Ugh.
I have maybe 7-8 gallons in a 10 gallon aquarium for the fry. I check ammonia, take out 2 gallons & replace with fresh water & still have ammonia. I went ahead & added some more water, not quite a gallon.

I really don't want to do too big of a water change.

On eBay, I sold it for $5.00 and $6.95 shipping for five plants but you are a member of AP and all I would ask for is the shipping, $6.95, payable by PayPal.

Cool ... give me a day or two.
I'll let ya know.

Missa I think you are thinking about crushed Ice sag. it has a white with yellow center bloom and is above the water line...I think Scott hit it right on-I think the 2nd one is a val. those curly stalks and blooms are right on for a val.
Lawanna

No, that's doing good, growing well.

Missa, Spatterdock can be planted in a pond like water lilies. I have proof. I have one and it bloomed last year. Which floating heart did you have? I might be able to get you some.

I think Joyce was close on the second one but instead of Sagittaria, it's Vallisneria because it looks a lot like the flower stalks for my eel grass.

If you saw that water lily in the wild, then I don't know. N. mexicana grows wild in Florida but it's blooms are yellow.

I'm not sure, I don't remember.
I just got it last year from Tranquility.
I think it bloomed yellow but not gonna swear to that.
She called it variegated.

Can spatterdock be planted in a pond like lilies?

If so, I may have to keep my eye out for some.

Think I lost my floating heart.  :'(

The only green water I have is in a lotus tub that I put Cutter backyard mosquito control tablets in about a month in a half ago or more.
I then put fertilizer in for the lotus seedlings & the water turned greenish.

I don't know if that should be used or not.

I did put a small bit of string algae in & there's some on it. I can't tell if they're eating, they're so small. I also tried a small pinch of ground flakes & koi food, again I can't tell if they ate.

My koi have never spawned till this year.
I wasn't expecting it as they've not done it before & it was a surprise. So on a whim I decided to collect some of the eggs as they were munching em up & I wanted to see some babies.
Well, now I have teeny tiny little fish in an aquarium & no idea what to feed them.

I've heard boiled egg yolk ... can I crunch up some flakes or koi pellets real fine for them?

Thought about looking for bugs from the pond but they'd be too big or maybe collecting some string algae from the pond & letting them eat whatever may be in it.

I'm kinda excited.

What about false indigo baptisia. Dies down to the ground in winter.
Probably not tall enough though.

LynneNY may the plant you are reffering to is pontedeira..it also appears in the las pic..those are 2 pontedeiras...

Howell - I've not heard of that plant, and a google search doesn't bring anything up - might there be another name for it?

From searching pontederia is pickerel so I think he's not seeing the one you mean. Edit ... Ooops, he posted as I was typing this. LOL

If it's the one I think you mean .... you can also see it in the 5th pic, top right corner .... it almost looks like water primrose to me but probably isn't.

Pond Chat / worst year yet for string algae
« on: May 01, 2010, 10:58:04 AM »
I have never had it this bad before. It is horrid this year.

Maybe the cool weather stunting the growth of the other plants. IDK. The warm then the cool again.

All I know is it's bad this year.

Good to know.

It got down to lower 40's probably.

« on: April 28, 2010, 01:07:01 PM »
I started 2 seeds & they were doing good. Had 3 leaves each. It was warm so I put them outside in their permanent home, half a 55 gallon barrel.
It then dropped & the temps got cool for while, now it's fluctuating temps. They got stunted or something. The leaves are still there, small but it hasn't done much else.
Will they be ok & spring back when it gets warm or am I gonna have to start over?

I ran across this one somewhere on the net, I believe.

Terrestrial Gardening / Mint
« on: April 22, 2010, 12:40:29 PM »
I didn't know mint was like this when I planted it. I put it in with some cannas. The mint has gone nuts & I don't see any sign of life from the cannas.
Could the mint have caused this or did the cannas just maybe die? We did have a bad ... cold, wet, snow, ice .... winter this year & where the cannas are it can stay pretty wet.

Already made that mistake with mint. LOL
Hopefully ajuga will do ok in clay soil. May have to move the rock mulch though, we'll see.
