SheilaJ, yes it's a beauty.

Jonna, I'm actually in Houston, TX. 20s and teens is low around here usually but 100 degrees and 100% humidity is normal in the summer.
I bought it along with a whole bunch of other stuff from
http://www.kvbwholesale.com/wholesale/lilies/index.html
I also bought a bunch of stuff last year and this year from
http://www.dutchgardens.com/

Both of them have both of those in early spring.

Look at the difference a month can make.

I repotted about half of them and fertilized them.

This is the result of a month's good growth.

My wife has been looking at various oriental statuary that is made of wood, stone, marble, pottery etc.
Some have been up to $500 dollars.
She figures that if she has Koi she just has to have something with an asian look as well.

We went to lunch last week and on the way home we stopped at "World Market".
It is one of those stores that imports all sorts of items from all over.

She found this little statue. It is 2 pieces. It is pottery that has been painted, finished etc..

The price said $19.95. When we got to the checkout, it rang up as $10.00.
She was so happy she drove across town to get another one. She hasn't placed the 2nd in yet but you get the idea.
It looks perfect next to the color of the jar I bought for her.

Well it has been just over a month since the first post.
I thought I would show some updated pics on the pond and bog which is quickly filling out.

Hope you like it.

Craig has the only official ones. He got them from Winch's daughters.
He hopes to release a few in the next few years if they propagate well.

I looked up N. Black Prince after someone had mentioned it or I saw it on a site from one of the members who sells lilies. It's nice enough but very close to other lilies I have.

Ky Kim, I'm glad you like what I put up here.

On the dahlias. I shouldn't have to. I have never tried them.
I have so many things that are spring and early summer bloomers so I was looking for something to extend the color season other than my water lilies.

As the lily continues to bloom, it gets redder each day and then it flattens back out like on the first day when it was green before it recurved.

Glad you liked the pics.

I had bought about 20 new lilies last year including all of the Presnell varieties I had been looking for the last few years.
All were single plants and I didn't want to take a chance on losing any so I built a greenhouse for the winter.
Nasty storms tore it to heck a few times and I had to recover it.
When we started hitting mid 80's in March it was over 100 in there so I knew it would not stay covered through the summer.
Houston has about 90% humidity all of the time so it gets very steamy here plus temps to 100 degrees not uncommon.
The last storm that basically yanked it apart so that it was inside out decided the matter for me.
65 mph winds did a number on the plastic so I didn't put it back.

General consensus is to harvest when they begin to split.
Around here that is around July 4th.
I would bet it will be in that ballpark timeframe for you as well since we have such similiar climates.

I have seed from about 20 pods from last year that are now abot 6 inch tall plants so I hope to see new flowers next spring.
Did you see my earlier posts with pix of all of the La. Irises that bloomed earlier this spring.
I now have about 100 seed pods. Some look like miniature watermelons.
I have some that are about 4.5 inches long.

Your picture looks something like the description.
Here is the description from victoria adventure.

One of the only two pictures there was posted by Craig. It is too bad we lost him.
He could have told you one way or another for sure.

Nice shots.
Not to butt in but I see one lily in the shots.
You might want to put a few more plants in.
It will help keep algae at bay and give your kiddies a place to hide when it gets hot (warm) in your case, and keep any predators from hanging about.

I bought some dahlias this year for the first time.
I wasn't sure if they would do well in my area.
They are supposed to bloom late summer.
But since we are already in the mid 90s here I got my 1st bloom.
It's a beauty. I can't wait until the little bush is full.

The climbing lily is kind of strange but it looks like it is going to be a winner.
The first bloom is still open 4 days later. Others continue to open.
Each day the lily continues to curve a bit more, the flower gets more red and the stamen get more pollen.
There are at least 5 more blooms on the plant.

Well the reds haven't bloomed. It was actaully the landini lily... a very dark lily that bloomed.
However all of the rain turned the ground to mush. The weight of the lilies broke the stem at the ground.
I did get to take a shot with a boquet look of the Halloween lilies.

My Sapphire Passion Flower started blooming 2 days ago but it was during the rain so it wasn't a good photo op.

Today I got to make up for it.

Enjoy.

Thanks Kim & Maryvonne.

Kim, I have been dividing and transplanting lilies since about 10 this morning. It's now almost 3. I still have about 30 to go.
Once you establish a night bloomer you don't have to buy them again.
I have Woods White Night and Mrs. George C. Hitchcock.
I did order a Red Flare and a Texas Shell Pink this morning from matherfish.
He seems to have quite a few.

I got another good shot of N. Green Somke today.
The flower is on it's way out but I got good light this morning and underexposed it to get the colors to pop.
