Pond Chat / Re: ~ CAN'T GROW waterplants in this POND ?!?!? ( HELP )
« on: April 19, 2011, 08:47:08 AM »
Sounds like the pea soup is getting all of the nitrogen and other fertilizers. Sounds like it does not need any Koi in it either. Is she planting her lilies in soil and using plant tabs or something to fertilize them with? I do know that water lettuce and WH sometimes are hard to start in a full sun pond. Once they get going though look out.

Well I was sure I lost all of my plants because I did not cover my stock tank this year. I was throwing out my pots a couple of days ago and my King of Siam had little green pads all over it. maybe 6 or more crowns sprouting,, Also a couple of others. So maybe I have a few more I dont have to replace;. I have not checked the lily pond yet its full of leaves and needs cleaned out and I dont know what I will do with all the fish. I know that Miami Rose and Pink Flamingo and black prince are still in there and they usually winter over but you never know It is Oklahoma after all and not the south.

I am getting where I am not able to take care of it. There is just too much work for me. I am not in the best shape and working nights standing at the casino is taking its toll on me.

I was one of the lucky ones and got mine. Let me tell you this is a huge lily the pads are over 18 inches long and I have only fertilized once this year.

Pond Chat / Re: Is this normal for tropical lilies?...Kat?

vivip babies started from leaves are hardier than the parent plants here in Oklahoma. I always had tons of lavender lace and Tina when I first started playing with tropical water lilies. I had so many that I would leave them out over winter and the babies always came back but not the parents..I nver did get a vivip baby on my blink at all.

Pond Chat / I pulled some tropicals out of the stock tanks 4 days ago
« on: January 30, 2010, 01:30:37 PM »
The water still had ice on it. I had left some lilies out. I tried to make a greenhouse but it fell down. I dont know what the other lilies look like. They at least have some protection. These are Pink Flamingo and Black Prince. There are 11 tubers and all are sprouting. They started sprouting 2 days after putting them in warm water with a light.

Pond Chat / Re: Craig, and others- tropical lilies question
« on: October 22, 2009, 11:54:34 PM »
Lol...didn't say they wouldn't survive Gander, but it is a case of 'you pays your money and takes your chances'.

Yeah Craig I did not leave most of them out on purpose.  Well the first time I did it I left out maybe 20 or 30 4 inch pots of vivip starts. I was surprised when I walked by a kiddie pool and had leaves floating one day late in the spring. I live in Zone 7.  The next time I left some out by mistake because they got knocked out of their pots and I found them when they started to sprout leaves. last year my father died when it was time to take them to Lawannas and I just did not care very much at the time so she came and took them to her house for me. We just did not get them all. So this year I am building a greenhouse over the stock tanks and  heating the water to see how it goes. I might lose them but if I do I will just start over. I really dont think I  have to worry too much though.

I have left quite a few of mine out in the past. Not all have been on purpose. Sometimes I have just too many. Miami Rose. Albert Greenberg, Black Prince and lots of Vivipauras babies have wintered over for me. Oh and Last year I left out by mistake Pink
Flamingo and it wintered over too. This year I am attempting to keep mine at home in a unheated greenhouse with bucket heaters in the stock tanks.

I wish I could get the blue and yellow to come out like that in my camera. I can never take a pic of green smoke or Southern Charm. I like the top lily the best. Well the little blue one is cute too but I am betting it wont stay small.

Well did it grow?

Gary is old and not looking for anyone at all. Now if you have lots of money and by that I mean boll gates type of money and one foot in the grave and the other half way in and no dependents give me a call.

The hard part I have is transplanting them. I usally have 100's coming up in my barrel but I dont seem to be able to transplant them very well. I have better luck with transplanting tropicals than Pygmaea

Gander, you bought it from Waterford Gardens. I got mine the same year, but it was very lucky. A WG friend begged Craig to sell her just one or two. I think she commented how her pregnant friend was dying to get one. ;)

http://waterford-gardens.com/

Kat, let's see, what's the WG equivalent of 'break a leg'? How about 'bloom some algae'?! ;)

Jessica you are right I just found where I had posted about in on Koiphen too. I just looked and they are still wanting $60.00 for it and $55.00 for a Miami Rose. Darn I have given away lots of money if you can get $55.00 for Miami Rose. >:(- >:(- >:(-Although weedy it is still one of my favorites.
