in order to get a higher flow rate you need a larger pipe. I have 3" pipe for my inlet it is about 10' it has a 3 1/2 ' lift from the bottom of the pond to the leaf basket. My outlet is also 3" that is about 5' long. I have an 8500 gph pump

The plumbing is pretty simple. The 12" pipe that is standing up is the clean out. The 6" pipe is the manifold that has slots cut every 5" half way thru the pipe. On the end it has a 6" -3" reducer bushing with a 3" elbow up with 3" pipe for my inlet. I will use a submersible pump to clean with all I need to do is drop it inside the 12" pipe. this is the link to the website I found for more directions http://bogfiltration.com/making_your_own_upflow_bog_filte.html. It was very easy to make and it didn't take very long to do.

well here is my bog. I filled it with rock today and now it is running. Now all I need to do is get some plants to go with it. I did put one of my lotus in there but I left it in the pot.

My dw does not like to have anything to do with our pond. The only thing she likes to do is sit by it on summer evenings and listen to the waterfall.

I have recieved some lotus tubers but I am not sure when they should be put in the pond. My temp is about 53. I have them in the house right now and they have about 6-8" stems on them.

I hope it didn't hurt anything. I used to get those at my old place. There are not any trees at my new house to drop anything like that. I have had one thru my roof.

This most of the way done with the falls the area in the back is for the bog. It is 7'x3' and 20" deep I am going to fill it 2"- round rock. Then later on in the spring when my local pond store starts selling plants I will fill it up.

I dug it with a machine it is the only way to go. My DW is not happy with me right now because she didn't think it was going to be that big. I got most of the rock layed out today for the water fall. I will finish the falls tomorrow and seal it as long as it doesn't rain.

Is your recipe safe for fish ponds or will the compost cause an algae bloom. I thought I read somewhere that you shouldnt use the compost in a pond where there are fish
