If you notice the slick only after the tree was cut, the chainsaw would be my guess.  Oil from the chain probably transferred to all the rubbish from the cutting and some probably got into your pond.  I've made that mistake myself.

That color is amazing.  I got some early this year and now I can't wait for them to bloom.

That's a nice plant.  I don't know how that plant behaves in colder weather, but with our year round warm weather, that plant turned into an invasive weed.  It started choking out my waterlilies, so I ended up tossing them all out.

Glad to see the King of the Blues bloomed for you.  It's still one of my favorites.

Kat,

Thanks for the reference, this is my first time selling on the forum.  I normally just sell them to the local pet store.

I use Corian, the countertop material.  I attach them to the pvc frames with stainless steel screws and they last longer than the pvc.  My friend has a countertop business so I get the scrap pieces for free.  If you have a countertop/cabinet shop in your area, check with them.  Most of them just toss it after a while or you might be able to get a good price.

It's basically hard dense plastic, so any kind of saw with a fine tooth blade can cut it.

I use PVC pipes to make a frame and then attach a piece of Corian to the top.  Looks like a mini table.

Plastic milk carton crates works too.  They're ighter and easier to move then cinderblocks and give the smaller fish a place to hide.

Joyce, thanks for that info.

It's definitely a popular plant in the aquarium trade, because of their variegated red and/or green leaves.  I know a lot of people that keep trimming back the surface leaves to keep it small.  So I was surprised when I saw the bloom the other night.

I'm not big on aquarium plants, which is why i potted it and placed it in an outdoor tub.  Plus is was free from the store owner.

Do you know if it's supposed to be the same plant as the nightblooming waterlily Nymphaea lotus or Nymphaea rubra?

Pond Chat / Nymphaea zenkeri

Hi all, I've been a member here for a couple of years and have enjoyed everyone's posts and pictures.  I have a question about one of my plants and figured this would be the perfect opportunity for my first posting.

I got this plant as Nymphaea zenkeri "Red Tiger Lotus", and forgot about it until I just noticed a nightblooming white flower appear.  I found a lot of conflicting articles on the web, but the consensus seems to be that it's a synonym for N. lotus and rubra.

Can anyone confirm this or shed a little more light on the subject?

Would someone also be willing to give me a crash course in posting a picture?  I can't quite figure it out.

Thanks
Scott
