Cool! I have lots of hummers too but have never found a nest. I will be looking for one now. I think they usually have 2-3 eggs.

Chit Chat / Re: What do you know about heel spurs?
« on: July 21, 2007, 02:03:13 PM »
I have heel spurs. Right now they aren't bothering me. I have finally stopped going barefoot because that makes them hurt so bad. I wear flip flops even in the house to keep from aggervating them. You can get a cortizone shot in your heel and it hurts really bad but it's worth it. I would try that first. Sometimes they don't hurt for years after a shot. I've been ok for about 2 years now but if I go barefoot much they remind me they are still there and I start wearing some sort of shoe all the time again. The inserts in my shoes helped some when they were really bad. My insurance would not pay for the orthotics. They were about $300.00. If you have any more questions just ask. I've tried everything except surgery.

Pond Chat / Re: Cardboard Looking Algae??
« on: June 08, 2007, 08:34:20 PM »
I have the same stuff on my waterfall. My water has been green all spring because I had to shut down the waterfall this winter when it froze and water was running out of the pond. My fish are doing great and the pond has finally cleared up with lots of filter cleanings and quilt batting. This is the first year I've had this weird looking stuff growing but it doesn't seem to be hurting anything. Must be a KY thing. Maybe due to our strange weather this year.

Sorry about your fish. I have finally learned the only way to get rid of green water safely is patience and quilt batting.

I pinch the dead flower heads on mine until the plants are established. This is supposed to keep the plants from using all their energy on producing seed and allow the plant to grow. I don't know if this is true or just an old wives tale. I pinch the new growing tips if the plants are becoming long and don't have much foilage near the top to try and promote growth nearer the top of the plant. I actually pinch them. :o ;D

Terrestrial Gardening / Re: Has your Zone Changed???
« on: November 19, 2006, 01:16:11 PM »
I think the change is true for my area, W KY. It was zone 6 but is now 7. I have several plants that aren't supposed to be hardy here that survive. I'm still afraid to totally trust the weather though. I still dig a few elephant ears and a few others so I'll have a start if we do have a cold winter. I have had ee growing for 5 years that have been left in the ground with some mulch covering them.

Cool link!
