I've never seen one at my pond (crossing fingers).  I don't know if it's because the pond has steep edges or because there are so many trees around the pond that the herons can't see it from the air.  In any event, I'm grateful not to have them.   O0

Hi, Krista!   :)  It's good to see you.  I hope you recover soon.   :hug:

One of my daughters really needs to get that done.  Her breasts are just way too big and heavy, and a real PITA when she's trying to buy clothes.   :-\ I don't know where she got that from...it sure wasn't from me!   lol

That reads the same backward as it does forward.  The "red rum" was a dead giveaway...you know...from "The Shining."   lol

Yes, I do see why, but I think your white and blue pot is much prettier than the one in the article.  Do you know what it's made of?

The whole fountain area with the hypertufa pots and the bunny is just very pretty!   @O@

"Paper Doll" by The Mills Brothers

I'm going to have to look that song up somewhere.  I don't think I remember it.   ;D

She IS a good momma, and very protective.  I'm just worried because she really isn't a very big cat compared to the 13 lb. Siamese I have in the house (he has no claws, tho...not my doing).  I'll feel better when the kittens are a little bigger and faster and can either run from or fight anything that comes around in the night.   :)

It's beautiful, Gary...as always!    O0  That doesn't mean I want you to stop posting pics of it, tho.  You are an inspiration to all of us.   @O@

Chit Chat / An unwanted visitor at 5:00 in the morning!
« on: June 19, 2007, 10:08:57 PM »
I was sleeping soundly this morning when I heard something that sounded like a cat growling and hissing.   My first thought was "Oh, no, something's after the kittens."  Our sweet little outdoor cat, Miss Kitty, had presented us with five kittens about six weeks ago.  Since they are bigger now, they have gravitated from their safe little shelter on the side of the house to the back porch.   As I was trying to force myself to wake up and get my b*tt out of bed, I heard "Yike, Yike, Yike."   Apparently whatever was after the kittens was a stray (or wandering) dog.  Miss Kitty is a small cat, but apparently she was determined enough to chase a dog away!  @O@

I finally got out of bed and went to the kitchen to turn the back light on and try to see if everyone was OK.  La Niña had heard the commotion, also, so I called her to come outside with me.  After all, a 108 lb. Great Pyrenees should be able to track down and chase off any intruding dogs...right?   &-)  I turned the light on, saw 5 kittens sleeping together in a circle on the deck, and the momma cat was coming back to the deck.  I let Niña out and she sniffed around a bit, did her thing on the grass, and looked at me like, "What are we doing out here at 5:00 in the morning, Mom?  So much for my big, bad watch dog.   {:-P;;

I guess it's up to Momma Cat to protect the kittens unless I buy some kind of cage to put them in at night.  :-\

AH!!  That makes more sense.  :redface:  Yep, you're right, it would probably take the airport people at least six hours to determine that the skull wasn't real.   lol  ::)

I'm so sorry, Kim.   :'(   Losing a child is just terribly painful, but I'm glad she still has the other baby to love.  You and your family will be in my prayers.   :hug:

So it is a human skull?   :o  I think you might be detained more than 6 hours at an airport now.   I'm not sure it's even possible/legal to buy a human skull nowadays.  {nono}

The techer is a cutie! o(:-)

AHA!  Now we know why you're so enthusiastic about this field trip.   ;D

JK, Jerry, I know you think it will be fun to teach the children about ponds, plants, etc.   O0

Your pond is really lovely.  I just love the way the ponds in CA look so...so tropical/green/lush/beautiful!!!   @O@

Funny story, Mikey!  ;D ;D

Geez, the poor little birdie was probably wondering what he ever did to you to deserve being booted out of the way like that.   {:-P;;  I'm glad you booted him gently, tho.   ;)

That's a great shot, Jerry!   @O@  It looks very lush!

OK, you've mentioned the skull before.  Tell us about your skull, Jerry.  :thinking: :thinking:

Those look really good, Esther.  Although the routed letters would have been pretty, the painted tiles really POP!!!   @O@  I think you made a good choice.   :)

Yes, it is amazing what they can do now that would have been hopeless 50 years ago...or less.

I'm thankful Braeden didn't get as sick this time, Esther.  My prayers are still with him...and his doctors.   o(:-)

He's a pretty good-sized skink, then.  I guess they probably set the Have-A-Hart traps (or similiar ones) so they won't catch mice, etc., but will catch anything a little heavier than that.     8)

At least you know you don't have ghost cats.   ;D

Esther, that looks great!   @O@  Did you have a design/plan for it, or did you just wing it as you went?   It really looks as good as any you could buy.   O0

John, I love your fountain...but I really LOVE the "pot" you used to make it.  What's it made of and where did you get it?  It's just perfect for a fountain.   o(:-)

Besides being able to spin around fast, their neck is very long and they can reach most of the way over the back of their shell.  They can take a finger off if you're not careful.   :o

Hi Deb!  I'm glad you're feeling a bit better.  It sounds like you're getting a lot of cleaning/ponding/gardening therapy...which always helps.   o(:-)

Bullfrog, I'm sorry your wife was ill, but glad she's feeling better.  :)

I wouldn't have guessed that a skink would have enough weight to trip that kind of trap.  Approximately how long is he, Mikey?

Beautiful pictures of a beautiful moth!   o(:-)  What the pictures can't show accurately is that these moths are 4 1/2" to 5" across.  They are really stunning.   I have seen a couple of live ones in my life and have one in my butterfly/moth collection that was found dead.  I would never have been able to kill one for the collection.  They're just too pretty.

Pond Chat / Re: Do Colored Scales Regrow?
« on: June 13, 2007, 09:12:43 PM »
Julles, I really don't know about koi, but I did have a goldfish that regrew his colored scales.  I rescued him from my daughter's tank (with her permission), because her Oscar was slowly trying to eat all of its scales off.  The poor fishy looked like he**.  He had lost at least 50% of his scales.  I put him in a quarantine tank with Melafix, and all of his scales grew back...and were the proper color.

That's cute, but Jonna's got a point.  There's no water and very little air in there.  I'm glad you got him out of there.   ;)

P.S.  Can you tell I'm terribly claustrophobic???    {:-P;;

That's gorgeous, Esther!   @O@ I had no idea that a clematis would have that many blooms at a time.   :o
