excellent info for sure, thank you so much for all that  information.  I had never even heard of bromating.  I feel very lucky to get such an expert on turtles, but here you were.  I am going to try to get him out of the pond for winter, but in case we can't catch him, we will give him the natural way and hope for the best.  Meanwhile, I have all summer to enjoy him, then worry all winter.
dperry, and Jerry, thank you so much

Thanks dperry and Jerry, yes I do have rivers near, also a big pond real close, next door property to mine.  I figured he came from that one.  Now, one more real dumb question, how do they winter over in the pond, no mud bottom and it freeze's over.  It is deep enough about 3 foot at one end.  Thanks so much for your reply.

We have a new little red ear slider about the size of a 50 cent piece living in our pond now.  He is doing great so far, he has a fin from a decorator Koi that fell over and fin sticking out of water to climb up and bask on.  I have to leave that Koi spitter under water now with only his fin sticking out.    When we feed the fish, he comes swimming right over and gets his dinner. So Cute.  Now, what do I or the turtle have to do by winter, we are in Missouri and get cold and Ice.  He can't stay on pond.  Pond is pretty big and I am pretty old and not able to get in it LOL.
Does any one have any ideas.?  I don't know how he got in it, but don't think he can climb out, too steep on sides.

That is a pretty one, I love the last two shots, one with the bee and one side view, very pretty.  I also have been ignoring the weeds.  My waterfall area got taken over with them and they are all mixed in with the huge grasses so we just ignored them.  Congrats on the pretty lotus

Yes, just planted it this spring, as soon as I thought warm enough to put out.  I am wondering how in the world I will over winter it now.  May have to pull it into family room, hope its not too smelly.

What a great story, I used to buy goldfish from Ozark Fisheries, about 5 thousand a week, when I had my pet shop.  Had  no idea of the background, very interesting.  They would pack 1000 feeder goldfish in one box and they would arrive fine.  Those boxes were great for moving, everyone used to use the old goldfish boxes to pack in.   They were clean boxes, the fish were inside heavy plastic bags.   Thanks for the background.

Thanks Katfish,  it is in a container, not going into pond.  I didn't smell anything either, but got worried about it, thinking that was stunting the growth.  We havn't had warm weather until last few days, so that may be the biggest problem.

Pond Chat / Composted Manure vs Compost & cow manure

I used the compost and cow manure before I saw all the discussion on this subject.  My question is should I try to gently re-pot the lotus in new composted Manure.  Two of the sprouts have made leaves about 3 to 4 inches on thin stems, but are arial.  Now it is producing small 1 inch leaves that just float.  I have had some stems turn brown and die off in the beginning..  What would you do......
Tink, these are the lotus from you, I don't want to kill them.

Thanks for any advice, Celia

Ester, Lol, that sounds just like me.  Now why is this thing beeping and what was I going to do.    So sorry RWinn for the loss of fish, so correct, we have all done it some time or other, I watered the lower part of my lawn real well already last year with reverse syphon, spelling wrong, but you get the drift.  Disconnected part of hose, left other part hanging in pond.

Sorry to hear about raccoon visits, but I just had to laugh at this post.  I had an immediate vision of hundreds of ads being placed for little boys to come de-raccoon ponds.  I hadn't been feeling well, and this made me laugh.    No no Celia not funny.   {nono}

Gorgeous how delicately the center looks like watercolors were used to paint the yellow up so far on the inner petals and the stamens have definite
little lilac tips on each one.  Beautiful Lily and framing

Interesting, I had a plant/weed just like it come up on its own.  I said it had to be weed because wasn't planted, but DH said plant.,  we also just let ours grow.
