Late posting here but I have been praying. As Sean said, your recovery will be swift. It's a good thing when two pacemakers meet and sparks fly. Now go dance and celebrate life knowing you are well-loved o(:-)

Pond Chat / Re: best place to buy / get water plants?
« on: May 21, 2011, 01:54:16 PM »
Hello, zoeybean. I asked the same question once upon a time. No pond suppliers in my neck 'o the woods. :( And mind you, I only order online out of sheer desperation and after much research. Anyhoo, I was referred to dragonflyaquatics.com. I've ordered from them the past couples years and never been disappointed. In fact, received my latest order just yesterday & the plants arrived in excellent condition as usual.  My order shipped the day I placed it (early a.m.) and arrived 2 days later.

Also, after I placed my order, I realized I had forgotten one small item. I e-mailed to ask if it could be added to my order. Got a response the same day. Impressive in and of itself.  It wasn't possible to add to my order BUT they shipped the item anyway, at no additional charge, as a courtesy. Doesn't get any better than that!

Note to Jerry: I'm a consummate lurker & unfortunately not up to date on your guidelines.    If I'm out of line in sharing a website, just hit *delete* & no explanation necessary. Gorgeous pond pics, btw! :2thumbs:

bless ya beyond measure,

Except that there's nowhere to swerve as the potholes span all lanes... {:-P;;

Liability aside, it's an innovative advertising concept. In any event, I'd definitely hire the mind behind the concept even if I had to veto a proposal or two for obvious reasons. Creativity should be on the protected species list in this day & age. Seems it's a rapidly vanishing rarity.

« on: July 18, 2010, 08:21:31 AM »
Ah, knew you were going to say that. There's a movie rental place just a few blocks from me which I drive by every day. They have a decent selection of good foreign films but they are going out of business. Strange as their parking lot is always packed.  Oh well...time to find a new source.

Talk about a mosquito magnet...if there's one mosquito in a room full of 50 people. it will  bite me 50 times and never even nibble on the others.

I have the same aversion to sprays...chemicals in general actually. For a while I used Off Botanicals Lotion, a supposed 'plant based'  concoction. Not sure how *truly* safe it was but the stuff was a miracle so I used it. ZERO bites. But alas, OFF stopped making it >:(

I've tried every home remedy known to mankind and nothing works for me. Absolutely.Nothing.  And that includes Vitamin B. Currently I am using Cutter Skinsations *Ultra Light* Not the best but I end up with half a dozen bites after a couple hrs at the pond instead of dozens. Yes, it's a spray which I detest (I hold my breath, spray myself and RUN, lol) The active ingredient is Picaridin. NOTE: only the Cutter *ultra light* formula uses picaridin...the regular stuff has Deet as an active ingredient.

Deet - besides being harmful -is useless. Yes, I confess I  tried it ONCE in a forced situation where I was being eaten alive. Mind you, the mosquito is the state bird here in Georgia. Might as well have sprayed myself with water and woulda been much safer. Never again.

If any of you other mosquito magnets find something that actually works, I'd LOVE to hear it.  If I told you how many hours I've spent online researching this subject you'd think I was obsessed. Ok...so maybe I am. But I 'd just like to sit by my puddle after dark and not worry about being carried off by the state bird!!

Obsessive, Annette? I think not 8)

Too, funny....almost posted this very question yesterday.

I have three goldies all named by g-son. First there's Shamu, so named because he actually outgrew the aquarium (didn't think that was possible) He was so large he could have literally swallowed his tankmates whole. Personally, I suspect he overheard us making plans to add on to our little puddle and decided he liked the idea of a custom built home.

He's a ham & shows off when I get the camera out. Here's a cloudy pic taken at dusk which shows his true colors

The other two are named Hablar and Faster (to speak faster? g-son was in the middle of a Spanish lesson when he named them, lol) Here's a cloudy pic of Hablar taken that same day at dusk..

If you look closely, you can see Faster in the upper left corner. She's camera shy. I currently have 4 unnamed babies. Three are still dark but one resembles Faster. If its colors develop like I think (hope) they will, she will be called Blue...or Azul if g-son wins. He's the boss when it somes to naming the fishies.

He didn't eat or poop either but never could train him to stop
spitting in the pond :whip:

tear up the floor and fix the leak

Plumbing contractor here, fwiw. Agreeing w/Esther's Pete. My house is built on a slab and that is precisely what I would do. A good plumber should be able to locate the leak...meaning, at least isolate the general vicinity. Still....less expensive than a total re-pipe nine times out of ten.

Chit Chat / Re: What's the temp in your area?

99 here. Not sure what the heat index is today but humidity is such that it's like breathing water. Fifteen minutes at the pond leaves me looking like I just stepped out of the shower....minus the refreshment
