Definitely a red shouldered hawk..... I have a resident one who is a daily visitor to the big pond area, usually after the frogs.

Born in Long Beach California and moved to Michigan when I was 8, that was where I learned to love the outdoors. Joined the Navy and saw the world. Mother & Father moved to Florida. When it came time to retire well Florida was where my Mom was (dad passed in 97) so we left San Diego and moved to Tallahassee. Where I found a house with a big pond!

Mine has been throwing beautiful blue blooms today one opened up and it was a light pink. Is n. Avalanche supposed to do that? Almost looks like a pastel version of my n. Charlies pride

I see it just fine... Good Job!, Annette, I don't see one either, am I missing it??

Karen, I will assume your flag is Illinois, so put this: http://3dflags.com/art/comps/usail01/3dflags_usail01-0001a.gif between two image tags and you will get this

Home depot sells a moldable epoxy for just such an occasion. you have to knead it and then press it into the crack and allow it to harden. After that I would do what water sprite said above cut out a piece of innertube our use a piece of liner with some black silicone to seal it all away. Let that all set for 24 hours and refill you should be fine after that.

Pond Chat / Re: A day late and a dollar short!

Well I have 1 Fairly large Bass (4-5 pounds)and several smaller bass a few dozen Bream (sunfish) and  quite a few catfish (varying in range from 1 pound to 10) The bass make short work of the smaller koi so they have to be big enough to keep the bass from being even tempted to try.

I think she just wants to give her husbands stuff to someone who is as passionate about ponding as he was.

« on: September 21, 2008, 09:14:48 AM »
I could not believe my luck! As many of you know I have a fairly large pond out beck and I have always wanted to put some Koi in there. The only problem is that the Koi would have to be fairly large because of the gamefish that are in there. Just last week I learned that there was a Doctor at work who had 30 Koi in the 20-24 inch long range. Her husband died suddenly about a year ago and she was left tending to his water garden. It became too much for her and she wanted to GIVE AWAY these Koi to anyone who would have them. They were gorgeous and well taken care of. By the time I heard that she wanted to give them up and RAN RIGHT DOWN THERE I learned that she had given them to the Koi club so they could adopt them out that previous weekend. I was devastated, she would have given them all to me because she has seen how I keep my pond.......  :'( :'( :'(   >:(-
On the up side she has the pumps and the biofilters and UV lights that she told me she would trade for some water plants. She said she would just give them to me. I offered to help her with her water garden but she said she has two and is keeping the smallest one (one is a huge above ground and the other is a converted pool) and diisassembling the other. As she is out of town this weekend I will be talking to her next weekend.  Man had I only learned of the info a week earlier!

Pond Chat / Re: Well My Pond is really trying!
« on: September 14, 2008, 01:48:04 PM »
Well considering that my dock was buried under all that water and the fish were everywhere I would say she is recovering  okay. The bass stayed in the pond while the catfish ventures out. I found fish the next day in small puddles  so I netted them up and put them back. I know I lost quite a few fish but enough  still exist to keep it looking good. I think I posted this picture once before but just for contrast...  I had a ton of herons and egrets in my pond (lake) now I have water lettuce where there wasn't any before some of it is even  out in the grass~!

It is clearing up and the tropicals are blooming  @O@ See there is life after that much water....  I feel for all my brothers and sisters currently waiting to see what Ike did to their ponds and their homes. Saying a prayer for you. Just happy to see the plants are as resilient as ever!

This one has become the hardest to chart by far, you can see how frustrated it has most of them. Looks like Texas is about to get it. Only one model has it going into Mexico. Sounds like Brownsville /corpus christie area Still not sure though

Do what you know to be the right thing to do. Your not going to be fired for doing the right thing. If upper management takes exception let them give voice to it to your direct supervisor, the more people that hear it the better off you are. and the more attention he gets for telling you to let it slide. I would do what covers my 6 first.

Dang well they are my favorite lure, don't know why Storm stopped making them. I do well at Bass fishing, Pike fishing, Muskies, walleye with this lure... Bass mostly now that I live in Florida but still I love it. Thanks Andy

I talked to my BIL who is a Manager at Vons  It would not be difficult, not as difficult as some may make it out to be. I think it is big of you to trust him so. I hope it turns out right.

If he has the MO back All he has to do is take it back to the post office or bank he purchased it from and he could get his money back. Sounds like he wants to send it to you and have you cash it and then send him the cash...... Hmmm for someone who was put out with you before he now sounds awfully trusting. Sounds  a little sketchy to me. Did he say why he couldn't just redeem it himself?

Thanks for the good thoughts  O0 looks like the bridge and Dock got messed up somehow and some of the footing by the bridge washed out  This is going to be a chore. Maybe I am better off just filling in th hole and be done with it. I am sick to the very core of my soul over this. I pumped it down  to drain off the excess and what did I get for it? MORE rain this morning.... Ugh. Don't get me wrong I am VERY grateful for not having a flooded house or some other major damage to my house as others have here. God has been kind where that is concerned.  now that I think about it maybe he is telling me I just need a BIGGER pond   LOL

Well we are finally back to an even keel. I would say normal but with all this rain that will take me awhile to get back to. I can tell I lost a ton of fish. Today I was walking the yard and I found ANOTHER 4 Bream as well as several small fry from this years hatch. I also netted up about 2 dozen mosquito fish. ( anyone got any Killifish they want to send me?) My water is very tanic and DIRTY. I have been using my pool net to clean up the floating debris. My neighbors are driving by and shaking their heads wondering why I am even bothering. That was the single worst storm we have ever had  in the last 6 years I have lived here. It will take a few days to clear up well enough to know that real damage was done. Here are a couple of pictures just before it got real bad, Notice you cannot even see the pond, the dock etc.

Well my cable is still out, so no wireless or internet access so still using the Cell to get internet access, little slow. I spent the last 5 hours rounding up fish. 17 catfish and 2 bream They were all out in the yard swimming about. If I lost my bass as well I am going to be upset. The water just started draining away and was real low when it started to rain again..... Ugh!

Scott glad to hear your doing well. This storm is dumping tons of water If your  in it's path stand by.

More later, Andy

Wow Scott I feel your pain. We lost power 3 times in the last 16 hours  and for me  thats bad. I have obstructive sleep apnea and without my CPAP sleeping becomes a chore. When I looked out at my pond this morning all the flooding  is taking it's toll. This tropical storm is dropping an average of 6 inches of rain PER HOUR at times. Flash flood warnings are out..... Speaking of which.... my pond is so flooded that the catfish are out in the grass. My dog was herding them back into the pond and chasing off the egrets looking for the easy meal. My Pond used to look like the LAST picture now it is like the last two and it continues to pour outside!

I hope this posts at the rate I keep losing power...

Not all, the guppies, Mosquito eaters...  and smaller fish stay on the surface and in the shallows If the pond level raises too high they are out in the yard. I should have put in a silt fence around the edge, that would have let the water out and left the fish in.... Rain starting to come down now, not hard yet but consistent. Andy

And goodbye pond if we get as much rain as they are predicting,  Up to 8 inches... Which I think is crazy But that much water is going to be a major problem for me. It may push a little south which may be my saving grace but we will see.
I hope Craig is fine and he did not get flooded out, they are getting hit now. UGH

Well the 'little chief'  and mama are doing fine. Everyone is healthy that we know of. So far so good praise God!  My Daughter Lauren is still at the hospital, they  keep you longer after a 'C' section I guess. She says she is feeling fine. We only have one picture (remember she is 1800 miles away) so we get what they send. Lauren sent this picture off her camera phone. Thought I would share!!
