Strange that you had 2...they are usually solitary.  I've know ponders here that purchase a decoy and that keeps them away because they are very territorial.

Ok...so I've never grown carrots before.  They are beautiful and well formed...BUT too bitter to eat?  One friend said I should be sugar in the bed????  I don't think so...I think it's the heat not the soil.  Tell me what you know!!  Thanks

Pond Chat / Re: Fish death....I need opinions
« on: June 27, 2010, 10:33:00 AM »
So sorry for your loss.   I live in a rural area.  My neighbor to the south had an earth moving business.  Well about 6 years ago he was buddies with another guy that butchers deer and such.  they dug a hole about the size of a small car and proceeded to dump hides, bones and stuff from the buddies business.  I call fish and wildlife...they were no help...BUT the state EPA shut them down in a matter of days.   @O@  The law states the any processing plant must keep records about the disposal of their waste...dumping it on private property doesn't comply it must be a receipt from a  registered garbage dump.  I say call the EPA...get samples from you neighbor's property if possible.

BTW...I wasn't being a busy body.  My dogs found the stuff and started eating it.  Gave them upset stomachs...I had to have my carpet cleaned twice, before I figured out what was going on.  They also tested positive for parasites and that equaled an unscheduled vet bill.  The EPA kept me out of it...the problem went away.  This neighbor would have killed my dogs for revenge, if he had known that I called the EPA.
Good luck

Pond Chat / Above ground pond???
« on: June 19, 2010, 10:12:45 AM »
Ok...so I've been here maybe 2 weeks!!!  I KNOW that I saw a photo stream about building an above ground display pond from landscape timbers.  Not Seans with the 2X's.  I've search-n-searched...can someone point me in the right direction or give me the link.

My BFF has decided she just wants to grow some plants...those I've given her...timber form, liner and pump to move the water.  No fish.  Her DH mentioned buying a preform...I say no...go with timbers and liner.  Our local store sells EPDM 25 mil for about .45/sqft.

Thanks, Deborah    Shawnee, OK

Pond Chat / Re: Snake
« on: June 16, 2010, 09:33:15 AM »
Well the kittens got litter trained and stopped going on their bedding.  The very first night I didn't have a dirty towel to put out by the pond the snake returned...that was Sunday.  She got 2 of the remaining 5 fish.  Returned Monday night and I caught her out there yesterday.  She remembered me from when I cut her tail off and left the pond but not the area.  I got a chance and killled her.  So hopefully the problem is solved.

I did learn that snakes definitely do not like the smell of cat poop!!!  8)

« on: June 06, 2010, 07:21:20 PM »
Hi Missa...I'm in OK too...Shawnee.  My established lotus have 2 buds.  I have 3 that I got from Marie Fisher growing in pots & just getting established.  I have a white one down in the Moon Garden...it grows but has always gotten to much shade to bloom....well over the winter I cut down a huge ash tree to fire wood 2011.  Can't wait to see if it blooms this summer.

Blessings, Deborah
