I love the black nose, too...and the black ears!   o(:-)

My first response was, "No, no, no...surely nobody could eat a British White...they are too beautiful."   :'(

Can't you find some ugly breed of cows to raise for meat???   Maybe?   ;D

I have a "Grasshopper" wagon that I have used for years.  It's a little smaller than yours, but I use it ALL the time when I'm gardening.  I'm getting too old to be stooping or squatting very long at a time...I'd never be able to stand back up if I tried that. Of course it also holds my gardening tools, too.  I LOVE those little wagons.   o(:-)

Very nice pictures of the Monarch in its various stages!  O0 I have never seen a green Monarch chrysalis around here...I wonder why?  We do have lots of Monarchs during the year and even had several trees FULL of Monarchs one year when they decided to rest here during migration.  @O@ I wish I had had my digital camera then, but I didn't.   :'(

I do have a egg sac on the side of the house that I think belongs to the big Golden Orb Spider that resides there.  But that's still not a butterfly chrysalis.  :-\ I'm still going to leave it undisturbed.  I like Golden Orb Spiders.   ;)

Those are beautiful lilies, Sav!!!   O0

Apparently Ike didn't bother them at all.   :)

Terrestrial Gardening / Re: Growing Sunflowers
« on: September 28, 2008, 03:28:28 PM »
I don't even have to plant them.  They come up all over my yard from the leftover birdseed from feeding the birds during the winter.  I had to laugh one year because I let one of the plants grow and then it grew into a seven foot tall sunflower with just one or two little flowers on the top (I was expecting a BIG bloom).  It did eventually sprout a lot more flowers on the top and turned into a pretty plant.   ;D

Pond Chat / Re: One day this will be a pond
« on: September 24, 2008, 08:51:54 PM »
I missed this post before, Jonna.  The pond is looking great, and I can't wait to see what your architect has in mind either.  I'm sure it will be beautiful, tho.  You said he usually does pools and chlorinated fountains.  Have you explained to him what kind of filtering the fish pond will require?

Your dream house sounds awesome...$200 property tax and $450 for the trust.  Plus not really needing house insurance.  It sounds like a great life!

It soulds like you had some dangerous people living behind you.  I hope they put them ALL in jail, so someone decent can buy that house.   ;)

Great stories, and I'm glad you guys/gals are all pitching in to help your community.   o(:-)

P.S.  Loved the "Susie Swivelhips" moniker!   lol

 lol lol lol lol

Oops, sorry...I'm sure it wasn't all that funny when it happened, but it sure made for an exciting homecoming.   ;D

Isn't it amazing how the kitty cats love to bring you their treasures...whether they are dead or not.   Poor Willow, he probably wondered why you weren't praising him for bringing you his little mousie.   {:-P;;

I'm really interested in the critter-ridder stuff.  Would it keep the possums out of my cantaloupe patch?  I have something dragging half-ripe, half-eaten cantaloupes off the vine, and I'm pretty sure it's opossums.  I don't mind them cleaning up the fallen pears and apples, but I really wish they would leave my garden alone.   :-\

OMG, what beautiful fur!  What a beautiful puppy!   @O@   I love that curly, shiny black fur.

Congratulations, Jessica.  I think Pixel was a wonderful choice.  (As opposed to my beautiful, huge, white Great Pyrenees who sheds constantly. lol )

I'm sure you and the boys are going to love her.   :)

Wonderful pics of the wildlife and flowers, Marla!  @O@

My echinacea disappeared this year completely.  I'm sure it was crowded out by the jonquils.  I used to have a nice patch of echinacea that would come up after the jonquils died back...but no more.  :'(  Now I'm going to have to find another place to plant some more echinacea.    :)

That's so cute, Esther!   O0

I think we could caption it, "What the heck is she doing?"  (What Braeden looks like he is thinking.)   ;D

Sav, I'm so glad you all got through with little damage (except for the poor trees and your barn roof).  I'm also glad that the weather is cooperating and you aren't suffering with the heat.  That's really good news.   O0

Chit Chat / Re: I could use a few tips on starting the Mantis tiller
« on: September 14, 2008, 02:02:51 PM »
Mikey, the Mantis does bounce on the clay (concrete) soil.  You just have to work at it a little harder and longer than you do with sandy soil...but it will pulverize it.   O0  I bought mine because it is light, also.  The DH has a Troy-Bilt for the veggie garden...although he doesn't know how to use it anymore.    :-\

Get this! The fire chief of Surfside, a beachfront community, took a dump truck (high carriage, four wheel drive) door to door, urging residents to leave - last chance... and this one guy says "I have a kayak". He thinks that if he leaves too late, he's just going to kayak in the storm?  lol
I hope they issued him a toe-tag.  :o

Sav, if that guy is named Bobby Taylor, a picture of him is on MSNBC.com right now...on the images of the hurricane.

The Mantis can even handle clay soil.  When I first got mine, I tested it on the clay (concrete, in my opinion) soil they had used to fill in around the house when we had it built.   It pulverized it very nicely!   O0
The soil in the rest of the yard (that wasn't covered by that junk they trucked in) is nice, crumbly, black Kansas soil.   o(:-)

Sav and Julles, get all that boarding up done.  Sav, get out of there and stay safe!  Julles, I hope you do OK in your safe room.
o(:-) To both of you!  And to anyone else in the area.

Too cool!  Who would have thought that a duck and a dog could be friends and playing together like that!    ;D

Poor ol' Shorty, tho...that duck sure does like to grab his ears.   lol

Ah, Jerry, you don't need a pill to make you irresistible to women.   o(:-)

Seriously, I'm glad you don't have to take the Coumidin any more.   O0  That's good news.

Joyce, I'm glad you're home already (drainage tubes and all :o ...I just don't know about these hospital/insurance company rules nowadays) and I'm glad your Mom will be there to help take care of you.  Best wishes for a speedy recovery and no more surgeries.    :)

That's an exceedingly weird spider!   :D If it weren't for the web, I wouldn't even think it was a spider.

Did you notice it has a "face" on it?  Very strange looking creature.  :o

That blue palm is really pretty!   O0 I didn't know there were so many varieties of palms.  Of course they would have to be house plants here...no chance of growing them outside in Kansas.   :-\

Esther, I thought that too the first time I saw it!   :o

I read somewhere (maybe on MSNBC?) that they were doing to do a movie about Christian and his life growing up with the two guys, based on the book one (or both...boy, my memory is great, isn't it!   lol) of them had written.  That should be interesting.   :)

Oh, Krista, I'm so sorry!  It's really hard when you don't know where they are or what happened to them.  :'( Did she have tags on her with your phone number?  I hope someone found her and will bring her back.  :-\

Krista, a couple of bandaids should fix that nipple problem.  I haven't had surgery, but I could get by going braless with the help of bandaids.  lol

P.S. Good for you for having that surgery.  I have one daughter who really should have it.  I know she would feel better without the weight of those things.  ::)
