Thanks for the suggestions and links! I definitely have to add an Arc En Ciel to my collection.

Kim, that's a really colorful pad!

I have a very small pond in front of my house (I think 90 gal?). I've never had any problem with kids or dogs, etc., but my house doesn't sit too very close to the road. DH called about ordinances and there are none here regarding ponds (there is an ordinance regarding fences though; they must be situated behind the house). This pic kinda shows distance of pond to road, through the view of neighbors yard.
I enjoy mine in the front, wouldn't hurt to try it.  O0

Pond Chat / Re: Red flare
« on: July 19, 2007, 03:52:22 AM »
I really enjoy the color variances of the lily pads in your pond! Which lily has the striped leaves that you can see along with the red and solid green ones? Most of my current lilies start with colorful pads, but as they mature they become uniform in color. One of the reasons I am so fond of my red flare is the unique color of the pads. Since I may be destined to enjoy more pads than blooms, I'm quickly learning to prefer lilies with attractive pads.

Tammy, I still haven't heard from you with your address!! I can't sleep peacefully until I have paid you for the lily! Please email me!  :D

Terrestrial Gardening / Re: Trumpet Vine- doesn't flower
« on: July 17, 2007, 01:45:13 PM »
Hmmmm. I might have bought that, BUT I did completely neglect it for about 5 years and it's in full sun with well drained, not-so-great soil. It was just last year I started trying to figure out why it won't bloom. The neighbor's trumpet vine is in full magestic bloom (just to add insult to injury).
I guess I'll go back to ignoring it. But no blooms = no plant next year, it's got to go! ;)

Terrestrial Gardening / Trumpet Vine- doesn't flower
« on: July 16, 2007, 03:38:12 AM »
I've had my trumpet vine for 7 years now, and it's never had a single flower on it. (I was never warned how invasive it was when I ordered it.) It grows huge every year, and the foliage is very healthy. I've read everything I can find and followed every growing instruction, but still no flowers. I'm about ready to try and eradicate it since it takes up a large full sun area that I could be utilizing with something else that would bloom. Any suggestions?

I have guppies in my lily pool (it's in the sun most of day). It's been in the 80's during the day and 50's at night lately. The guppies are flourishing, plus I have a ton of fry in there now.  :)

Very pretty bloom, I agree it should be a keeper! Hope you enjoyed your day planting, I can't think of ANY better way to spend a Saturday afternoon.  8)

Why do you cover your sunken water gardens? (I'm guessing to keep animals out, but making sure I didn't miss anything.)

Is your pond is part of the tour? Everything looks exceptional. I particularly enjoyed the frog water spill with the tire- very creative!

Too bad such a public pond can't be a showcase.  :(  Maybe you could rustle up a few volunteers from your town to help get the pond into shape. The city might even buy the plants and such, if someone put a plan together and approached them. Sounds like it needs some good bacteria and alot of plant cover.

Your Mayla must have felt immediately at home in the pond!  :)

It's funny, I just received a lovely Dauben all the way from Hawaii yesterday, and while I was planting it I remember thinking, "You poor thing, you must have been soo much happier where you came from".  ;D

Pond Chat / Re: Kid Ponder...Missing!! Update - Eureka!!
« on: July 13, 2007, 05:07:35 AM »
I'm sure it's MUCH warmer where you (lucky gal!), but I was worried about the water getting really warm also (full sun area); that's why I put the guppies in (tropical fish). They are flourishing!
I'm sure not being as warm here is why mine aren't blooming yet, I'll probably have to wait till August for mine to "take off". I've only had one bloom this year, a red flare, but it had a big bud on it when I recieved it from Bonnie (Bunny), and it's in a different small lily pond, not kiddie pool.

I certainly am having as much fun ponding!

Your blooms and ponds look just beautiful!

I was laughing because I have almost the same plastic lawn chair by my lily pools. I sit there all the time (as if blooms are going to just magically pop up out of the water).  lol

Yay! It looks great. When I put mine together (with lilies from kat also!) over a month ago I was as excited as you are. Then the nasty green slime water came about 2 weeks later, yuck. It's all cycled and clear now, thank goodness. Don't forget your oxygenater and floating plants, and add some pond water- all that will help clear/avoid the slimy green water. Members here helped me with that advice while I was having my temper tantrum about green, slimy water.  :)
I have lots of lily pads, but no blooms yet. I also added a couple guppies and rosie reds a couple weeks ago and now I have fry in there too.
