I just caught your note about Ken, I just met him briefly at the West Coast Partay, but we exchanged emails many a time.   Truly sad news.

Hey Sean:

I hope Mexico was fun!  Nice Photos I saw both of these in New Orleans and Rich's place near the Flea market.  I was surprised by the light color of Foxfire, but he said they tend to do that in cool water.

Tammie:  You are astute, but I'm not driving another 8 hours (round trip)!

Bonnie You are right we have maintained a cool spring with a lot of rain.  It has heated up and I noticed some fungus in the lawn  from the higher temps.  Hopefully the lawn will dry out with the red thread and brown spot!!!!  Yes initially it will be a vacation house, but I plan to retire in 49 months and we will be there year round after that.  I mentioned to DW that she needed a lufa (sp?).

Pond Chat / Re: Is there a lily with leaves like a snowflake?
« on: May 25, 2008, 03:35:13 PM »
Nymphoides or better known as snowflakes that open fairly early in the morning, and have small leaves about the size of a Susan B Anthony dollar.

Joyce very nice photo, clearly you have the Nymphoides with a night bloomer, which one?  However, I'm really envious of your cool pot, care to share sources?

Terrestrial Gardening / Re: Bamboo Orchid (Actually a Cymbidium)
« on: April 05, 2008, 02:15:00 AM »
Hey Johns:

Looks like you have a Cymbidium.  Since most people on the forum can relate to the true to name Water lilies, Orchid growers did this ~ 15-20 years ago.  So those who want non-named orchids can go to the big-box stores and spend $12-30 on an orchid, but if you want the identied crosses with better characteristics one will be paying 3-4x the price for the same size plant.  Similar to water lilies there are many crosses that look similar so provenance is important to identify an orchid

I mention this since you are trying to identify the specific Cymbidium and just as many people on this forum recommend you should just call it a pretty water lilly or in this case Cymbidium.
