Pond Chat / Pond Vac III
« on: March 16, 2010, 12:27:45 PM »
I did it!  After reading everyone's posts and long research, I purchased a Oase Pond Vac 3.  Great deal from Webb's.  I mentioned American Ponders and they were glad it was one of us.

My pond is due for a vacuum.  The water is clear, but the muck and string algae are quite visible.  Over the winter, I purchased a 55 watt uv clarifier and a huge skimmer from a guy breaking down his pond.  Great deal on both clarifier and skimmer (60 bucks all together).  Every year around this time I feel the pond bug nibbling.   o(:-)

Great pics.  I can't imagine all the time and work that went into all of that. Wow.

We took the inlaws out for dinner and gave them a red envelope.

Wiggity wack or regular type?

I draw an outline of my pond in a notebook and label where the pots are exactly located.  Each pot is labeled, in the notebook, by name.  I haven't messed up yet.  I tried the zip tying, marking the pots, but none of those have worked.  Good luck.

That's a lot of land.  No wonder the heavy machinery.

Thanks everyone.  There are some spots where work has been done to the body.  The hood's vent was spray painted by can.  This will be my hobby for a few years and I plan to do all the work myself (except paint).  Never have I worked on cars before, but these are easy.  Not much to them and the parts are affordable.

The other day, I was driving home.  The car lost all electrical power.  The battery and alternator are brand new.  So, I switched the voltage regulator.  If that doesn't work, I'm taking the alternator to get checked by the business I bought from.

I purchased a 1966 Ford Mustang recently.  I've always wanted this car.  My mom had one when I was 5 or so and I remember being dragged all throughout Phoenix in that car.  She eventually sold it for $200.  Till this day, everyone in the family gives her a hard time about that decision.

I guess I'm trying to relive my childhood, but with more horsepower.   o(:-)

There's much to learn and more to do.  The cars runs like a dream and needs little work.  I'd like to rewire the stereo, change out the distributor and spark plugs, brakes, and paint.  Any advice?

We must be in the same zone.  We are averaging in the 70's as well.  The nights drop to the mid 50's-40's.  The taros I purchased last month are doing well and thriving.  I think I'm all bloomed out.

I'm not a parent, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn....
  lol lol

We take my 3 year old trick or treating.  Personally, I wouldn't allow my son to eat something packaged by someone.  If it were a FRIEND, yes I would allow it.  I don't know anyone that would inject anything into candy, but I do know people with flu like symptoms.

This flu is the real deal.  Parents are keeping their kids home at the sight of sniffles.  I have had 6 students absent on a daily basis.  This is not good.

I would use that.  I use steer manure twice a year in my garden.  Sometimes chicken poo.

Pond Chat / Re: Clay pots ok in the pond?
« on: October 06, 2009, 05:33:18 PM »
You can use clay pots just fine but they will eventually start to crumble apart. The plants root systems will often break them apart too.

Imagine the mess that would make?  Eeek!

I use the plastic oil pans.  They work great and don't tip over.

Both wonderful pics.  The Plumeria is one of my favs.  It is possible to grow that here in AZ, but I've never seen it in bloom here.  A buddy of mine grew his from a neighbors cutting.  I'm going to try the same.

I was watching a special on HGTV on the 15 most bodacious backyards.  There was this lady with 10 or more ponds.  One of the ponds was filled with Victorias.  I thought it was so amazing.  Just as yours.  There were 5 of the 15 yards with ponds.  We're hip with it.   O0

If you don't mind, I'd like some of the taro.  Any type you have left.  I'm in zone 9, so I believe they'll be alright.  I'll send you some tropicals next season.  PM me.

The same thing happened to my lotus.  They were doing very well until the hottest point of the summer.  I'll follow everyone's advice and leave them alone.  I did pot them in an oil container.  I'm sure they ran out of room.  There is hope.   @O@
