« on: September 07, 2007, 05:07:32 PM »
This may be the first time for this lily to bloom.. every thing as been slow to bloom... I have been watching the bud for more than a day...the bud was fuller and rounder than the other buds... and this morning it was opened fully before 8:00 AM... none of the other blooms were open yet .. I thought this information might help with the ID ..

Pond Chat / Plans for next year
« on: September 06, 2007, 08:12:49 PM »
Yes, the pond is never complete.  I wondered what are your plans for next year.  I am planning to rearrange the pond plants.  I moved a number of the land plants and I am very happy with that.  I plan to put the hibist in the water behind the larger waterfall maybe with a banana tree.  I want the dam beween the upper and lower pond to have plants on it but short plants so maybe I can see the water lilies from the house.  Hope to have the kiddie pond working before the year is over. Depending on how well that works will determine what new lilies I will try out here.  I was very happy with the potatoe vine on the smaller pond but in the long run I would like to have some thing that would be evergreen there one day.

Pond Chat / Re: Pond heater ??
« on: September 06, 2007, 06:23:40 PM »
Thanks ya'll for the suggestions... I just got finished reading the post to Kim's thread on using heaters... I think I will price the water bed heaters and the aquarium heaters ... the winter here rarely gets below 20 degrees .. I am not sure witch of these would be better in a kiddie pond outside .. hummm, I thought this was going to be a really simple thing !!!  but I really want something that will keep the trops alive through the winter ... the god part is the winter here is only about 4 months or less ... :D

I used the regular house plant spikes.. they were sold out of the tomato spikes ... and I added the spikes every two weeks.... I did not get these till mid summer or later.. I had been  using wp ferterizer tabs but the water plant store was out of them this year and did not seem to be getting them in soon enought

Pond Chat / Pond heater ??
« on: September 03, 2007, 07:28:49 PM »
Any one here use a heater in the pond or a kiddie pond to help over winter trops??  As I am in Louisiana I don't know if I need it but I want to do all that I can to have my water lilies survive the winter.  I would like to have them over winter outside too.  Is that to much to ask??

Thanks Lawanna, as you are one of the ones that helped with plants to make it neat ..

mystic dragonfly, I would be glad to share some lilies with you in the spring.. I spent some time in the pond today pruning the pads... lavender lace is a vips and looks like I will have a lot of that lily to share .... it has been a very good bloomer for me .. and from what I could see there are a number of lilies that need to be devided too... I am trying to get an kiddie pond set up with a cold frame around it for the extra lilies to call home .. hopefully I can get it to work right..   8-)~

Love your pond and rock work ... I am wondering why I don't have a strawberry jar ... Love all little frogs too... they have really out done themselves this year... I think they had two mating season this time... every time I walk around the pond there are 3 to 5 tiny, tiny little frogy with each step .. just saw the cat chasing a frog into the pond again... she gets so excited until she is in the pond... then she is mad .. saw her coming out wet.. ::)

Pond Chat / Re: I think I have to many plants (pics)
« on: August 27, 2007, 07:23:20 PM »
Thanks again...  I can say part of the reason my pond has so many plants is Lawanna and Kat.... I can't remember how many plants I have bought from them and others on this list ... We do have a local pond store but I think the best plants came from the people on this list..

Four leaf clover is the hardest plant to contain

Joey, I wish I had know that about the clover and the Bee Balm in my the yard.. the clover is all in the rocks at the edge of the pond.. I would have to take the rocks out to get all of the clover out

Yes, the water plants spread like weeds and in the past I have given away extra plants but I really don't know people in my area that have ponds... I did sell a few gf at the farmers market where I have a booth and sell scented soap and lotions.... I talked with a few people who had ponds or had plans of getting a pond in their yard.. and I offer to give them plants ... I would be glad to trade/give extras to others

This is just my 2 full year with this pond so I am just beginning to figure some of this out.. I hate to pull anything out.. in the winter the pond looks so sad ...  :'(   I can't imgine what it is like to be into ponding in the North .. I guess if I lived there I would adjust  ::)

I do have a number of gf but would like to add some different fish next year but not Koi as I think they get to large for my pond

Myra    o(:-)   happy ponding
