Praise the Lord indeed Esther! I'm so happy to hear the cancer has not spread. Bless his heart, I can't blame him for being cranky. Combined with his illness, he's got to be scared and doesn't understand why all this stuff is happening to him.  Keeping y'all in my thoughts and prayers.

Kim, I am so touched by your kindness and thoughtfulness. If the world had more souls just like you, it would definitely be a much better place. You are truly a good neighbor!

Jen, I haven't seen any babies in the lily pond and I really don't think the babies would have survived. I kept the Colorado in the bathtub for a couple of days after I got home before the weather warmed up enough to put it in the pond.

LeeAnne, I was rooting for Melinda since the auditions. I was so bummed out when she got booted off last week. Melinda, Lakisha and Jordin are my favorite as far as the girls. I really liked Phil, the sailor, I just can't get into Blake, but I can see why he's so popular. He is very different.

Thanks everyone! I spend a lot of time outside piddling on the ponds. Jen, it is your turn for a visit you know.  ;)

Great pic! I love the dragonflies too. Haven't seen any yet this year, but they were all around last year.

Yes, it's the 1st time I've seen him this year. I have a bullfrog that lives in my smaller 120 gal pond, but this one is bigger.

Yes, it's one of the new tropicals that I bought this year. The other is Queen of Siam, but it doesn't have any buds yet.

I decided to go outside tonight after American Idol to sit by the pond. Chelsea, one of my shih-tzus wandered over to the pond, and all of a sudden, I heard a big splash. Looked over there and saw this big frog swimming to the other side. Seems Chelsea had invaded its space. Anyway, a few minutes later, I saw him again, this time sitting underneath one of my angels. Of course, I had to take a couple of pics to share with everyone.

I love miniature roses, but haven't had much luck with them either. Yours are beautiful! I had a beautiful trailing yellow miniature a few years ago, but when I cut it back because it was going haywire, it died.  :'(

Gorgeous pics, and look at the pads! That lily does look a little yellow, is it not supposed to be? Your taro leaves are a lot bigger than mine.  I ended up putting my taro in the raised garden that Richard built for me at the end of the pond. It's doing much better. It's put on 2 more leaves since I took it out of the pond.

I'm so happy! I have my first Surfrider lily bloom today.

This is the 2nd day for the Attraction to be blooming. GaJen gave me this lily when I was down at my dad's back in April. The lily itself was huge and I was able to get 5 divisions out of it. I have 2 more buds on this same plant that are almost ready to bloom.

Both of these are in the lily pond that's in the front yard. Richard and I redid over this past weekend, drained it and added some new liner. Thank goodness the water isn't between liners anymore.

Luckily, it's been over a week now since I've seen the snake. Only saw him once last year. I have 5 shih tzus that guard the yard, heck they chase off the birds and squirrels. A couple have even chased the frogs into the pond at night. Now that was a hoot to watch! Hopefully the snake has decided to find another home.

Greetings Bullfrog! Nice to meet you. I think you'll really like it here. A lot of great people with lots of excellent advice. You're right about the frogs finding the ponds. I put my 1st small preform one in 2001 and I've had frogs ever since. Most of mine have been bullfrogs, and I've even had a few tadpoles to make it to adulthood. Here's a pic of a couple that I took today.

I'm real careful about sticking my hand in anywhere nowadays. Ever since I was visited by the snake a couple of weeks ago, I've been pretty skittish. Even though I think it's probably a garter snake and it slithers aways whenever it sees me and I see it, I don't want to take any chances. He's just one of 2 frogs in my 120 gal pond. The other one is an itty bitty one and really hard to see unless he's sunbathing on top of pond's edge. I've got 2 others that visit the big pond, one's bigger than the one in this pic and the other one is quite a bit smaller.

Just had to take a pic of this today. Usually he's only exposing his head and it's almost impossible to see him.

Pond Chat / Re: muck vac ?
« on: April 24, 2007, 10:48:08 AM »
Sheepie, the weight of the water coming out of the vac does make it somewhat heavy, but you won't be bending over like you do with a shop vac. Esther, I don't see why you couldn't drain the water into a kiddie pool and then pump it back in after it settles. That way you could recycle the water. Worth a try.  ;)

I didn't have muck but had a lot of sand and small pebbles and it picked up both just fine. It's not real good at picking up leaves though so keep that in mind. One thing I do like about the muck vac is that it doesn't stir up the bottom while you're vacuuming.  I also like the fact that it doesn't add water to the pond while you're vacuuming, but you will need to top it off when you're done especially if you've vacuumed a lot.
