Chit Chat / Re: A mans trip to Walmart.

Here's another REALLY funny "Man's Trip to Walmart"  lol

Shopping at Walmart

Mr. and Mrs. Fenton are retired, and Mrs. Fenton insists her husband
go with her to Wal-Mart. He gets so bored with all the shopping trips.
He prefers to get in and get out, but Mrs. Fenton loves to browse.

One day Mrs. Fenton gets this letter from Wal-Mart:

Dear Mrs. Fenton,
Over the past six months, your husband has been causing quite a commotion in our store. We cannot tolerate this behavior and may ban both of you from our stores. We have documented all incidents on our video surveillance equipment. All complaints against Mr. Fenton are listed below.

Things Mr. Bill Fenton has done while his spouse was shopping in Wal-Mart:

1. June 15: Took 24 boxes of condoms and randomly put them in people's carts when they weren't looking.

2. July 2: Set all the alarm clocks in House wares to go off at 5-minute intervals.

3. July 7: Made a trail of tomato juice on the floor leading to the ladies rest rooms.

4. July 19: Walked up to an employee and told her in an official tone, 'Code 3' in house wares..... and watched what happened.

5. August 4: Went to the Service Desk and asked to put a bag of M&M's on layaway.

6. September 14: Moved a 'CAUTION - WET FLOOR' sign to a carpeted area.

7. September 15: Set up a tent in the camping department and told other shoppers he'd invite them in if they'll bring pillows from the bedding department.

8. September 23: When a clerk asks if they can help him, he begins to cry and asks, 'Why can't you people just leave me alone?'

9. October 4: Looked right into the security camera; used it as a mirror, and picked his nose.

10. November 10: While handling guns in the hunting department, asked the clerk if he knows where the antidepressants are.

11. December 3: Darted around the store suspiciously loudly humming the "Mission Impossible" theme.

12. December 6: In the auto department, he practiced his "Madonna look" using different size funnels.

13. December 18: Hid in a clothing rack and when people browse through, yelled "PICK ME!" "PICK ME!"

14. December 21: When an announcement came over the loud speaker, he assumes the fetal position and screams "NO! NO! It's those voices again!!!!"

And last, but not least ..
15. December 23: Went into a fitting room, shut the door, waited awhile, then yelled very loudly, "There is no toilet paper in here!"

Pond Chat / Re: What Do You Think of Butterfly Koi?
« on: July 28, 2007, 12:08:09 PM »
I have one dark Gray/black butterfly koi. It's OK, but not my favorite. I don't have anything against them, I just prefer the standard koi personally.

Wow, that poor fella's been a naughty boy! They are actually closely related to the beaver and are quite adorable. Being herbivorous, he obviously can't stay, but hopefully you can trap and relocate him.

I had to post a couple pics of my lily ponds.  :) I've come to accept that I live in Michigan and my growing season will not allow my pools to mature the way I'd like, but I have been having great fun none the less. Had to say thanks again for your help and input.

Pond Chat / Re: why won't my hyacinths bloom?
« on: July 27, 2007, 04:22:49 AM »
Hmm, very interesting. I wondered why mine were not blooming either. Mine are not confined, but still continue to grow larger and taller, but not spread out (in full sun, btw). My water lettuce, however, grows out of control. What gives?

Pond Chat / First Black Prince Bloom
« on: July 25, 2007, 02:12:40 PM »
It opened halfway on Sunday morning, then closed up tight a few hours later. Monday and Tuesday I kept checking on it, but nothing- still closed tight. I thought for sure I'd been duped on my first tropical day bloom, but when I arrived home from work today there it was, standing proud!!!

Thank's Kat! (And timgod, for the perfect growing instructions!)   :D

Pond Chat / Re: FLORIDA SUNSET JOEY SENT ME!!
« on: July 23, 2007, 04:11:32 AM »
Kathy, I'm in zone 5 also. Some of the trops I got this year took off and are doing great, and a few others are just now shooting up nice pads. The ones that are doing the best are a red flare from Bonnie (bunny56lbc), and a blue from kat (either a black prince or blue beauty- lost tag) that has one bloom now and four more buds pushing up. My hardies were a unknown/unnamed box special from kat that have tons of great pads but no buds yet. Some of the trops had buds that rotted off, like you mentioned, others bloomed. Go figure. Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it- they were all potted the same (per timgod's instructions). I'm excited because we are for casted temps in high eighties for the next 10 days, so I'm hoping the trops will take off!!

Is the Florida sunset a trop or hardy? It is beautiful!! BTW, What is a lilypon??

Ed, your weather there sounds WONDERFUL! I'm jealous!!  :D

« on: July 22, 2007, 04:31:53 AM »
Yikes.
I hope he moves on. I'm a firm believer in relocating pests, not killing them (I'm not so arrogant as to believe this world was created solely for my species). Except of course aphids...  lol
But it's kinda hard to relocate a skunk without creating a terrible, lingering odor.

Pond Chat / Re: A Lesson Learned TODAY.....
« on: July 22, 2007, 04:15:01 AM »
Oh my.  :'(

I did this to my pepper plants earlier this spring after I read about some concoction of water, dish soap and a tiny bit of vegetable oil (to control aphids). Unfortunately I must have missed the part about mild dish soap, and used Dawn with bleach alternative. BAD idea. All the leaves turned brown and eventually fell off. Even two months later now, only one has slightly recovered. I'll try to remember to get you a pic of the end result if I remember today.

I'll cross my fingers for you that your end result with lotus is better than mine with the peppers.  :-\

Pond Chat / Re: What's wrong with my lotus
« on: July 22, 2007, 04:03:32 AM »
I'm no more than a green horn  ;D and I've never even had the pleasure of growing a lotus yet, but that doesn't look like insect damage to me. BUT, I have over fertilized and burnt a few plants in my time, and the end result kinda looked like that.

Pond Chat / Re: Need input/advice- bulkheads filters??

I think I'm starting to get the picture.  ?)(?
Great ideas, Thank you! I am interested in bringing in both fish and my tropical lily's (I plan to move my hardies to the bottom of my larger outdoor pre-formed). My basement is heated, but still can get chilly (60ish?), and I don't know if I want to bear the expense of heating it further. I really just want to be sure my tropicals survive the winter- not really trying "grow" them in the basement, per say. As for the fish, I was going to move the bio-box and 600 gph pump from the pre-formed pond to a 300 gallon indoor tub. I had my eye on that same rubbermaid stock tank at the local Tractor Supply Company, where it sells for about $198.00. http://www.mytscstore.com/detail.asp?pcID=8&paID=1039&sonID=214&page=1&productID=24965&zz=48439
This auction could save me $50.00, plus the two 100 gallon tubs. Only thing is, I'd have to drive over an hour to pick those up, but TSC is right down the road. My concern is the drilled holes in the 100 gal tubs. I'm rather "mechanically challenged" and not sure if I could figure out how to rig up fittings and such... I am much better at dropping in "external devices".  {:-P;;
SOOO, with all that said, my dilemma is whether or not it's worth the time and gas for the auction if I can't figure out what to do with the 100 gallon tubs..
If all else fails, would it be possible to seal the holes in the 100 gallon tubs so they were water tight?
Whew, that was a mouthful...

Blackberries and wild black raspberries are two different things. They look a little alike but the raspberries are a cap type shape whereas the blackberries aren't. The stem of a raspberry pulls OUT of the fruit. The blackberry stem breaks away at the fruits lower surface.  Blackberries are larger than raspberries also, maybe almost twice the size. Maybe they're cousins.

Thanks for the clarification! Then it is black raspberries we had soooo many of this year.  The kids would come in with purple fingers and faces every time they went outside.  ;D

So sorry..  :-\

We had a hailstorm last week that dropped quite a bit of marble sized hail, but it only lasted a quick minute and didn't do much damage, thankfully. I wish you had been so lucky.

I do also, but I didn't get a garden in this year.  :'( My garden area had standing water until about a month ago, and I couldn't get it turned over. It's usually very wet at the beginning of the season, but never as bad as this year. Ah well, there's always next year.

I learned canning from my grandma and my mother- it's almost second nature.  ;) usually I do stewed tomatoes, okra, hot peppers, and peaches. I prefer to blanch and freeze the corn and beans (I prefer my veggies CRISP). I occasionally do jams and jellies too. (Esther- it was an excellent year for wild blackberries (black raspberries?), wasn't it?! I had millions this year.)

Here's my FAVORITE canning site! http://www.paulnoll.com/Oregon/Canning/index.html I used this site so much last year, I felt like Paul and Bernice were my grandparents...  ;D

My job now makes me CRAZY sometimes, but I certainly don't hate it. I've been in health care for 18 years, and I wouldn't know what else to do. I'm lost when not at work during the day! I started at the bottom and worked my way up over the years; from wiping behinds to Area Supervisor, and now I am up for promotion again to Program Coordinator for the whole county. The Executive Director called me yesterday for an appointment to meet with her to go over the proposal.

I'm thinking plants won't do so well in the basement. Then again, what about grow lights... Hmmmmmm.

I am thinking of bidding on these to over-winter the fish that are in my small ponds (would put in basement):

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=020&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=300132128405&rd=1&rd=1

But, I have no idea what kind of bulkheads and filters/pumps that the 100 gallon tubs would need. I emailed the seller and all he sent back was they needed 2" bulkheads for the holes. Does anyone know what items I would need, and where I would find them at??
