Pondering, that is a very nice pond you have :) Now we know what those orange/white/red/ fish are called! I kinda sorta thought thats what they were. Geesh, there are so many :o When I first saw them this early summer, they were all in the grass and very shallow water. I thought they were just babies (Koi), and they were just hiding from predators  o( Yikes, they almost look like large carpets, or perhaps I should say swarms of bees, swirling all through the pond, I see they each have their own groups tho? I might try asking around if someone might like to have a few. I did see and wish I could have taken a picture of this unusual fish. It is a dusty black, about 3 1/2 " long. It swims very fast, and the tail part just swishes so fast! I have tried many times to sneak a pic, but this thing swims like the dickens :o
Thanks Trish for confirming the comets :)

How wonderful to have all those maters  @O@ Do you have mortgage lifter, or beef heart? I have some heirloom seeds too, I should have started them in the GH :( I will have to start earlier next spring :) If you have time, could you please list which ones you have?

Very pretty :) How long have you been growing them? I was given some pear catus, I planted them outside in the garden. They grew for several years, then they were gone, nothing was in the spot where they grew {-)

Terrestrial Gardening / Re: Passion Vine Fruit
« on: July 02, 2010, 05:49:34 AM »
I forgot about the two passiflora vines I planted.  Before long they were climbing all over the fence.  Then came the fruit!  I didn't see it right away as it was tucked away in the thick vines. I was so excited, I was sure it would be yummy. In the morning I got my camera and ran out to take a picture of my prize. Ugh, darn puppy yanked it off the vine and took a big bite >:(-  Then swallowed the rest before I could catch him >:(- >:(- >:(-

Your pond is a natural.  The telling would be the two ducks are so comfortable in it O0 Driving down our road this evening, I saw two tame ducks just strolling up and down our neighbors property :)

Karen, that looks very pretty :) I called about 5 gardening places and no one had those for sale :( I have a bird feeder just for the little birds. With something tall like that, the darn barn cats (neighbors) hide under the deck and pounce on the poor little birds :( >:(-

A few days ago I found one of the pretty Koi floating in the pond, dead :( I managed to get it out with my long  net. Right away I knew it was the work of the darn heron! Two big pokes on either side of the fish! I have seen heron  here two at a time just working the pond. Maybe if I get more lily pads, they will have lots more cover >:(-

Pond Chat / Re: yellow and white!
« on: June 23, 2010, 02:06:57 PM »
Hi LynneNY,
I take all the pond lilies get them ready for fall and put them in the deep end of the pond for winter. Now I know that is wayyyyy too deep, as when I tried pulling them out...most of them escaped ! They were down in about 8-10 ft. of water and sending up pads and flowers!!  I bought an Aquatic Marginal, Rose Mallow(hibbe),' Marvel Mix'
in the fall I planted it in the garden, this spring put in the shallow end of the pond in clay. So far it is growing tall, and has quite a few leaves :) I was sent some Sweet Flag from a sweet gal on here :) I had it in the pond, then in the fall I planted them in the back garden too!  Since putting it in the pond it's just growing away! Hope it grows a little too :) I also planted some ribbon grass in the clay, at the shallow end. I never knew it loved the water! I had always grown in in the garden. Guess we never know until we try @O@
