welcome to out obsession !!!  @O@ i feed mine floating sticks they love them...every now and then i give them some treats...you can purchase them in fish food they like veggies and fruits...in winter stop feeding them...i have pea pebbles in the bottom of my pond and i have a fountain with pump, waterall with its own pump(not always on) and a bio-filter that splashes in the pond on its own pump..and they feed off the bottom also....just let nature do its thing as it evidently has already been doing before you moved in....you will have a blast on this sight and learn alot from its members..............   @O@ @O@ @O@   ....lorraine

Pond Chat / Re: How do you hurricane-proof a pond?
« on: September 11, 2008, 04:34:42 PM »
I put everything away that would go airbourne and laid the plants on they're side that were tall...left the ones in the pond that floated..the pumps were on till the electricity went out....took out all the large fish and put them in a small pond with a generator and the little ones stayed in the big pond and didn't gasp anymore after i took the big ones out...i did take the plants out of the pond though when i started catching them after 3 days cause they were hard to catch....but other then that    thats all u can do and pray...make sure you bunch up your plants on your porch and take your bird feeders down and wind-chimes......lorraine    GOOD LUCK.....i went thru katrina and gustav...i'm sick of hurrican season also but we have 3 more  >:(- >:(- >:(- >:(-    doggone months.....

Hi i'm still here.boy i tell you my yard and others infact the whole subdivision looks like a warzone...100 trees alone fell in the sub. after 3 days w/o lights i found someone in the neighborhood who had a generator and a small pond in her sunroom so i pulled all the plants out of my pond and got serious about catching the big ones.they were gasping at the top of the water...i caught 3 buckets full then the smallest ones stayed and did o.k. i gave her my biggest koi plus about 10 other goldfish for keeping them alive.plus i waited in line for 1 1/2 hours for gas for her generator.but w/o her they would surely be dead....i have spent 3 days burning limbs and cleaning inside and out and helping neighbors with theres..we all came together ...fed each other and kept each other company for 5 days in the dark and heat....omg was it hot !!!! well now Ike i hope not....well thanks for thinking of me ..i have gotten my fish back minus the ones i said and they are happy...now just waiting for the pond to clear...we had 90+ winds and it was scary.....lorraine
