Anyone grow this?
I got some & thought it was full sun but a search yields differing recommendations. If you grow this where do you grows yours ... sun or shade?

I bought a small pot of 5 or 6 different kinds.

Mine are really slow, I just now have tiny floating leaves & they're only an inch or two under water.

Pond Chat / wind & water level
« on: March 27, 2010, 06:54:23 PM »
My water level was noticeably lower today. I checked everything, no leaks, no water anywhere ... but it has been extremely windy last night & today. Going to be next week, too.
So I was thinking it must have been the wind blowing the water from my waterfall all over the place instead of dropping back into the pond.

What do y'all think? Can strong wind cause water levels to go down?

I'd like to try one but it can get pretty hot & dry here & I've read it needs lots of water.

Maybe I'll try to find some seeds.

I have 2 lotus seeds in water that are doing really well. One of them has roots. Will it be ok in the water for a couple more days?
It's supposed to be chilly & possibly rainy this weekend but then is supposed to get really nice after that next week. I just got the tub I want them in put in the ground (not very well but it's in) today & was thinking that if they can hold out till Monday or so then I could put them straight into their tub. I'd rather not pot them up into something smaller & then move them again a few days later.
They only have one small floating leaf each so far ... with another heading up.

Well, they came today. I just wet down some dirt in a pot stuck the seeds in & then stuck the whole pot in some water.

Once they're growing, how far under water should the top of the pot be?

I have a question about fertilizing lotus. I've heard they're heavy feeders. I've also heard people say they use fruit tree spikes & I was wondering if the whole spike is used for a lotus tub (half a 55 gallon barrel) or just part .... Broken up & dispersed around the tub, seeing as how they're heavy feeders?

I'm in Okla. (zone 7, I believe) & I was wondering if azolla will come back here or if it dies away.
I also have some duckweed & how does that do here as well.

Thanks.

I remember reading a post recently, can't remember where & I think it was Tracy but could be wrong, about a robin flying over her pond & snagging a small fish.

I can't find the post, though darn it.

Edit ... I found it, it wasn't Tracy ... it was on Gardenweb .... granted the fish was small.

I didn't know Dauben was a miniature lily.

Is there only one Dauben or is there another by similar name?
