Pond Chat / Re: String algea soloutions I need one!

Jerry

I have had very good results using Hydrogen Peroxide . It is available in any drug store and is cheap.
I use about half a quart for my 1500 gallon pond and it take 2 or 3  treatments about a week apart to kill off the String algae.
Just mix it with a gallon or so of water and add it at your falls.  It's a good idea to pull out what string algae you can before treating it so it doesn't just rot in your pond. I've not had any problems with my plants or my goldfish using it. Good luck!

Pond Chat / Re: Where Do You Buy Your Pond Tabs?
« on: June 27, 2012, 06:20:04 PM »
I have had a problem with RIMM Tabs falling apart but this is the 3rd year I've used the Aquatic Tabs and have had no problem with them breaking up.Buy the 25 tab or 100 tab packages and don't open them untill needed.

I don't pull the plants anymore to fertilize them. I put a 2 x12 plank across the pond and crawl out on the plank to fetirlize all the plants in the pond. I just push my finger deep in the soil and then push a tab into the hole.

The one problem with Osmocote is when the water get hot Osmocote releases all at once instead of time releasing. I can't remember exactly what tempture that happen at though.

Just what I've found works for me.

Jerry the pump will probably run just fine untiil you put it in water again and the inside of the pump gets moisture into it again This may even take a while to happen .

Pond Chat / Re: Pump died thei morning!
« on: January 16, 2012, 08:28:31 AM »
My best guess is the seals in your pump have gone bad and allowing some moisture into the pump. This is the usual cause for the GFCI to be tripping and also the reason it is wise to have the pump on a GFCI protected outlet.
I'm betting if you allowed the pump to dry out and plugged it back in it would work but then would start tripping the GFCI as soon as the pump was put back in water.

Chit Chat / Re: 'Nother Electrical Qu - new plug for an old space heater
« on: December 07, 2011, 10:13:24 AM »
Waterbug thats exactly my point . It shouldn't be bonded to the appliance body  and if it isn't that heater element and motor know no polarity and so it won't make amy difference as long as the netural isn't bonded to the appliance. All older Ranges and some old appliances have the netural bonded to ground .

If you have an ohm meter or continuity tester see if one of the 2 wires show continuity to the heater body. If one side does connect it to the silver terminal. If no continuity and shouldn't matter what the polarity is.
