Viv you know that there are those of us out here who do understand what you are going thru with Katie.  It's the hardest thing in the world to worry about a child who is ill or not thriving.  It's not selfishness that causes the weariness and you don't have to apologize for it.

Can you post the link to the photobucket pics?

Please don't leave.   I don't know who said what or when or how or where but it can be forgotten.  I know that I've said things on forums that shouldn't have been said and they were either forgiven or forgotten or just plain faded away . . . . .

I have some dwarf acorus that grows well in pretty much complete shade - its a variegated plant so adds interest even tho it doesn't bloom.  Also have golden club and lizard tail that are doing well in shade.

The nitpicker I have is a long needle like tool with a rough end . . . . pulls the snags to the back side of the knitting so they don't show . . . . .

I have a lovely little pink mini hardy that blooms even in shade and a graziella that's quite tolerant of shade.  I suspect that both might need dividing . . . . . perhaps I can share with you.  You'll have to wait till it warms back up tho cuz I'm not going near the water till it does . . .

Tammie Honey, I'd send you all those rocks in a heartbeat if I could afford the postage . . . . did you get my last box?

Shae the poppy did well in that pond for a long time . . . the blooms got sparser and sparser as it got shadier and shadier and eventually the plant died.  The turtles loved to chew them to pieces tho and that's why Tammie sent them to me.  She's a sucker for a little green shell . . . . .

I'll still have my lilies, but I'll just have them in pots on the patio - the last bastion of sunshine in the backyard.  They'll be right next to the passion flowers that also love sun . . . .

And LeeAnne the raccoons did tear up the pond and the lily pots.  The only lilies that didn't make it thru it were helvola and pygmaea which were tossed unceremoneously in the middle of the backyard where they sat for several days while we were away at the beach.  It was too late for them when we got home - I tried to put them back in the water anyway, to no avail.

I figure that as long as the 'coons aren't in the house, I'm doing good.

Will send out postage in the morning . . . . .

We got that too and this weekend we're supposed to have a couple of hard freezes.  And it naturally occurs right after I put all the potted plants out and DH planted the annuals . . . . haven't had a freeze this late in forever, but we aren't officially past the last freeze date yet . . . . .

Barb that is so cool!  You'll either love it or hate it.  But to give knitting a fair chance, you have to knit a little bit (even just 10 minutes) every day until you get comfortable with it - otherwise, you'll forget how and get frustrated.

I've been a knitter all my life - it's something I am compelled to do.  I know how to crochet and sometimes crochet edges on knit pieces or crochet them together and every now and then even crochet a flower or something small, but not often.  I've had one of Mother's tatting shuttles in my knitting stuff for as long as I can remember and always wanted to learn how . . . . now I'm actually doing it, but slowly (hafta knit a bunch of cat costumes first).

My sister is much better at lace making than I am - she also makes bobbin lace which is really hard.

Here's a pic of a tatted snowflake . . . .

Chit Chat / Re: finally, a fundraiser I like
« on: April 03, 2007, 06:44:58 PM »
The elementary school that the girls used to go to had a plant fundraiser every fall and every spring.  They found a local grower who would give them a great deal on plants - not a huge variety, but enough to make it interesting - and they sold them to the parents directly.  They sold gallon sized perrenials for about $7 to $9. They also sold bedding plants (lantanna, pansies, coleus, etc) for less than the nurseries were selling them for . . . . the school made a chunk of change, the growers made a bit of money and the parents got a terrific deal.  I got painted ferns, trandescantia, salvia and many other lovelies far cheaper than I would have gotten them for elsewhere and helped pay for the gardens at the girls' school while I was doing it . . . . a definite win, win, win situation . . .

Um, that's just going a bit toooooo far if you ask me.  If my kids or my dog or my cats won't eat something, I'm not gonna eat it either . . . . learned that when DH tried to feed the girls hotdogs that were well past their prime . . . .

Yes Shae, that is water poppy.  Tammie sent it to the turtles as a gift several years ago.  I had it for many years, but it decided it didn't like living without sun either and croaked.

I tend to agree that the media does take any issue that has the possibility for emotional response and blows it up a lot bigger than it necessarily is - and they definitely tell only part of any story.  At the same time, this story is probably more frightening because we just discovered that part of the food chain is coming from China and tho this time it's in the pet food, could it be in food for human consumption next?  Too close for my comfort.

And I'm absolutely changing the food I feed my pets to something healthier for them and less likely to be contaminated by carelessness . . . . I agree it may be hysteria on my part, but my babies are too precious to me and my girls to risk their health . . . .

That really sucks!  A dear friend of mine down here had her entire bank account emptied not once, but twice!  She went to the bank after the first time and did all the right things, but they didn't protect the account at all and the bad guys came back 2 months later and did it again!  They did it the same night that her hubby's paycheck was deposited each time.

I hate crooks.
