Hey Jerry,

Good for you, continue with the regimine.  What are you doing?  I lost 30 pounds since January, not as much as I wanted, but consistent by just eating oatmeal with rasberries and blue berries every morning along with a high activity day.  I may be out in LA in September/October so try to give a long lead time!  Hope to see everyone.

Attached are a couple of lilies and a couple of day lilies with the two toned being my favorite.  Mike Giles cross was called Spikey Yellow, but it is close to white.

In PA I had ~ 1 acre of lawn and it took about 3 years to establish and mitigate the Japanese beetle issue.  However, this does not eliminate the problem as was pointed out by frogman.  However the invasion is significantly less and the plants were much healthier even 10+ years later.

Hi Kat, Nice photos of your lilies.  Have you thought of using a polarizing lens...it would eliminate a portion of the glare.

Just remember there are different Polyurethanes (virtually 1000s)  that have better water resistance than Great Stuff.  However, in my limited experience Great Stuff is sufficient, i.e. is good enough to redirect water spray, etc.

What type of Astilbes do you have?  I just counted and I have 6 separate large peach day lilies growing in various parts of my gardens so trade should be easy for me, PM me ~ October.

Thanks everyone,

@ GTN the creek feeds into the Rappahanock river and then into the Chesapeake Bay so we have access out to the bay at 5' MLW.  So we can sail out with a low draft or retractable keel.  For the winter I put the container pots into the pond and turn the ceramic pots over, in place, for the winter.  Only issue is I have to check for animals in the Spring, I have found mice, snakes, frogs, slamanders, etc.

Thanks Lorenzo, GTN I do get a lot of comments from kayakers from the state park that is on the other side of my creek.  Surprisingly the waterman that bait and catch soft shell crabs also commented on it too as well as a lot of jetskiers.

Sean, I still maintain you get the most out of every square inch of any gardener I know and I'm sure the new pain job will look great!   Matherfish the pot is below the 100 year flood, but that will be the least of my worries if we get one...normal high tide is ~ 4' below.

Always like to put containers out and around the yard, but with high winds and salt water spray blooming has been retarded.  However, I'm trying red crimson this year and it seems to be doing well.  This is perched on a tree I had to cut down since erosion had completely exposed the tap root and was starting to lean toward my pier.

Attached are photos of some hardies that just started blooming.  I also found one of Mike Giles hybrids in his JTP collection blooming today, after getting and potting them yesterday.  Mike I know I said I would post after roots set, but since it was blooming....

Hey Sean,  Nice photo, I guess your heater really works well.  Do you think this is the earliest they will bloom due to amount of light?  Down in my folks nursery in Miami the lilies would stop blooming for about a month (January) and we always speculated it was due to the shorter light hours versus temperature, i.e. pond temperature never got below 70 F.

Nope Mikey, just me changing my email address as my old one will go inactive at the end of the year.  I hope everything is going well for everyone, I've been quite busy as I have been taking care of my mother (dementia is a horrible illness!), getting ready to retire myself at the end of this year, dealing with a college student,  and trying to gasp for air.  Anyway, just happy to be near the end of work-life where i will be consumed with all my hobbies...I'm told I will wonder  how I found time to work!

Cheers,

Gary
