring is only a hope at this time, although my new hybrid seedlings are doing quite well in the basement with pads about 4 inches and going strong. i will put them in the greenhouse next month.

Hybridizing How To's... / Transplanted some seedlings today.
« on: January 23, 2007, 03:00:17 PM »
I spent the afternoon, making a mess of the kitchen, with dirt all over the place. oh well  ::)

Transplanted some of the 7 year old seedlings and also some from crosses from last summer. all are doing well, sorry no pics. transplanted them from their 1 inch square sprouting containers to 4 inch pots. i now have there 45 gallon containers working in the basement.

i have a wonderful strong bunch of seedlings from a cross between my "hot pink" and "moonbeam", pads are all over the lot, from plain green, to all maroon and of course the required, maroon streaked on green.

this is fun.

hi craig, gosh, those are very nice. so good to see them this time of the year. our weather is crazy, it was in the hight 60's 2 weeks ago and now as we speak, <well, i am the one talking> its a whole 4 degrees above zero.

hate this stuff, however, i was just down the cold basement and the new hybrids are doing nicely sending up pads that are about 3 inches long.

keep the photos coming.
