Pond Chat / Japanese Garden at Cal State Long Beach
« on: March 16, 2010, 08:02:45 PM »
So I decided to visit the Japanese Garden at Cal State Long Beach and took some pictures. Right now none of the water lilies in the pond were blooming and most of the large koi fishes have been auctioned off.  >:(-

here is the website for more info http://www.csulb.edu/~jgarden/

Hey Michelle!

How long do the flowers last as bouquets and do they stay open? This is a really good idea....

Thanks everyone for the info. It helped out a lot. I'm considering buying a metal halide system but it seems like they are pricey.  {nono} and might use a lot more electricity. I'm wondering if a 150 watt would be okay? I don't think I would be keeping that many plants. The other problem is.. it's really hot in my apartment and if I had a metal halide running, I'm afraid it would make it even hotter!

8
wow Joyce.. that's HUGE  :D :D lol how many plants did you grow with that? Lol

9
what kind fixtures and bulbs did everyone use and where did everyone buy theirs?

10
Were they blooming when anyone used the halide lamps?

11
thanks for the replies everyone! i'm so excited about this.  @O@

I just moved to a new apartment and there is no room to put any of my pond plants and I was thinking of growing them in a tank and using a metal halide lamp. Has anyone ever used these types of lamps?  ::)

Pond Chat / Re: Too many lily pads on top of pond?
« on: August 05, 2009, 11:26:31 PM »
As I asked in another thread... what does lily pad coverage on the water's surface have to do with oxygen in the water?  Don't plants HELP put oxygen IN to the water?

I was told that plants help put oxygen during the day but they take it away at night.  :(
